Bill Murray said I was weird: winterwhile: End_Of_Line:

Sorry there Skippy, the Matrix is not going to reboot this time. Man up and clean up the problem that has been handed to us or GTFO. I could care less either way.

we are manning up, cleaning house of Obama this fall.

Then you should "man up" and accept the bet I've proposed to you. If Obama loses the presidency, I'll sponsor you for TotalFark for the entirety of Romney's tenure as POTUS. If Obama wins, you leave. No coming back, no alts, no other handles, no inane posts. Nothing. A mod permabans an IPbans you. And the best part? Forever.

So will you man up, or will you continue to be a coward? Just say the word and I'll email the mods and Drew himself to keep it authenticated.

It is definitely a burden and a hardship for people with lesser means. It is also crazy. Take someone that goes to school for social work. It is a necessary job and it is also a low paying sector. They might not make much more than if they worked at a factory but it is a vital service and generally takes a Master's Degree. We are pricing people out of a LOT of important jobs.

Totally. Just about anyone in education needs at least an MA. And you if you want a good job, you need a PhD.

Maybe we need something like the education army. Go to school, then you get to teach for a few years, like being in the service, then your school is all paid up.

The Dems did set up the PSLF for people who work a few years in certain public service positions in 2007. It needs to be expanded though.

/Bush signed it into law so that is one good thing he did.

Sweet. I think this program should be greatly expanded.

Obama did expand it with executive order. Link I think he does plan on providing relief to those with student loans.

What do you think will happen to tuition if government absolves student loan debt.....hello 500k liberal arts degrees.

As long as we use the money to occupy sandy countries and bail out billionaires and banks.

Anything else is soshulizm

Okay say we didn't spend all that money on the wars and we put that towards grants and student loans....what do you think would happen to the price of tuition?

I don't think you understand the problem but need something to point the finger at...so you got that going for you...which is nice.

This goes along with my idea of a drafted congress.

Instead of elected representatives we draft from the population. One step of the screening would be a fMRI screening where we question the people if they have been wanting the job.

You know how I know you didn't read the FARK article?

Akin said the government should be out of the student loan market altogether. "America has got the equivalent of the stage three cancer of socialism because the federal government is tampering in all kinds of stuff it has no business tampering in," he said.

Asked whether the candidates supported a constitutional amendment saying life begins at conception, Akin again staked out the strongest stance. "Yes, I would support a constitutional amendment," he said.

free money? does the grant level increase with COLA?
how do we slow inflation this inflation that outpaces even healthcare?

can we prohibit grants to colleges and universities whose cost increases that exceed COLA increases? we could have a 5 year rolling average, so if colleges exceed COLA in one year they can make up for it the next 4 years. and once their cost increase were back under or even with the long term inflation rate they could get their grants reinstated.

you might have to do me a solid for giving away free money though. maybe by phasing out the mortgage interest deduction over a couple of decades.

ManateeGag: Grand_Moff_Joseph: And his competition doesn't know what the Violence Against Women Act is because "I haven't been elected yet".

MORONS.

there should be a rudimentary test of the laws on the land. if you cannot pass the test, you cannot run for a federal government office.

That kind of defeats the idea of the 'everyman' being able to get elected. I have an idea though... Have the elections one year earlier, and the candidates are required to undergo one year of schooling in the finer points of law, then if they don't pass, they don't proceed to serve their term. Same goes for repeat offenders multi-term politicians, they just get a higher level class each year. Sure, this would add to the cost of the whole thing, but it also might save money in the long run from poorly crafted laws that constantly get challenged and overturned, with lawsuits left and right.

Of course, I also think that to keep elections from simply being a case of voting in the Cult of Personality, we should vote for silhouettes, no gender, race, religion or smooth talking involved, find a way to list their history, their political stance, their views on key issues, and their campaign promises, none of this attack ad bullshiat, none of this pandering to the special interest groups, we know where they stand and what they vow to do, and they can't Mitt Romney in mid-stream. This would also save trillions of dollars of campaigning bullshiat and robo-calls.

Sure, neither of these would actually work as proposed, but I can't help but wonder if they could be a basic platform to build on?
