Arctic Phoenix: What did airport security in the US do prior to 9/11 with regards to kids?

/Genuinely curious
//Did they get searched?
///If so, why is it a big deal now all of a sudden?

They profiled to see if somebody was acting nervous. Kkids for the most part had to go through the metal detector like everyone else, no special treatment.

Gig103: FirstNationalBastard: Well, you got what you wanted, America.

Feeling safer yet?

Bin Laden won. It's been a decade and he died, but the PATRIOT Act and TSA live on and terrorize our national.

This is why some didn't want the boogy man killed. Its harder to justify this stuff now that he's gone.

2012-04-25 04:14:38 PM
Once these "things" are indoctrinated into the "next generation" ie: the current 18-30 year olds IT'S ALL OVER it's not coming back. THEY DON'T KNOW ANY BETTER and they have no idea what American life was like 'pre-Bush'so their attitude is not going to be one of the previous generations. They are going to pass along this "fear and acceptance of fear" as a "way of life" so there you go. Game, set, match. It's over Johnny. Been over for a long time. Everyone just needs to get over the "old idea of America" it's DEAD.

2012-04-25 04:14:49 PM

Pants_Optional: I'd love to see an airport cop (someone with actual arresting authority) handcuff a TSA agent and charge them with child molestation.

They're probably in on the whole thing together.

scottydoesntknow: SkinnyHead: Instead of searching disabled children who obviously pose no threat, why don't they focus on passengers who actually fit the profile of a terrorist?

Would you describe the profile of a terrorist and how to identify them?

That's actually the closest thing to a coherent thought I've seen from him in a while. I'm actually interested in what his criteria for being a terrorist is.

2012-04-25 04:17:31 PM
Someone is trying too hard....

2012-04-25 04:18:04 PM

SkinnyHead: I don't know. I'd leave that up to professional law enforcement agencies to develop reliable profiles. It just think it's just absurd to pretend that a disabled girl on crutches poses the same risk as someone who fits a terrorist profile.

Sure you "know". Otherwise you wouldn't find it absurd to screen a disabled girl on crutches.

Fark U: //do MF'ers even bother to learn history anymore? There is no "national identity" anymore, all because of a couple planes and buildings. We lost our G.D. minds, really. Should have SPOKEN UP EARLIER! We're screwed, forget about "freedom" it's an old tagline like Wal-Mart's "Made in the USA!" propaganda from the 90's. buh bye!

Speaking up sooner wouldn't have done shiat. The government wants additional power and we have plenty of hayseeds that think that they haven't yet gone far enough. Everyone else gets drowned out by the rabble.

2012-04-25 04:18:10 PM
Yeah, this is pretty much what the flying public deserves for leading politicians to believe that safety at any price was a good idea.

I know it's not everybody, but it's probably most of them.

2012-04-25 04:18:25 PM
Well you see, when bin Laden was "determined to strike in the US", Bush thought it was more important to move brush around his fake ranch for a month.

2012-04-25 04:18:34 PM

scottydoesntknow: Of course they have to grope the girl with cerebral palsy. If they didn't Al Qaeda would find out and just recruit a bunch of seven-year-old terrorists with cerebral palsy to make it past the checkpoints.

Exactly.

And also something something they do it all the time.

Hershey Highway Patrol: I'm surprised I don't see articles about someone punching a TSA agent for overly frisking their kid.

ITG aside, plenty of cops and marshals ready to beat your ass, plus at least one judge out there who would agree that stripping and groping a child is acceptable in the name of safety, and the dad is a very evil person otherwise.

Fly in the morning... that's when the most senior (read: get to pick their shift) agents work.

Never have a problem with em.

\ Last pat-down I received told the guy that according to my religion, we were now married.
\\ Writing this from Guantanamo Bay PMITA

2012-04-25 04:19:00 PM
If someone's frisking a kid, it's because they like touching kids.

We know there's no rational explanation.

They had to empty their pockets like everyone else. Everybody went through. It's not like little kids have metal bridgework or a pacemaker, professor.

It's probably a one-way ticket to Gitmo nowadays. Oh, and thanks to recent legislation signed by our President, they can categorize you as a "terrorist" and detain you indefinitely without trial. The United States - A decent, if failed, experiment in democracy while it lasted.

I think they have a new bill that strips you of citizenship for resisting.

Yes, I see your point. One thing they can certainly do in setting up this terrorist profile is to identify certain types of people who are less likely to pose a threat. Disabled girls on crutches would be one of them.

2012-04-25 04:26:54 PM
I can't wait until the first TSA pat down I get. I'm going to specifically request the strip search. And point out which agent I'd like to do it as well. And then laugh when my boyfriend beats the crap out of the guy on the return trip.

Are you suggesting that he should have hired someone to move brush around his fake ranch? I think not! You sir, have no idea of the important of brush on a fake ranch. Good DAY!

The icing on the sh*t cake that is the TSA is the fact that it is staffed with people who would be unqualified to work at Starbucks/Carl's Junior/Taco Bell.

starlost: Her family reportedly requests that agents on hand take the time to introduce themselves to her.

sounds like the tsa and the family was doing a verbal pushing match and the tsa won. if the parents were nasty as hell i wouldn't have taken the time to introduce myself to the kid because the parents told me too. i'm in charge not the parents.and no i'm not with the tsa. i'm the passenger in back of these asshats.

Um, that's actually pretty standard for dealing with anyone on a professional level. Like normal adults. If someone says "my kid's disabled, at the very least say hi before patting her down so she doesn't flip out", your job is to shut up, quit whining, and introduce yourself.

Random screening is a perfect valid security measure. Random screening with McDonald's employees trying to screen a disabled person or child is just asking for problems. This isn't a normal job--why are we pretending they don't need extra training to avoid traumatizing people?

There are no good ones. Doing the work of the TSA means that they are bad ones, no matter how many puppies they adopt in their spare time.

You know who else adopted puppies in their spare time?

pudding7: I don't understand these "I missed my flight because of the TSA!" stories. Specifically how did the extra 3 minutes of an enhanced pat-down cause them to miss their flight?

Three minutes? Where do you get that??

Even Senators are detained for longer than that.

"Senator Paul: "I was detained on one of those clear cubicles where they detain you. I was very aggressively told not to leave the cubicle. In my mind, I felt like I was being detained, I did step out of the cubicle one time to talk to the TSA. I was very forcefully told I needed to reenter or face more serious repercussions."" -Link

Also interesting: "Senator Paul: "The other thing I learned today that several TSA officials told me off the record that the scanning machine sends a false positive signal that they can randomly patted down people. I was told that's why it was positive. And then they finally let me go back through the screener an hour and a half later and it was negative. So either the machine is not very good or they programming in random screening, and a couple told me off record, I probably was subjected to a random screening, but they are kind of tricking the public into thinking you set off a buzzer so we don't have a choice in doing this random pat down.""

Bush '04 oh see what had happened was... TERROR ALERT ORANGE! TERROR ALERT ORANGE!

and judging by the amount of Bush/Cheney and "Support the Troops!" and "Freedom isn't Free!" bumper stickers I see all day every day for the past ten years, I'd say there is a big amount of blame on "countrymen" in general.

Pert: I STILL aim to get to the airport 2 or 3 hours early

I always aim for 2 hours.....mostly because I flew one month after 9/11 and having to deal with the worst lines I've ever seen at Sea-Tac have made me totally anal about getting the airport with extra time just in case.

Not all kids can walk. And yes, a child CAN have a pacemaker. It isn't common, but it DOES happen occasionally. Some kids are disabled from the time they're small, too. What did they do with the kids that couldn't walk through the metal detector?

Exactly. Al Qaeda knows that we know that they are based in the Middle East. Because of this, they have changed their demographics to be primarily octogenarians and 7 year old girls with Cerebral Palsy. We can't afford to let even one of these deviants through our security. If we did, the resulting damage could be catastrophic.

It's all a con game, and YOUR attitude is why we are in this mess right now. Pacifist moron. Good little EGO MANIAC sheep, it's all about YOU and your TOUGH GUY bullshiat. "Uhmericuh"

I'll support frisking defective children as soon as it's demonstrable that defective children are terrorists. Until then the only terrorists I see are the TSA goons.

2012-04-25 04:34:39 PM
Oh GOOD! Yet another completely predictable TSA thread.

Your question for today: If we relaxed TSA regulations, and someone got a bomb on a plane, what would be the correspondence between those Farkers frothing and venting about "police state" now, and those who would screech and whimper about us being left unprotected then?

Hint: 1:1

2012-04-25 04:34:47 PM

The My Little Pony Killer: "Yes, I understand that TSA is in charge of national security and there's all these threats. [But] for her to be singled out, it's crazy."

No. You either understand why they're there and know exactly why your child is being "singled out" or you don't agree with it at all because you know that it is an abusive over-reach from a paranoid government. You don't get to allow them to point fingers elsewhere and not expect that those fingers would eventually point at you.

Man, you don't understand, it's just fine what they do as long as they do it to Julia.

Dina Frank? The poor girl had to go though all that on top of having cerebral palsy and being blind!

2012-04-25 04:36:16 PM
See, this is why I don't fly anymore. I gotta leave the state, I take a bus or train.

Of course now you have TSA's VIPR squads that are searching bus and railways and are even worse than the airport schmucks.

I reckon I'll have to start hiking to travel, but they'll probably set up scanners on the sidewalks and trails.

\I think we should fully privatize airports

Sadly it will take a Republican President to repeal TSA. If any Democrat does it, it will be a political blood bath.
