I can't believe they didn't cover it. What a shame.

This seems to be a fairly common occurrence in wealthy middle eastern countries. I was stationed in Kuwait briefly in 2001, and it was normal to see nice cars completely abandoned on the side of the road. It was easier for some folks to just buy a new car, rather than get the other one towed and fixed. Frackin' weird.

I also noticed that I never saw any old people. Everyone in Kuwait appears to be less than 50. Where do they go?? It's a mystery.

TheGreatGazoo: Wait, you can lease an Enzo? I thought to even be considered to own one you had to have multiple Ferraris and get the blessing of the company?

Yeah. That's what I thought, too.

No sh*t. I cringed seeing that idiot touching the sand covered paint.

What's the problem? I mean the hell you can't even touch these cars without ruining them? That's pretty lame, besides at this point I thought the consensus was it'd be repainted no matter what already.

GungFu: What the scientific term for people who think cars are sexy and would fark it if nobody was looking?

Yeah, you...you know the term, don't ya?

Dagroning?

You're not far off.

There's no bankruptcy in Dubai, if you owe money and can't pay it, you go to jail.

Ferrari may have been nice, but it's no Wagon Queen Family Truckster.

A desert with abandoned cars and no old people? Sounds like the setting for a dystopian novel.

Knows about destroying Ferraris...

It's Dubai. There are probably a few dealerships around there that act as proxies and flip Ferrari the bird as they resell them for 4 or 5 times what they paid.

ZAZ: Under local laws, any car left for more than six months becomes property of the state unless a clear title can be produced and there are no outstanding fines.

It's a leased car. The bank produces its proof of ownership, pays the fines, takes possession, and pursues the lessee to the ends of the earth for fines plus missed lease payments.

You assume there is a statutory framework for these types of situations like in the US. Dubai, and UAE generally, are better than most Arab states when it comes to rule of law but I'd hate to be in a position of trying to enforce a legal claim there.

TravisBickle62: Damn ... couldn't they protect their assets and park it indoors?

Doubt it, the dude who abandoned it was fleeing this and other fines, in Dubai they have debtors prisons.

I'm a car guy. Yet I don't feel bad about this car at all. Or for the ones idiots wreck. The car has no soul, its more electronics than car, and its really just something else for rich people to flaunt. Its not a proper car its an ornament, and it deserves no sympathy. I wouldn't own one even if I got it for free.

Nasty_McFilth: oh_please: GBB: The other 25% was lost with the first curry fart.

Damn that was funny.

Carlin did a bit way back about how your own farts smell OK, but the morning shiat after eating curry will absolutely peel paint.

Paint peeling shiats don't happen for me the morning after eating curry...it's more like an hour later and I'm cursing myself for making that damned curry chicken again.

/but it's just so delicious

what's curry got to do with it? the car's in dubai, not india.

that's like saying I'm going to canada for all the great tacos

GBB: That car depreciated 75% just for being delivered to that sandblasting envrionment.
The other 25% was lost with the first curry fart.

Why would there be curry farts in Dubai?

OK let us judge you based on your choices, car guy. What cars do you own? What are the cars you wished you owned?

They haven't made Enzo's for several years. They did have a list of people they sold them to, not just anyone could buy one new. Anyone that owns one now is free to do with it what they will. The FXX on the other hand, you never really own it.

I would! ...but i wouldn't have it properly maintained, that shiat's expensive.
so it would end up parked out back next to the Studebaker husk. .

Half of Dubai's population (unofficially) is Indian.

And when I say unofficially I mean, undocumented and basically slaves.

Hunh. I did not know that. Still, it seems unlikely that curry eating slaves would be leasing that car. I guess some folks will use any excuse to make a dumb racist joke.

Does this apply specifically to the Enzo? Ferraris in general? All supercars? Because I'll admit that the F40/F50/Enzo series never captured my imagination. Similar with the Bugatti Veyron; what an ugly car.

At least I'm not one of those.

Actually, that is an Arab car wash- see, if you don't have water for your ablutions, I understand the Koran allows you to use sand... Probably just a cultural carryover. ;)

I'd have to strongly disagree about the F40. It's a "pure" car. No nannies to save your azz if you get in over your head, enough power and stick to make sure that you will get over your head at least once a lap, and (according to the guy who owned it) good enough handling that you have a fighting chance at regaining control once you're out there in "Oh shiat!" territory.

Interior quality is race car like: Yes, it's carbon fiber, but it's the ugly, functional, "it's light and rigid, that's why we used it" kind, not the "we've put so much resin on this to make it shiny, any weight savings have been negated" variety seen in most supercars.

I've never ridden in one, but I've sat in it and had my butt handed to me by it at an open track day. It's a real driver's car.

/But of course you could spend a fraction of the money and buy a sports racer which would be even quicker.

sandi_fish: I can't believe they didn't cover it. What a shame.

Just consider how desert dust gets into everything, and everywhere... couple that with a cover that flaps around and grinds that fine sand over the painted high points and you have a worse situation than just leaving it bare. Also, with the interior, even covering the inside windshield and windows to keep it from fading will still allow it to bake - just as it would under a cover.

Those covers aren't much use in the extreme climate of the desert. The only thing that would be worth doing would have been to store it in a climate controlled garage.

I'm sure Earl Scheib could fix it all up on the cheap.
