Cute picture, but come on.

Unless by "wandered" you mean "orchestrated a carefully staged photo-op as part of a vast propaganda effort to bolster the president's badly sagging support in the 18-24 year old demographic," you are being pretty gullible, Subs.

I certainly didn't think of several highly inappropriate captions to that photo of a woman with her mouth hanging open standing beside POTUS...

Was there for my 21st BDay. The BDay shot was just awful. The Stink, as we called it in Boulder.

Then I proceeded to vomit copious amounts.

Yeah I dont think the Secret Service lets the president "wander" anywhere, without searhing the place top to bottom.

Ive seen that place on Diners, Drive ins & Dives. Looks like prety decent food for a college crowd

Yes, cause it's the youth vote Obama really needs to worry about. Romney woulda rolled up in there, did a kegstand, grope a biatch and do a spontaneous rendition of baby got back.

How can Obama compete with that type of charisma!?

It's calculated but probably not "staged" in the sense there was probably nothing prearranged with that particular bar. A lot less security is needed if nobody knows he's coming.

Maybe it has something to do with his stances on marijuana and gay marriage.

He still beats Romney in all polls among that age demographic, but the margin is thinner now.

I would imagine the "People's Republic of Bolder" would have problems with his crackdown on cannabis. Promising a hands off policy and yet delivering the smackdown on states such as Cali and CO has to be a major disappointment to the younger generation! I now even hear of Republicans (Gasp!) calling for legalization! It will probably take the states to bring the Feds kicking and screaming to end the War on Plants!

Yeah, he's full of shiat. I'm 23, and I can tell you that exactly no one my age likes Romney. They don't all support Obama necessarily, but kids tend to vote for the cool guy, and Obama just radiates COOL. Especially compared to Romney, who is possibly the least cool person in politics.

I wonder if his visit caused panic as it would have if he wandered in to Time Out in IV. You would have seen the vast majority of people suddenly put their beers on the ground at their feet. After all, if it wasn't in your hand, you weren't drinking underage.

groppet: Yeah I dont think the Secret Service lets the president "wander" anywhere, without searhing the place top to bottom.

You'd be surprised -- most of the security lies in the fact that these sorts of public appearances aren't planned. There's a list of place he might decide to visit while he's in any town, and the decision to go to one happens while they're rolling. Basically the president walks in and that's the first anyone (outside of a half-dozen people who made the decision a few minutes prior) knows about it. Sure, he has security around him when he goes in, but the surprise value of just showing up prevents any planned stuff. And the physical security on him prevents direct attacks while he is present. This kind of stuff is actually a lot safer for him than showing up at scheduled events.

I don't know about 18-24, but he has a 57% approval rating in the 18-29 demographic (compared to 48% across all demographics).

Sure they can. Nothing can be safer than a completely unplanned stop. It's not like an assassin is going to stake out the local bars on the off chance the president stops there. It's the scheduled visits and motorcades that give the bad guys a chance to plan and set up. I bet the Secret Service can do a sweep in a matter of hours if the President wakes up in Boulder and says "screw my afternoon photo-op, I want to tour Celestial Seasonings today with my kids."

2012-04-25 01:41:49 PM
I'm not a fan of the President at all, but if he "wandered" into my regular bar (even if it is a photo op) I would think that is cool enough to want to get a picture with him. I can't say I would kiss his ass, but I would be respectful.

If I was President I would do this all the time. I like to see the office treated as little like a king or someone else untouchable as much as possible.
