I don't think there's been any question about that for some time

For her part, Steelman said in a statement: "Of course I am for stopping violence against women." But she accused Senate Democrats of making the bill a "political football" and said she would would look at "an improved version" of the bill advanced by Republicans.

I don't know what it is, but I'm ag'in it 'til it's advanced by Republicans!

This is what they called rugged individualism.

Also, apparently something is now a 'political football' because Republicans don't want to be asked their opinion on it rather than because it's a political loose-loose.

Senate Republicans are objecting to re-upping the 1994 law, which has already been extended several times, because of amendments that would extend protections for Native American women, gay victims, and others

This is clearly an outrage. Violence against gay people is why we invented Apple pie and freedom.

Does rugged individualism also include mountains of corporate welfare?

To be fair, they think that's the same thing.

Politicians are there to do what corporations tell them to do. They don't have to actually know anything.

yes how damning, someone who is running for office who does not know every one of the bazillion laws on the books...

just like the dems passing obamacare without reading the bill. we even?

So we're literally down to "I'm against it because Democrats are for it".

You farking scum are the reason the country is in the state is in. It's not "both sides", there is one group - the Republicans - that is doing their level best to undermine the basic principles that a democratic republic operates on. Anyone who can't see this has their head wedged firmly up their ass.

You do not need to know all the laws, even after you get elected. However, if you're against a law, you should be prepared to answer questions about it.

Missouri are reduced to running hapless trophy wives as Senate candidates in Missouri?

/Are they even trying?

2012-04-25 01:22:50 PM
See, this is part of the problem with our system. Not the only one, but one of the ones that really bugs me. It's great that the 'everyman' can run, I think it's important, but this lets us get people in who have no clue what they're doing, and laws get passed that are so ridiculously written that people can go to jail for petty stuff, or major criminals get to walk. It happens all of the time, and while there are a few reasons for it, including lobbyists buying the vote, and people voting for laws without bothering to read them, because the title sounded good, one of the biggest one is plain ignorance of the law.

I've said this on here before, but I think it bears repeating: All elected candidates should be elected a full year before their session really starts. That year should be spent in classes learning about law, how it works, what kind of mistakes are made by lawmakers, how to prevent these in the future, etc... If someone is elected for a second or third term, they still have to go, they just move up in their training. If someone can't pass the class, they don't get to make laws, it's that simple. This might also prevent those asshats who make a 30-40 year career out of being a lame duck, also. I'm lookin' at YOU , Whorin' Orrin!

Well, yeah. Just like any question is a "Gotcha Question" when they either don't have an answer or the answer they have is generally regarded as repugnant.

Being moderately attractive is all a Republican woman needs to impress GOP voters.

Almost across the board, attractive and big-titted women with political ambitions run on a Republican ticket.

It compliments their lifelong sense of entitlement and lack of intellectual motivation.

sounds like they are revising the law to buy more votes from illegal immigrants and other interest groups, presumably totally unfunded as well.

either way, i can see why they would not want to talk much about being opposed to changes in the law, because it can be spun so easily.

I usually define 'crazy eyes' as being able to see the entire Iris with a touch of white above and below (like the runaway bride chick), so I wouldn't say she has crazy eyes, but she's got that little Cruella Deville sneer in her uppper lip when she smiles that is just freaky.

Yes, yes, that's it. They're buying votes from people who can't vote.

What it actually does is ensure that an illegal immigrant who is the victim of domestic violence can stay in the country pending the outcome of the trial. But don't let your hackery get in the way of facts.

To be fair, I don't know if it's a lady vote issue as much as it's a Missouri Republicans issue. Several years ago, they put Brock Olivo in a U.S. House primary as a Republican because he was a star running back for Mizzou ten years ago. He was a nice guy and good looking but dumber than a box of rocks. Apparently, the state Republicans think good looks are all you need to become a politician.

She didn't 'not want to talk much about it', she didn't know WTF it was. Any halfwit can say "I know there are some contentious aspects of the latest proposal, blah blah blah"

Instead: He asks again, "You haven't really heard about it?" And she confirms, "No, not really."
