Profedius: 17 is good to go here so I don't need a seat over there and yes I would bang the hell out of her.

The nuns say no, but her ID says YES!

My high school you could only attend if you were a junior or senior, but I've known other folks who went to different schools that only your date had to be a Junior or Senior.

I have to give her props: Extremely creative and nicely done!

And still more original and interesting than Vivienne Westwood ever did.

I look forward to the eventual 'making a statement' condom wrapper and used pregnancy test prom dress.

16 is the age of consent in Minnesota according to a quick GIS.

Chris Hansen can get back to cheating on his wife. Thanks.

I wonder if her date had some some Ranch "dressing" to go with her Cool Ranch "Dorito".

Mishno: robodog: I found the story kind of sad, she won't be pursuing her passion (which she obviously has some talent for) because schooling would be too expensive.

With any luck, the story being on NPR might get her some scholarship money. She deserves it more than some basketball player.

Let's hope, the story had me thinking last night that I'd love to be stupid rich so that I could give out scholarships to people like her who are having their potential snuffed out for a lack of a bit of money.

I know it's the cynic in me, but I'm getting tired of people doing trivial things and expecting everyone to act like they've accomplished something significant.

Yes, you're red hair or cardboard dress makes you *such* an individual. You are one wicked free spirit.

I would most certainly want her as a dinner guest. She probably would make excellent conversation. Would I actually hit it? Maybe. She isn't bad looking.

It's an NPR slice-of-life segment, they do random Americana all the time, and recycling random things into prom dresses is a long-standing midwestern tradition. It's not intended to sound impressive, it's intended to mean "oh, by the way, remember that we're a US radio network, despite half our content being BBC".

If you think it's meant to sound impressive maybe you just had really boring classmates growing up.

Get used to it. It's only going to get worse. Every freaking morning "news" show now has daily features on "viral videos" and people being AWs. "ZOMG TEH KAT IS SINGING!!! LOL!!! Now here's Sam Champion with the weather."

I wish news shows would adopt major league sports broadcasters' rules. By not showing the idiots running onto the field they don't encourage more people to do it.

farking Virginia. Age of consent is still 18. Get with the times! Girls are hitting puberty at 11 now. Old enough to bleed, old enough to breed.

Honestly it says more about you than it does about her. She did something interesting for herself that the media picked up on. Youre whining about "HAVING" to hear about it. She doesnt care about you. The media doesnt care about you, and judging by your reaction.. youre jealous.

Theres alot of that these days. Its a mismanagement of intent, see YOU assume that because you saw something it was directed at you. People see facebook status updates and assume that it was directed at them because they're reading it. etc and so forth. Its a little self centered honestly. Do people do things for recognition and attention? HELL YEAH. Does that mean theyre shoving it down your throat or has ANYTHING to do with you. nop. If you dont like it and it doesnt affect you. Move on.

She's probably an adult trying to break out her fashion career and realized that a press release saying "20-something woman designs dress out of garbage" doesn't get picked up by many news outlets.

Perhaps you're right. It just seems to me that as a society, we're continually lowering the bar in terms of what we consider significant and laudable. People want to be known as amazing, unique, and talented individuals, but they're not willing to put in the work or struggle to actually achieve anything truly noteworthy; instead they're redefining "amazing" to mean whatever the mundane thing is that they've just done.

BurnShrike: She looks fairly cute, but I prefer my women not be covered in garbage.

The second picture (I assume the soda can tabs?) actually looks pretty good though. She must've worked hard on that. And I'm sure her prom date worked hard on her later that night.

I think the others are good, too, I doubt it's actually "garbage" as in the 'pulled it out of the trash and putiton' garbage, but I have to agree that the soda can tabs is amazing. I can't see the video in the image, but here's a blog that has all 3, and a closeup of the soda tabs in case it isn't shown in the video.
