Egoy3k: Civ 4 - oh awesome the enemy spearmen just defeated my advanced bombers....

Civ 5 addressed this by severely curtailing the random factor and better emphasizing strength difference between units. For example, in Civ 5, it's impossible for a single spearman to take out a tank with full hp. The random factor is still present, though, so a lucky spearman can still take out a tank with 1/10 or 2/10 hp, since all units will deal at least 1 damage to another unit regardless of difference, and a lucky strike can still add at least 1 more damage (the exception being if the 1 hp tank has enough strength to kill off the spearman completely; there are no Double KOs in Civ 5).

The expansion to Civ 5 coming out in a couple of months supposedly addresses this. While a unit will still deal at least one damage to another regardless of strength/tech difference, units will now have 100 hp (as opposed to 10), so now it would take at least 50 spearmen to down a tank.

Egoy3k: Oh I forgot one. Minecraft.

All right I just built an incredibly complex combination lock just for the fun of it, whats that hissing noise?

That'ssssssss a very nice ... thing... you've got there. It'd be a ssssssshame if anything were to... happen... to it... sssssssss...

Seriously, though, if you get blown up by a creeper you really don't have anyone but yourself to blame. It's not exactly difficult to mob-proof your constructions, building areas, etc. All you really need is enough torches along with a modicum of building material for walls/etc. Plus, if you've got at least 8 armor points creepers can't one-shot you (even at maximum damage) as long as you're at full health (and that's easy to maintain outside of combat nowadays with the current food system).

kronicfeld: Radiant Silvergun. An autistic Korean teenage virgin can't beat it.

Radiant Silvergun is actually not bad since it allows you to level up your weapons through multiple playthroughs. So basically if you play it enough you'll be able to beat it even if you suck at bullet hell games.

Treasure shooters aren't that bad in general. Ikaruga was a bit annoying, but nothing compares to Cave shooters. IMO. Every once in a while a Touhou shooter will "almost" reach Cave levels of insanity, but Treasure never goes to that extreme.

For those who mentioned it, there is a strategy to beating the first TMNT game.

-Just spend 1-2 hours getting all of your turtles 99 of the scroll weapon that only appears in the one option warehouse on level 3. It's the only means of actually beating the Technodrome

/beating that was maybe one of my finest moments in childhood video gaming
//Beating Darkwing Duck was nothing to sneeze at either.

If the point is rage inducing, I've got to say the most rage I've had recently was when I was talking with my little brother about the Deus Ex while playing it. I told him where I was at in the game (after about 9hrs of play) and he told me I was almost at the end. I was so pissed that I haven't touched the game since.

SpoilerAlert: Been playing Trials Evolution, and the extreme tracks usually end up with me hitting a barrier I can't get past, failing over and over while swearing loudly each time I barely miss, then maybe getting past it or rage quitting. The button to start the race all over again is right near the joystick, and I've hit it by accident twice now erasing all my progress.

Thank you! Was gonna post that game, just bought it last week on XBL. It's insanely fun, but the EXTREME!! tracks are damn near impossible I can't even get past the first checkpoint on Inferno 3 (the last stage). But damn if the game isn't awesome and challenging at the same time. The track creator and multiplayer are also great. I've gotten more enjoyment out of spending that $15 than a lot of the AAA titles running for $60.

I do that just to trick people into thinking they are nearly done with it. Reguadless of where they are. My friends or family would ask me where they are in a game (I usually beat the game quickly and know where they are) and I tell them false info for fun.

I've been considering buying this. Having never played the series before I have no idea what they are talking about in the explanation. Is it really that rage-inducing?

I got to the fourth checkpoint when I accidently hit select. Watched a video of the rest of the level and I would've never made it in 300 faults/30 minutes anyway. The sewage plant level is probably the worse as far as rage inducing to me, because those water pipe blasts take the control away from you for a second. I've been trying to gold that one without snapping my controller in half.

Some of the user created stuff is starting to get good already, I look forward to seeing more of it.

No, that is fun to do. But, when we talk video games we are completely serious (except when we make fun of the bad ones). Considering how long and philosophical the first Deus Ex was, I rage quit a single player game.

Penalty flag. We have multiple fouls on the play: Comma splice and incorrectly correcting the already-correct. 15 yards and loss of down, resulting in relinquishment of possession.

// I'd post on topic, but I suck at video games and find most of them frustrating... regardless, always an interesting thread topic

I do that to my brothers all the time regardless. Its always fun to piss off my older brothers. Pay back is a biatch... But I never tell them about the story. And I always falsify everything I tell them just to piss them off even more. Like giving fake spoilers and such.

possible examples: no the princess is totally in that castle, this ending proves its the last in the Halo series, Gears of War has a really great twist.

Ninja Gaiden and Ninja Gaiden Black were awesome, a runner for my favourite game(s) ever. Once I looked online for a few fighting tips, they weren't nearly as hard.

The main two if anyone wants to take this game one: 1) you get instant charge if you press attack right when you land from a jump. If there is essence around then bam instant power attack. 2) Specifically for the tanks, shooting fire arrows first this scares the annoying gunner down for a while. Then in between dodging cannon shots fire the armor-piercing arrows. When the gunner comes back out after a while, shoot fire arrow again and repeat.

There are more tricks and practice made me better (but far from perfect there are vids of people doing insane 100+ hit combos) but with these the game went from impossible to just challenging and loads of fun.

haha, Those are some of the ones I have given them. Though I am not an Xbox fan (Do not have one and do not want one). But I have given them misinformation on games like Left 4 Dead and Portal. It is always fun to watch them do something and get them killed in game.

The detective is really the killer in Heavy Rain.

Nah, that'd be too stupid for anyone to believe.

sirgrim: [cdn.wikimg.net image 256x240] Top Gun - NES

Actually a very easy game to beat. Sleepwalk through mission one. Get the heaviest missiles. Fly up to maximum altitude, keep your nose pointed up. Move left and right only enough to avoid radar lock and a few incoming missiles. Refuel, slam the boss with with the heavy ordinance, land. Rise and repeat twice. Game over.

Nope, Radiant Silvergun saves your bullet progress, so even if you die on stage 1 repeatedly you'll still level your bullets. Basically the more enemies you shoot, the easier the game becomes. The problem is that there are six different firing patterns and they each level independently.

At least that's how it was on the Saturn version of the game. I doubt they changed it in the Xbox re-release/

Egoy3k: They had some good ones on there but they missed a few;

Farcry 2

Awesome idea, great graphics, really cool environments, absolutely ruined by packs and insane enemies who, despite being militia in some 3rd world African nation seem to be equipped with man portable radar and surveillance gear. They put a lot of work into creating a great environment then filled it with enemies who make it impossible to move around for more than 3 seconds without being in a desperate firefight and having to repair your damn jeep again. This one angers me more than any other because it's so close to being good and so far away at the same time.

How about the original Ninja Gaiden?

Marble Madness has made me throw an NES controller many many times

Fallout New Vegas - Oh awesome I'm got a really good character now, wait why is the old lady from the junkyard floating over the desert, and why are her dogs attacking me...oh great so this save file is glitched guess I had better start a new one...

Civ 4 - oh awesome the enemy spearmen just defeated my advanced bombers....

Marble Madness was farking nuts, especially when you would fall from a ledge JUST high enough to crack your marble. I gave up on Fallout. The rampant glitching is such a turnoff.

I've been enraged by Defender since 1980 because I suck and never had a game last more than seconds. A quarter back then is like 77 cents now. So fark that game.

/ beat it once
// game has over 50 levels, no saves. making an attempt to beat the game was like attempting mount everest. everything had to be perfect. if by level 30, you had died once, you should start over, you'd never be able to make it through the 40s. it takes several hours to get to level 30. it takes several more to get to level 50. at this point, each level is taking 30 minutes. oh yeah, there are no saves, no continue points, nothing.
/// never played it again after beating it. it was on my third attempt that day. I had already restarted twice for deaths in the mid 20s levels. I was in shock and disbelief when it finally ended (I had no idea how many levels there were).

CygnusDarius: I haven't played DOTA 2, but I did started on the original mod, and I play League of Legends.

It's exactly the same shiat as described in dota 2. I think Ctrl + Alt + Del did a fine webcomic stating that all the vitriol actually holds the servers together.

I was curious to see if league of legends would be mentioned. Most unbalance, pos, rage-inducing game I've ever played. People will tell you the game is fine while being able to recite the same six champs banned in every draft game ever because they are overpowered. Now I just occasionally play it 5v5 vs bots and find that it is much more enjoyable.

The last level of the original Driver on Playstation. While driving a limousine, you have to escape from endless waves of vehicles which are both heavily armored and faster than you. I spent hours screaming at my television before I beat that level.

Any game that uses respawn points for enemies is immediately rage inducing. It's so maddening to fight through 30+ guys and waste all of your ammo only to not hit the "invisible checkpoint" and have a dozen or so more come at you. It's such a lazy/cheap tactic when game developers add this to every farking game they make.

Its so commonly used now, I can't tell when a game is not doing it. When it is a finite number but It doesn't feel like it, I usually die because I'm pushing forward trying to find said invisible point.

Its so rage inducing, it induces rage when it isn't used.

All lies, just admit it you suck at the game. Frankly I hate MW3, played for a month then stopped. Black Ops was much better and easier to play.
