The 14-room Queen Anne Victorian home in Fall River is for sale for $650,000. It is assessed at $313,200, which does not take into account its historical significance

It is not the same house where Andrew and Abby Borden were killed in August 1892.

Doesn't something actually have to happen at that house for it to be considered historically significant?

2012-04-24 05:47:37 PM
I wonder if the last owner used the bedroom to give himself 40 whacks?

It is where Lizzy lived after the trail... And the house itself is already in the historic register already, I believe.

It's certainly not as historical as the Borden house on Second St where the murders occurred, of course.

/Fall Riverite.

It's not the Murder House---it's the house where she lived out her life..Different houses. I was also tricked by this when it was news 2 days AGO

Yes, but you'd have to live in Fall River.

A girl took me there (at least that's what she told me) after we hooked up at some bar that was in a basement. Good times. I'm just glad the local clinic cleared me of any lasting memories.

I'd love to see the attic where she hid from the nazis. That historical link alone is worth the cost.

Forty whacks. But since most Farkers are pretty dumb, they'll sell to you for forty-one!

Poor girl, spending all those years hiding from the Germans in that attic, and being deaf and blind too. Truly inspiring stuff.

Lizzie Borden took an axe, and gave her mother forty whacks. And when she saw what she had done, she gave her father forty one ...

2012-04-24 09:04:52 PM
The property does not have the significance of being where the murders occurred.
It holds a minor interest to to Lizzie Bordenologists. (Similar to London's Ripperologists). Put the house on eBay.

I've always been fascinated by this case. Read a couple of books and a few years back took a group outing to Fall River and toured the house where the ax murders took place, a museum, with artifacts on the case and the local cemetery where the Borden family is buried. Believe we also saw the house referred to in the article. Recall the home where the murders occurred is a bed and breakfast.

I believe all evidence points to Lizzie being the killer, but she got off because a jury at that time could not believe that a church going Sunday school teacher like Lizzie would be capable of such brutal killings. The TV movie from the 1970's starring the bewitching Elizabeth Montgomery was quite well done and eerie. The film took the position that Lizzie did not have blood on her clothes and body after the murders because she gave her parents the "40 whacks" of the ax while naked and then showered off the blood.

14 rooms. You could open a restaurant with private dining areas. Hmm, how much is a Chop House franchise?

Saw them in concert a few years back (they were opening for Lordi I think). He did one of his stage blood acts on stage then came down and 'annointed' everyone in the front row with it. He only got my hand, but my brother got covered in the stage blood in both cheeks.

A few hours later we were driving home, and while passing Sunset & Vine an LAPD cruiser turned in front of us--both of the cops stared at my brother's fake-blood-covered-cheeks...slowed down slightly...then just kept going.

There's a show on Travel Channel that talked about the Bordens and some of what may have led up to the murders. If their theories are correct, you had some pretty messed up relatives.

The father was an extreme tight-wad, refusing to pay for any sort of even modest luxuries or even to have indoor plumbing even though he was by all accounts very wealthy. He also apparently had a fondness for his daughters that went beyond daddy bouncing his girls on his knee if you get my drift. The theory of the murders they advanced is that Lizzie and her sister conspired to murder their father and stepmother (who perhaps knew of the incest and did nothing to stop it), that Lizzie carried out them out, and that her sister helped her clean up after. They absolutely had motive, opportunity, and neither had an alibi.

In that light, Lizzie's behavior after the murders makes more sense. She certainly never killed again, perhaps because the monster was finally dead.

I didn't know LIzzie Bordon was from Massachussettes. For some reason, I thought that happened in Kansas or Iowa or something.

Either way, I'm not voting for Romney if he's from the ax-murderer state.
