The word "creepy" is so overused these days. I was talking about this with the girl at the check-out at my local grocery store. I thought she'd be flattered that I knew about her recent fight with her best friend. I mean, e-mail addresses come up in the first few pages of a Google search. It's not like the old posts of hers on an X-Files fan site from nine years ago.

I told her, "creepy is such a loaded term. It hurts peoples' feelings, often unintentionally. And when peoples' feelings get hurt, they tend to have a harder time ignoring intermittant, overpowering urges." I don't expect strangers to understand such things. But we're so much closer than strangers, you see. I dolefully bagged my own Chef Boyardee cans and departed, weighed down with disappointment and sweating, ever so slightly.

I'm not sure why she feels so uncomfortable. There's a built-in wall for when our relationship gets too close, as my breath usually fogs up the bathroom window within a couple of minutes.

After years of people avoiding eye contact and generally acting uncomfortable around me, I recently found out that when you enter an elevator, you're supposed to turn around and face the door.

cryinoutloud: Unfortunately, one of them is my sister. I quit talking to her years ago, but I had to speak to her recently, because our mother died--and she set me off so badly I felt like crawling under my bed.

Well, I'm glad you didn't. That would have been an unfortunate way for us to meet face-to-face for the first time.

rogue49: One of my ex-bosses made the hairs stand up on my neck when I first met him.

Turned out to be a financial assassin put in place by the company's board to undermine the founder/CEO.
Plus nuttier than a fruit-cake, screamed at the top of his lungs not call the CEO who's a Dr., a doctor.
and went freaky on the stand 2 yrs later in court when they were fighting over intellectual rights.

Wow, I've never heard that term before. I think I've found the title/plot for my next screenplay.

"Our tour guide is creepy".
.

I'm thinking cave tour guides might be touched with creepy in general. I had one in a nearby cave mention that there were miles of uncharted tunnels, and that if you got lost, the body would never be found. He stated this more as a "you could ditch a body" and less of a "don't stray from the path"

"You know, down here in these caves, it's dark. If you spent enough time down here, you'd be able to learn to use your other senses perfectly. Someone could just poke out your eyes, poke them out and leave you down here, and you'd be just fine, alone here. In the dark."
