The word "creepy" is so overused these days. I was talking about this with the girl at the check-out at my local grocery store. I thought she'd be flattered that I knew about her recent fight with her best friend. I mean, e-mail addresses come up in the first few pages of a Google search. It's not like the old posts of hers on an X-Files fan site from nine years ago.

I told her, "creepy is such a loaded term. It hurts peoples' feelings, often unintentionally. And when peoples' feelings get hurt, they tend to have a harder time ignoring intermittant, overpowering urges." I don't expect strangers to understand such things. But we're so much closer than strangers, you see. I dolefully bagged my own Chef Boyardee cans and departed, weighed down with disappointment and sweating, ever so slightly.

I'm not sure why she feels so uncomfortable. There's a built-in wall for when our relationship gets too close, as my breath usually fogs up the bathroom window within a couple of minutes.

I took my 10yo niece on a road trip last summer. As part of the trip we went to the Oregon caves which requires a ranger(?) to guide you through the caves. We had this pretty attractive mid-twenties female as our guide. However, she had some of the creepiest mannerisms, body language, choice of words in anyone I have ever met. Her interactions with everyone creeped me out significantly more than Dexter.

So... we get done with the tour and my niece comes up to me and whispers "Our tour guide is creepy". I burst out laughing and told her to keep it to herself but I was thinking the same thing.

I guess my point, or at least opinion is the fact I don't think this "Study" will be very accurate. Creepy people don't act creepy they act normal and are creepy. Anyone who has any skill at reading people knows when someone is acting fake. Fake is not creepy it is only offensive and annoying.

One of my ex-bosses made the hairs stand up on my neck when I first met him.

Turned out to be a financial assassin put in place by the company's board to undermine the founder/CEO.
Plus nuttier than a fruit-cake, screamed at the top of his lungs not call the CEO who's a Dr., a doctor.
and went freaky on the stand 2 yrs later in court when they were fighting over intellectual rights.

"Our tour guide is creepy".

I'm thinking cave tour guides might be touched with creepy in general. I had one in a nearby cave mention that there were miles of uncharted tunnels, and that if you got lost, the body would never be found. He stated this more as a "you could ditch a body" and less of a "don't stray from the path"

"You know, down here in these caves, it's dark. If you spent enough time down here, you'd be able to learn to use your other senses perfectly. Someone could just poke out your eyes, poke them out and leave you down here, and you'd be just fine, alone here. In the dark."

I picture the conversation going like this:

"Well aren't you just an adorable little girl. Did you know that the previous tour guide went insane and is living in the caves somewhere? Don't worry though, never causes any harm. That we know of at least."

I was married to a real nutcase, one of the "I'm going to kill you" types. I can't believe that I was sucked in by him, because after I learned to spot it, I don't see how anyone can miss that level of creepiness and fakeness. Now I can see it in anyone else pretty quickly too, and I can't stand to have those people anywhere near me.

Unfortunately, one of them is my sister. I quit talking to her years ago, but I had to speak to her recently, because our mother died--and she set me off so badly I felt like crawling under my bed.

I can't wait to see her at the memorial service this summer.

I get the feeling I'm seen as a bit creepy. I've mentioned it to my wife and she says I'm crazy, but she's biased. I've noticed women will not give me a second look and often unconsciously turn away from me. I've been told I bear a strong resemblance to Daniel Radcliffe. Once I overheard someone say I looked like Dahmer. That one hurt a bit. I'm too introverted for my own good. I walk quickly and silently and people often don't know I'm nearby.

Yeah it sucks but I'm used to it by now. At least I don't say weird shiat or intentionally annoy people. Shrug.

After years of people avoiding eye contact and generally acting uncomfortable around me, I recently found out that when you enter an elevator, you're supposed to turn around and face the door.

This kind if feeling is actually one of the more impressive features of Michael Fassbender's acting ability. I've never seen someone who can so effortlessly and quickly put themselves right in the middle of the Uncanny Valley. For examples, check out the "Meet David" viral video for Prometheus or, if you have more emotional fortitude and a stronger stomach, his performance in "Hunger". He knows exactly how to shift his body language, vocal tone, and microexpressions to stop seeming human. Really, really eerie.

/But that doesn't stop me from wanting to do borderline illegal things with him.
