Where do they do their laundry, in the Kroger's restroom?

I see your projector is fully functional. I'm super stoked to quote this in the future.

By the way, is what Ann Romney meant going to change your vote? Or do you think what she meant here will change anyone elses vote and you clarifying is changing anyones future voting?

Definitely a hotel due to the Lilliputian washing machine and industrial / basement chic decor. I'd wager that the majority of Mitt and Ann's wardrobe is dry clean only.

Monkeyhouse Zendo: skullkrusher: that it is. I still don't think she meant what her words literally said. Yeah, the Romney camp took Rosen's words literally and out of context but unless you're trying out for a spot on the campaign, what's the point of being blatantly dishonest in reading this quote?

That's the thing, Romney's campaign took Rosen's comment and twisted it to something different from the literal meaning. Ann's comment is literally offensive. All things being equal it's utterly ignorable but with Romney's proposed budget that small quiet voice is reminding me that maybe, just maybe, this was a moment of unguarded truth.

Yeah maybe she actually revels in human suffering and is too stupid to hide it. Or she phrased her sentence badly.

Kinda like when Hilary Rosen phrased her sentence badly, and Ann Romney spent the next two weeks harping on that mix up like a harpy.

So if this statement were turned around on her, and rammed up her ass for the next couple of weeks, it would almost be like quick acting karma, eh?

Nope not gonna change my vote in the least. I assume she misspoke but even if she meant it word for word (ignoring the last sentence out of convenience of course) I still won't be voting for Mitt in November. Of course I am not demanding she prove or disprove my assumption so the hackneyed and stupid comparison you are trying to draw is hackneyed and stupid. Remind me, was that the thread where you feigned ignorance over how context matters sometimes but not others? That was funny

There's a lot of gray area between angelic and diabolical. A whole lot of that gray area is "I don't give a shiat about people who aren't like me or in my social circle and it benefits me if the status quo remains unchanged". The plausible explanation is that she phrased her thought poorly. To think otherwise goes far beyond a wealthy person being out of touch (which she clearly is) and drops right into flat out misanthropic glee in the sorrow of others. Not buying it

Philip Francis Queeg: She just doesn't get it. It just become more and more clear.

When most parents look into a pantry stripped bare by ravenous teens, their concern isn't about the work spent shelving the food. It's about how they are going to cover the grocery bill, and what all this is costing them.

It's mighty speculative of you to say that's how she meant it. I don't see that level of particulars in the quote. She just said it's a sucky situation. Didn't elaborate as to why.

you know why we're talking about romney's wife, what somebody said about romney's wife, whether romney is a cybernetic entity or not, etc - because there are no concrete Romney policy proposals that he himself has not contradicted.

there is no reason to argue romney's policies, he's doing that with himself. all that's left up for discussion is fluff like this shiat.

Their struggles give them dignity. I'm pretty sure Mitt was going on about that a few days ago.

I've seen people justify all sorts of hardships others are forced to endure based on some religious or philosophical belief that suffering improved them. Suffering due to poverty seems to be a popular target for this.

I wouldn't buy it by this alone, either. And glee isn't really necessary to live in a vortex of culty wealth and wish everybody else would just disappear so she could spend her days teaching a Salvadoran maid named America to aim the estate's three-room crystal animal sculpture collection in just the right direction to make 7 am a discoball of Noah's Ark right there in her living room. I'm not calling the Romneys malicious. I'm calling them dickheads.

Did you know that when Aid to Families with Dependent Children was reformed into TANF in the 90's, its cost was like $19 billion/year. Even then, that was just a fraction of a fraction of the federal budget.

TANF's budget today, in unadjusted dollars, is something like $12 billion/year. That means in adjusted dollars, TANF spending is even less, probably something like $8 billion.
