If the poors are lucky, they might be able to get some spices spayed on their beans and rice.

What's your problem, burninbeaver? Pepper spray is essentially a food product!

Fark you, Hannity.

Very low food security is also known as food insecurity with hunger. Hunger ``should refer to a potential consequence of food insecurity that, because of prolonged, involuntary lack of food, results in discomfort, illness, weakness, or pain that goes beyond the usual uneasy sensation.''

Fark you so hard, Hannity.

households with low food security? wtf does that even mean?
what's wrong with measuring households that are hungry, or starving, or don't get the recommended calories in a day?
oh, you don't say,
our poor tend to be much fatter than the well off do in no small part probably to the 2 squares you can get at school (if not 3), the super high calorie dirt cheap fast food that is available over over the country, and the ample food supplies available to those who wish to partake from food pantries and food stamps.

basically it's difficult to claim that fat people aren't getting enough calories.
now I can see your dilemma, I understand how this makes you uncomfortable.
What's a whiny biatch that feels the need to constantly claim the sky is falling to do when for the first time in world history there are more fat people than hungry people and the ability to lay your hands on some calories in the united states has never been easier?

I know, you come up with a new standard, you make up a new term, one that still sounds to the casual observer like people are still going hungry, but where the definition of starving is much easier to qualify for.

so you call it food insecure! and what is a good way to capture as many people as possible? how can we disregard the fact that almost the entire society has access to cheap food and these community food programs now if they need them?

how about we ask if there has ever in the past 12 months been a moment when there wasn't what they felt like was enough food at their house? we'll arbitrarily decide that everyone in america must have a shiatload of food on hand food, at every moment of the day, or they will be categorized as food insecure the new starving! excellent.

great! people have to run out of food sometime! and how about we also ask if they ever felt hungry in the past 12 months! excellent. who the f*ck doesn't feel hungry every once in a while? we've gotten around the whole messy problem of claiming there isn't enough food when people are getting too many f*cking calories!

great job dissembling and obfuscating! high five!

the great thing about this new definition of yours is even a well paid dude like me is severely food insecure as well!
I run out of literally almost anything edible in my house at least 3-4 times a year.
I just don't grocery shop that much. I can actually remember a couple times late at night in the past couple years I was literally scraping the bottom of peanut butter jar or squirting sriracha hot chile sauce onto saltine crackers until my stomach growled at me so much I had to drive to jackinthebox in the middle of the night! but that's all it takes for food insecurity! if I can't immediately put my hands on enough food to whip up a 4 course meal I'm food insecure! again, great job.

you've created such an awesomely worthless definition that even though there is an actual fat epidemic among the poor that is so bad that cities like los angeles are contemplating outlawing fast food in the poor parts of town, your new calculations to proudly proclaim that America has never been so close to starving in it's entire history!

http://www.globalgiving.org/projects/fighting-hunger-in-america/
Hunger in America exists for over 50 million people. That is 1 in 6 of the population. As the U.S. faces the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, more people have fallen into the grips of hunger than ever before. It does not matter if you live in an urban, suburban or rural setting - hunger has no boundaries.

Seriously. Why can't poor people lose weight by picking up some leafy greens at Whole Foods? There's a delightful farmer's market in Ossining where you can get healthy organic food.

Why won't the poor people bother?

Ignoring that food is not that expensive when comparing housing costs, he seems to be endorsing that poverty creates competition and the will to succeed..

Endorsing the idea that the United States should treat it's population as a second or third world nations to create a more dynamic business environment seems at best depressing.

This is ignoring also that poverty can be expensive to a nation when you include related expenses that some like to ignore. But this is ok as the elite who prove themselves can live in gated communities.

I'd explain that there's a difference between malnutrition and a failure to get enough calories but I'm pretty sure you're too much of a moron to understand that a man can die of malnutrition while eating 2500 calories of day.

Obesity is a disease of excessive adipose tissue deposition, not overeating. The next time you start to think that someone is fat solely because they ate too much you should ask yourself if someone is tall because they ate too much.

There's a very strong correlation between poverty and obesity. The reason for this isn't the poor eat more food but that they eat what they can afford which is low quality food resulting in hormone issues and a failure to properly regulate fat storage.

One day I was walking home and I heard someone yell "Hey, asshole!" I turned around and he was about twenty feet behind me. When I turned, he turned his head real quick and tried to act like it wasn't him. I shrugged it off and kept walking. A few minutes here it is again, hey asshole. So I tuned around again and again he looked away and pretended it wasn't him. Now, I don't know what his problem was because I didn't know him. And besides that, I'm what you would call a little person; also I use crutches because I was born with only one leg. Again I started home and a few minutes later, sure enough, he yelled it again. This time I turned and started walking back toward him. He looked panicked and turned to run, but tripped over a crack in the sidewalk. I walked up to him and he was crying like a baby. It was disgusting. "What a baby," I said. Then I smashed his teeth out with my crutch and turned around and went home.

Eh, to put it bluntly, I'm not as bad off as many others, but I have to take the bus everywhere (no drivers license because of issues with my MS)... so when I work an 8 hour day, it takes me about 2 hours each way to get to and from work (it would take less than 15 minutes if I had a car... ).... so anyways, my 8 hour days frequently stretch into 12 hour days, then I do the other job, then I get home and frequently get my 6-8 hours of sleep. I usually skip breakfast, have a sandwich for lunch, then grill in the middle of the night (it's fast, and I can make pretty good chicken even at midnight). This concept that the poor aren't working hard enough is kind of bunk... I don't just mean that from an anecdotal sense, but if you look at the poor in a broader sense, look at how many jobs each poor person holds down, how many hours a week they are working, they're busting their hump just as much as anyone else. I know that in every wage thread, there's conservatives talking about how people aren't supposed to be living off of those jobs, but the reality for the last several decades as the US has shifted away from manufacturing is that the "tech" jobs don't have nearly the numbers of the lost manufacturing jobs and the new jobs are mostly these service jobs that people are supposed to spend their whole day at, but not live off of (I'm not really sure who is supposed to work those jobs since the ideal worker apparently will not require food, housing, or healthcare). I'm idealistic though, as China copes with wage inflation and fuel prices skyrocket, causing the price of trans-oceanic shipping to increase by leaps and bounds all the time, the question for global companies hoping to sell in the US will no longer be one of where it's cheaper, but one of whether they would rather spend the money on workers making the product or on fuel to ship the product. As much as I'm sure some are going to hate me for the sentiment, I firmly believe that high fuel prices, in that they pose a substantial barrier to Chinese labor replacement, is a good thing for domestic manufacturing. I look forward to the soon rebounding economy.
