bionicjoe: When does round 2 begin?

It's being widely reported that Predators-Coyotes will open on Friday. That would put Kings-Blues on Saturday and probably one of the East series (I'll bet whichever one the Flyers are in) will start that day too. The other would open on Sunday.

IMDWalrus: Frozen_Puck: IMDWalrus: Brodeur never did this.

I remember that! That wasn't the Game 7 where the Wings lit them up and won 7-0 was it?

Yep. 2002. Detroit was down in that series 3-2 after Game 5. They came back, won Game 6, and then Game 7 was glorious. 7-0 final score, with Roy getting pulled. No other series win has matched that one in my mind.

I dunno, McCarty getting that nice deke goal on Philly when we swept them for the cup is up there as well. As is yzerman's OT winner off the crossbar from the blue line. I can actually identify that ping from other, lesser shots.

Exactly what I figured. St. Louis can't host on Sunday, and LA can't host Game 3 before Wednesday in all likelihood, so a Sat-Mon-Wed start there makes sense. NHL doesn't want an off-day and both PHX and NSH have had plenty of time off, so they can start Friday.

That's true, it would be nowhere without gambling. Kinda like the NFL and March Madness.

I like the NFL, but I hate college basketball. I honestly believe if it weren't for office pools where Stacy the receptionist could win a couple hundred bucks by picking cute animal mascots and matching colors, neither would have much going for it on a "casual fan" scale.

. . . so that's what hockey needs to assure its popularity! 'Yotes fans, start bringing puppies to games! And the kitty-cats should make their logo an actual kitty-cat! Boston can bring teddy bears, the Canadiens real Canadian babies . . . I'm not sure what the Preds can do, but I'm sure we'll think of something!

You left that so open for a Chris Hansen pic, except I can't hotlink.

Honestly though, can you explain the popularity of March Madness other than brackets and office pools?

The NFL's explosion in popularity in the last 15 years?

Well, they're probably waiting to determine when each game will happen before announcing the full schedule. Plus, there's likely TV considerations involved.

They could announce the West, especially if they plan on starting a series on Friday. What are they going to do, wait until Thursday at 11pm to announce a Friday game?

I don't see anything announcing the start of the series on either teams site or anywhere else. If they're going to wait until Thursday night to announce the next round, I'm going to say that there won't be games until Saturday.

4NSpy: Canucks farm system is in shambles, but with Gillis I'm no longer confident that he will handle this situation well.

Shambles? Since farkin' when? The Wolves finished first in their division this season after years of decent records in Winnipeg. (Calder Cup finalist in 08-09) Connaughton, Parent, Schroeder, Suave, Tanev, Jensen, Hodgson, et al, from mostly late round picks from past few NHL drafts. Unless your definition of "shambles" is "decent shape"?? Did you live through the 80's-early 90's Nucks draft picks/farm teams? Libor Polasek ring a bell? After Neely in 83, up to Burkie wheeling and dealing to grab the twins in 99, almost all picks except Linden, Bure and Ohlund weren't anything to write home about. You may agree with many that what the Nucks got for CoHo was bad, mmmkay but I am not as doubtful on his ability to improve the farm or the Nucks through the draft. He was GM of the year, last season...let's see what he does with the Lou/Schneid situation and other off-season moves.

As shiatty as it is, I think they might. Or this evening after the Bruins/capitals series concludes they will put out a schedule covering each scenario of the panthers and devils game 7.

lecavalier: jaylectricity: I feel like there was a time when they've started the second round before the first round was fully over.

Most likely. For a while up until 1993, the second round was division finals, so that once two series in the same division were over, they knew exactly who their next opponent would be. With the conference-based system with reseeding, it's much more likely that you have to wait until the end to know any matchups. FWIW, I believe the NBA still occasionally starts a round 2 series before all the round 1s are over, as they still have a straight bracket.

Players union shot down the format for next season. Expect that to be a point of contention over the summer.

Playoff stats -

With jersey, without jersey shirt underneath - 1-2

Without jersey, without jersey shirt - 1-1

With jersey, with jersey shirt, in attendance - 1-0

So clearly I better go to Florida, lol.

Place was packed, it must've been a legit sellout. And all Devils fans too, I only saw two people the entire night in Panthers gear. We were ready to kill the refs after the 3rd missed tripping penalty on Florida, then by the 4th and 5th we were ready to go nuts, haha. Seriously though, we were plenty pissed, especially after Kovy got blatantly tripped and it led to a goal. Not that (with the exception for that gorrrrrrrgeous Kovy PP goal) the PP was doing anything anyway, but still. Like always, live hockey is ridiculously fun, live playoff hockey even more so, live playoff hockey when your team is on the brink of elimination even more so squared.

Ok, should have posted last night, but didn't bother turning my computer on.

This is the first game of that series I have watched. Wow, that game was pathetic. Way, way, way more boring than any game I've seen in the playoffs. There was more action in one minute of the Hawks game than there was in the entire third period last night.

And the Panthers? How did they make it to game six? I don't know if I've ever seen players just standing in the neutral zone like that. With the puck! They didn't skate through the neutral zone, they wandered into it, then maybe headed towards the O zone to send it deep and turn it over. I am just flabbergasted at how slowly everyone skated. It was like they had lead weights in their jerseys.

God, and turnovers? Florida had more turnovers in the third than they did shots the whole game! Have they even tried passing to a player on the same team?

I sincerely doubt either team will make it past the second round, and am wondering how they made it into the postseason in the first place.

That's pretty awesome. I'm glad your guys won. We got another game 7 to watch so I'm happy. Hopefully they will pull it out and you'll have a few more chances to see Marty play first-hand.
