ontariolightning: Whoever wins the cup gets to bring the cup to their country/hometown
I'd say that's representing

That works for small towns out on the shores of Newfoundland or in sticks of Saskatchewan, but nobody is getting pumped up because a player is bringing the cup to Vancouver/Calgary/Toronto for a day.

something, something, Luongo to the Blue Jackets? Plenty of cap space, can't figure out how to bring a goalie up through their system, and a team of concentrated fail. Sounds like a perfect match.

If NJD lose with Clemmenson in net for Florida then they need to
just cry, and cry some more.. cause that would be pathetic

GooberMcFly: I want the Panthers to win. My reasoning is thusly:

1. I hate the Leafs
2. Florida being successful proves that you can buy a contending team through free agency
3. Ottawa being successful proves that you can rebuild on the fly and, with some good drafting, be a contender sooner than later;
4. The Leafs suck and haven't been able to do either #2 or #3

Florida and Ottawa also have competent GMs, which Toronto lacks,

That is not true

So at no point in his career, nobody had the decency to tell Kenny Albert he really had a face for radio?

That is all the more hysterical that it's real.

Since I don't really have a clear preference, I'll get behind the WTF teams idea. Plus, Randy Moller.

Go Panthers!

Yes. Randy Moller is da man!

Luongo to the Leafs makes sense since they wouldn't have to worry about his habit of choking in the playoffs.

Probably not, but his dad has a nice lingerie collection perfect for Hollywood.

Esquilax1138: Only one game tonight? Almost not worth getting drunk for.. I said almost!

And Luongo waves his no trade, I bet he ends up in Toronto, that should be fun to watch.

Nah, Luongo will be in a Tampa uniform next season. The Leafs will be in competition with Columbus, Chicago and a couple of other teams for whichever goalies will be sought after next year.

They'll make the playoffs with Luongo for sure!
Plus Nash would stay as him and Lou are buddies

What about Philly? That way, they could have 2 massively overrated goalies who suck in big games on their roster.

I've tried Googling this a few times, never found out.

Has every team from one division ever made the playoffs in the same year?

I really wouldn't like Luongo in Columbus, too many years of being a Central rival.

I would think Luongo would use the leverage he has with his NTC to at least send himself somewhere that would honestly compete right away. Tampa's a playoff team like, right now, if they have "above average" goaltending.

But dozens of Canadians representing Canada on American teams

They're not "representing Canada." They're not representing anyone but their NHL city.

I don't know why people always want to turn this into a US vs Canada thing. Or talk about the last remaining Canadian team being "Canada's team."

Save that stuff for the Olympics and other international tournaments.

As a Buffalo native, I didn't feel especially represented when Patrick Kane won the Cup with the Hawks, or when Kevyn Adams won it with the Canes, or when Todd Marchant won it with the Ducks. Even if they did bring it back home with them for a visit. Because they weren't representing Buffalo.

wouldn't be the first time, and it'd feel kinda good to see Marty's former backup get the win over him...

but I'd rather see NYR/NJD bloodbath in the next round, so c'mon Devs

You wouldn't believe how happy everyone here was when Vancouver born Milan Lucic won the cup. Oh man was that a glorious day of celebrating all throughout the city.

It must suck if you're a Devils fan, knowing virtually every single team already has an offer sheet prepared for Parise's agent.

2012-04-24 07:58:40 PM
Considering the overall success we've had, I'm kinda glad the Devils still illicit a "Meh" response. I could understand the trap hate, since it can be boring at times (when good hitters aren't giving good legal hits). But I don't think we suffer from any of that anymore. In fact, I think the Devils are one of the few teams these days where if you hear someone is suspended for an illegal hit, you're like "Really? A Devil?"

Wrapping things up, not happy with recent progress, but I do like the teams perceived identity in the league. If we get a hot young goalie (which it seems we'll have to trade a big piece or two for), I think the post season success Brodeur helped bring to the team could return.

As a Flyers fan, I used to despise the Devils. But really I have no feeling now about them o9ne way or the other. They are the Redskins of the NHL for me.

Hurt worse when we lost Gomez, but then again (1) that's because he was the first good Hispanic American player, and I'm a Hispanic American (as shown by my screenname), and (2)... well, he hasn't faired so well, so the organization made the right call.

But yeah, pretty sure we're losing him. Still, other established skaters will come to play in a big market with Kovie and Clarkson.

Is it wrong that I hope the Red Wings are one of them? I'm not optimistic about getting some of our stars back next season. [insert "Detroit players are old and should retire" joke here]

NJD have turned the worlds most selfish player into a complete hockey player
the Kovalchuk turn around is pretty amazing

as is David Clarkson from fighter to scorer and fighter

I'm glad that my family picked a relatively dead night to ban me from the tv/watching hockey....

I really couldn't argue too much given the past few days/over the weekend when it was pretty much nonstop hockey.

/although I did point out that while the total number of games get cut in half each round they do go up in importance so don't expect me to give up the remote for the next month...

I like Clarkson, but are you confident he's a repeat 30-goal scorer now?

Heh, I just looked at Parise's profile on roto world, and this is the first thing listed under "latest news" for him: Just like many teams in the NHL, the Red Wings' offseason wishlist is topped by Zach Parise and Ryan Suter.

Agreed. But I think even more shocking than that was the overall offense. Most skilled offense I've seen the franchise have since I started watching the year before Brodeur arrived. They were a really exciting team to watch this year. Too bad Elias and Parise probably won't match that for the Devs next year. Well, for me anyway.
