I don't see what subby is worried about.
A few million legal gun owners on top of the tens of millions of illegally armed thugs will hardly make a statistical difference in your chances of being shot.

plausdeny: Devo: Is it just me or do gun owners come off a bit wussy?

Nobody was calling my 8-year old daughter "wussy" last weekend as she put a few 7.62x51 NATO rounds downrange with my suppressed M-14. They weren't calling her "wussy" when she shot the center out of her target with her pink AR-15 chambered in .22LR. Nobody called her "wussy" as she spotted my shots at 200 yards.

Only until someone took away her Barbie doll and she started to bawl.

Not exactly a new development...5.11/Woolrich are a cliche among the tacticool crowd. The only people who wear them are trying to signal that they're carrying. It's bad enough that the pants are referred to in many circles as "Shoot me first" pants.

scarmig: I have a .380 that fits into any pants or shorts pockets I have, fully concealed. It doesn't pack much of a punch, but they might bleed out after a few hours.

It packs enough punch for what you would reasonably carry it for, it's one of my favorite calibers and one I grab most often.

Rapmaster2000: This is what my father does. On the negative side, you're wearing a fanny pack... in public. On the plus side, nobody makes fun of people with guns to their face.

probesport: On the flipside nobody would make fun of you to your face.

So, for a gun owner, the proper response to someone making fun of him is to commit assault with a deadly weapon?

Ah yes, the WAISTBAND! No one has EVER thought of that, how clever!

Oh and B), he's about to shoot himself in the buttocks, because he put his finger on the trigger to pull it out.

Hammer isn't cocked and there is no evidence a round is chambered. The trigger either has a very tiny travel (looks like it was already pulled) or is non-existent. So maybe, maybe not.

No no no, that's going too far. You're just supposed to yank it out and stick it in their face to prove what a big tough man you are.

Yes, that is the correct assumption as there is no way to inject humor into these conversations at all. It is all about the government trying to steal rights from smart, responsible citizens ... I carry an .88 Magnum.

LOL. I've considered this. Granted, not many people would recognize the brand 5.11, even if they were looking, but I don't like to wear anything that hints I may be carrying. You won't find me wearing my IDPA cap, a fanny pack, or a "photographer" vest. I can't think of any instance where that kind of attention would be a good thing.

It's true. I'm a huge wuss. I just like things that make loud noises because they scare me. It's kind of like people who are scared of heights that ride roller-coasters.

I've never understood all the fancy clothes designed for concealed carry.

You could be wearing a full duty belt, with OWB holster and full-size handgun, and no one would notice you're carrying if you just untuck your shirt.

That's a Beretta 92fs. It's double action, so the hammer doesnt need to be back for the trigger to be pulled. Also, the trigger is still very far forward - it's still actually below his pants line. Yes, assuming a round was in the chamber, he is about to shoot himself in the ass. There is a reason why IWB holsters face the opposite direction.

Right, but it's a terrible practice to draw with the finger on the trigger, thus ASSUMING that there is no round chambered and the hammer uncocked. Because the force of pulling it out may well actuate the trigger. So basically if this is your method and something were to disrupt your routine and you accidentally stowed it while cocked, you're essentially waiting to shoot yourself.

Meh. Clothing with accommodations for concealed carry use are old hat. Now, if major designers really did start making them so they look like something you'd want to wear in public and not like you're trying to look "tacti-cool" (which is neither tactical nor cool), they would have something worthwhile. Unless 5.11 Tactical has something radically new coming out other than a vest (seriously, a vest?) or UA makes something that doesn't look like it was made to wear in a gym, then this is the same garbage anybody who has looked for such things in the last decade is used to.

signaljammer: I'll be stayin' in Illinois 'til this idiocy blows over.

And, with Chicago leading the country in anti-gun laws and deadly shootings by gangbangers, and advising condo owners to evacuate their homes while OWS protests the NATO summit, because the Chicago PD can't guarantee their safety, you definitely should stay in Illinois.

We don't want anyone that stupid wandering around loose in the rest of the country.

It's also the proper response of a tire iron owner, and I can assure you that I never leave my home without my tire iron securely holstered.

While I would have thought the scary tag would have taken it, the "Is it just me or do gun owners come off a bit wussy?" and "I'll be stayin' in Illinois 'til this idiocy blows over" seem to be taking it by leaps and bounds.

Are those MagTechs? If so, buy better ammo. I tested out a bunch of ammo myself after getting my P3AT.

i29.photobucket.com
.380 MagTech fired into water. The jacket peeled off immediately, and expansion was so low that the diameter of the core was less than the original 0.355". You're better off using ball.

i29.photobucket.com
For comparison, Speer GoldDots expanded nicely, retained all their mass, and penetrated over 12".

Concealed carry purses give me the shivers. Nothing like leaving your firearm hanging on the back of your restaurant chair, so that a thief gets your wallet AND your weapon. But on-the-body options for women are a bit limited. Even with a .380 - I can barely get a tissue in the pockets of women's jeans, let alone try to pocket carry. And that mail-order auto-mastectomy get-up? Ummm, no thanks - too close to the aorta for my comfort.

SuperTuck? Great rig, especially for larger frames or double-stacks.
My EDC is pretty small, I prefer something like a Don Hume or DeSantis SofTuck so I can move it around, depending on whether I'm driving or walking. Also easier to remove and stash if you need to enter a do-not-carry area.
