thanks for all the yankee corporate sponsor advertisement then 3 seconds of the reason for the video

In reality, the fan mistook Jones' throw as an offer to have a catch, when in reality he was just hoping to exchange the ball for the half dozen hot dogs the fan bought.

I hope Josh Hamilton was taking notes. That's how you throw a ball to a fan without killing him

2012-04-24 02:42:05 PM
They mis-spelled "Andrew."

I don't care if that's how it's "supposed" to be spelled, IT'S STILL WRONG!!!

2012-04-24 03:07:48 PM
Did he make sure not to throw it to a guy in centerfield?

2012-04-24 03:13:18 PM
David Wright has done this before as well. Played catch with a young Braves fan while warming up for a series in Atlanta.

Hard to take notes when you're on the clubhouse floor doing a few bumps before your turn at bat.

Oh sure, Andruw Jones can do it, but not Vince Coleman. Typical Yankee bias.

By all accounts, Andruw is a pretty nice guy. Not the best work ethic, but a nice guy.

Plus little leaguers in Curacao damn near worship him.

Much like Andruw Jones, Vernon Wells has only gotten fatter and less productive, but, he'll even personally autograph you a ball after:

Dear Mr. Dork,

Here is your ball! Can you please tell me what gas station you work at so I can come and yell at you when you're working? Please sit down, shut up and enjoy the game.

From your favorite centre fielder, Vernon Wells.

That's awesome. Did he really spell it "centre"? (I'm assuming he was playing for the Jays at the time)

Doesn't look like it...I just copied the actual script from some random Jays blog who probably "Canadia-fied" the translation.

Andruw is a nice guy, its too bad he liked twinkles more than playing to his strength with his quickness.

Too bad the rest of the lineup used Derek Holland as their BP pitcher... Oh well. Still in good shape.

Is Andruw Jones a Hall of Famer? They were talking about that during one of the games I was watching. I thought that his numbers seemed a bit pedestrian for the Hall, but they pointed out that Andruw Jones is one of only FOUR people in Major League history with 10 Gold Gloves, and over 400 home runs. And considering that his ten Gold Gloves were in consecutive years (as a member of the Braves), you can safely say that he was the most dominant NL centerfielder for an entire decade. Does that, along with 400+ HR get you in the HoF?

It's an interesting discussion. If you charted his stats in his prime, then extrapolated those stats on a curve based on the "average decline" of a player, there would likely be no question. The problem is his production went way south very fast the past several years.

Here's another way of looking at it: if he died in a plane crash 5 years ago, would you say he was Hall worthy?

On both Thursday and Friday evenings last week, I sat in the front row behind first base in Round Rock for the Omaha/RR games. On both occasions, Kevin Kouzmanoff (3B, Omaha) played warmup/catch with me in the stands just before the game and let me keep the practice ball each time. I felt just like a kid again ... it was absolutely awesome.

I'm not sure of this is becoming a trend or not, but I think it's a really cool way to involve the fans in the proceedings.

/If you're worried about lawsuits from some snowflake getting hit in the stands, just remember this: If you can't catch, stay the hell home.

//You freaking rock, Kevin Kouzmanoff.

ugh.. so it's gonna be one of THOSE games, huh Kuroda?

2012-04-24 08:44:45 PM
well, looks like Kuroda has settled down a bit after that leadoff homer to Kinsler

1-0 Rangers after 2

fun fact: not only is this only the 7th time in MLB history that two Japanese starters faced each other, this is the first time Kuroda has faced Darvish ever.
Darvish played for the Fighters in the Pacific League (NPB's AL equivalent) and Kuroda played for the Carp in the Central League (NL equiv.) so they never faced each other.

Ya know how in the movies, the team really sucks early on, then puts it all together somehow and starts winning? The Royals are going to be like that. Minus the part where they put it all together and start winning

Darvish through 7: 103 P, 6 H, 1 BB, 0 R, 9 K

/sigh

2012-04-24 10:14:49 PM
Davish had 13 BB and 14 K through his first 3 starts. Tonight he as 1 and 9

2012-04-24 10:15:42 PM

Kuroda pitched a pretty solid game tonight. Darvish was just better

Rex_Banner: Sorry - he actually has 2 walks and 9 K

yeah. Michael Kay said 1 walk.. should've known better..
Kuroda pulled with 1 on and 2 out in the 7th.. shame because he pitched really well tonight.. gave up 1 fewer hit than Darvish (those 2 of those were to Jeter, and one of -those- was a Jeter Hittm)

2012-04-24 10:47:05 PM
Not that y'all care, but the braves have been doing this for years. I remember klesko doing that back when I was a kid. Of course, throwing it back to him was the only way to get him to catch anything in left.
