I guess the D on D-train stands for derailed.

-The D-Train is one of three lines that serve Yankee Stadium
-Willis is playing for a Baltimore Orioles affiliate
-The New York Yankees were originally.. the Baltimore Orioles

Well, that should make him instantly valuable to another team.

He always seemed nuts.

FTA: Time in Norfolk changes a man, though...

Spent a few years in Norfolk, so this made me laugh.

What you talkin' bout Willis?

Ah, the O's. Always buying up someone else's table scraps and then surprised to find it's full of gristle.

He's going to show up in Mexico as the leader of a cock fighting ring with a midget as his right hand man.

The O's only have one lefty in their bullpen.

But yes, they are grasping at straws.

I really wonder what happened to this guy. Mental? Physical? Form? Confidence? Work ethic? Combination of things? In the absence of a physical injury...it's odd to see a starting pitcher just fall apart that quickly (relievers that get shelled in a big game have fallen apart). By the time they've reached the majors they've probably been pitching for 10-12 years.

He was lights out with the Marlins early in his career...but he started to slide a bit his last year. By the time he landed in Detroit (Detroit still wins the trade thanks to Cabrera) he couldn't find the strike zone. It's been downhill ever since.

Strange...

I'm sure he has plenty of other options if baseball doesn't respect him.

Form, look at his early delivery. It's goofy as hell with that really high leg kick and a lot of moving parts but it worked for him. Then he got a little older, a little bulkier, and a little stiffer and everything went to shiat.

Nonsense. He's faked his death so he can reunite with his high school sweetheart and help bring up their son.

Basically. His mechanics have always been all over the place.

I'm too lazy to actually look up the numbers, but if I'm not mistaken he wasn't that awful for The Reds last year.

You mean this guy is wandering around aimlessly in Norfolk as we speak?

Bet he's at Doumar's.

Didn't help that he only threw three pitches (Fb, slider, change), Nice if you're a reliever; as a starter, however, you need four pitches to get by.

Nothing says "sitting duck" faster than if his slider's off one night and he's only got the fastball and changeup going.

He did have unusual form. Usually pitchers can adapt their form a bit. But the 'roids angle may be more accurate. If he lost flexibility...he wouldn't be able to throw as effectively or consistently.

I don't necessarily agree. Fastball/changeup is the most effective combo in baseball, but only if you can locate your fastball in the zone(and keep people from smashing it) and duplicate your delivery with the changeup. Willis is wild and has a highish walk rate(career 3.7%), which is bad for setting up his changeup, since good changeups aren't strikes to begin with.

I just imagined Dontrelle Willis with bleached blonde hair and now I can't stop seeing Shelton Benjamin. Thanks.

Exactly this. It's what I think might happen to Lincecum. Lincecum's better, but he could encounter similar stiffness issues. Or maybe not.
