The GOP isn't racist, they have a token black man.

Can't you go find an actual Trayvon thread to be a willfully ignorant racist in?

Saw it live last night - the statement is more or less correct, but Matthews was being a jerk-off and cutting Steele off every chance he got (pably so Michael wouldn't say Ni*bong on TV like the racist he is).

Clearly moderate Republicans are unwilling to openly denounce racists it is because they secretly support them. Also, don't bother linking to anything where Republicans denounce racists. Since I haven't already heard of it they weren't denouncing hard enough for me.

/this is what conservatives actually believe

I don't agree with Romney. Does that mean I hate mormons?

People need to realize it's Obama's position they don't agree with - not his race. Hell... he's half white.

Arachidonic: Don't freaking say it out loud, for farks sake. You can think that shiat, but keep the conversation civil. Painting a group of people with a broad brush is not the best way to have civil public discourse.

Even if it the truth you don't say it?
Then you become a liar by omission which is still a liar.
The Democrats afraid to piss off anyone and the GOP only wants to piss off liberals, in this case both sides are bad. Just different kinds of bad.

2) The Democrats REALLY need to come up with a better narrative than "Only racists oppose Obama's re-election". First, it's obvioiusly untrue, and secondly, you do not GAIN support by insulting and alienating at least half of the country byu calling them racists. If anything, you will push them into voting AGAINST you.
3) It's farking retarded to call the GOP a party of the Klan with the former HEAD of the RNC across from you in all of his chocolatey goodness.
4) Obama's race seems to matter a whole lot more to his supporters than to his opponants.

#4 is absolutely untrue. I'll go so far as to say a sizeable majority of his supporters AND his detractors couldn't give a rats ass less about his race.

With that said, the portion of his opponents that hate him for his race is several orders of magnitude larger than the portion of his supporters that love him for it.

We're there other white democratic candidates running for president? No? Ok, then your comparison is garbage.

And the percentage of whites that oppose him as president has nothing to do with WHY they oppose him. Have we really reached the point in this conversation when I have to repeat your initial argument in order to refute your current argument? Stop moving the goalposts.

We can agree that the empty drum makes the most noise, so I'll say that maybe the racists are just more vocal. But, I have a hard time believeing that the "majority" of those opposed to Obama are doing so because of policy for one big reason...the GOP.

What in GODs name would make a sane person look at Michelle Bachmann, Newt Gingrich, Mitt Romney, Rick Perry, or Sarah Palin and think, "yeah, these people would do a better job of running the country"? Do you remember when Obama was a candidate? The biggest reason to vote against him was supposedly his inexperience in foreign policy matters. His naiveté was supposedly going to get us all killed. He had Osama Bin Laden killed and what did the war-loving, Muslim-hating, anti-terrorism conservatives have to say? Crickets. No, I mean they said "we still want to see the birth certificate".

Hard to imagine that this is about anything other than his race.

Poopspasm: About 95% of the African American vote goes blue in every election, whether the candidate is white or black. Apple, meet orange.

I'm not so sure it's Apples and Oranges. I said there was indisputably an increase in black voters for Obama's election.

The Googles tell me this:

", the Census Bureau reported an 8 percent increase in turnout among black voters ages 18-24, as compared to the 2004 election."

"Nearly all (95%) black voters cast their ballot for Democrat Barack Obama. Among Latino voters, 67% voted for Obama while 31% voted for Republican John McCain. Among Asian voters, 62% supported Obama and 35% voted for McCain. In contrast, white voters supported McCain (55%) over Obama (43%)."

"The unprecedented diversity of the electorate last year was driven by increases both in the number and in the turnout rates of minority eligible voters.
The levels of participation by black, Hispanic and Asian eligible voters all increased from 2004 to 2008, reducing the voter participation gap between themselves and white eligible voters. This was particularly true for black eligible voters. Their voter turnout rate increased 4.9 percentage points, from 60.3% in 2004 to 65.2% in 2008, nearly matching the voter turnout rate of white eligible voters (66.1%). "

"Blacks ages 18 to 29 increased their voter turnout rate by 8.7 percentage points, from 49.5% in 2004 to 58.2% in 2008, according to an analysis by the Center for Information and Research on Civic Learning and Engagement (CIRCLE) at Tufts University. The voter turnout rate among young black eligible voters was higher than that of young eligible voters of any other racial and ethnic group in 2008. This, too, was a first (Kirby and Kawashima-Ginsberg, 2009)."

"No Democrat since Carter had until Tuesday's election earned more than 38 percent of the white male vote."

"The Illinois senator [Obama] won 43 percent of white voters, 4 percentage points below Carter's performance in 1976 and equal to what Bill Clinton won in the three-man race of 1996. Republican John McCain won 55 percent of the white vote.

"Fully 96 percent of black voters supported Obama and constituted 13 percent of the electorate, a 2-percentage-point rise in their national turnout."

"In 2000, white women split between the two parties while Republicans won white men by 24 percentage points. That white male gap was dramatically narrowed Tuesday to 16 points,"

"Rural voters, who went for Bush by 19 points in 2004, leaned to McCain by 8 points."

"White independents, a fifth of voters, roughly split between the major party candidates, which has not occurred in a two-man race in three decades. It was McCain's support that was down compared to Bush in 2004, no small referendum on his effort to campaign as the "maverick." Obama earned the same level of support as Democrat John F. Kerry in 2004 - 47 percent."

So.. Yeah. Significantly more blacks came out to vote for Obama, and Obama got more WHITE votes than any other recent Democrat candidate.

But keep on calling anyone who votes against Obama a secret racist. It's a sure-fire way to push away people.

This. Black voters basically go unanimously towards Democrats even before Obama. Obama running for president just gave a little boost. If Hillary or someone else won, they will have still voted towards them even with disappointment.

(even weirder are the people arguing that the black voters did NOT come out in greater numbers for Obama. It's just a fact. However, it seems that some are disputing fact rather than recognize that NEITHER is an indication of racism)

First, it's obvioiusly untrue, and secondly, you do not GAIN support by insulting and alienating at least half of the country by calling them racists. Except if your unemployed or want reasonable gas prices or less government involved in health care and more domestic energy production from nuclear, natural gas and coal - then it's pretty hard to imagine it's about race at all.

Obama isn't disliked any more than Nancy Pelosi or Harry Reid or Al Gore or John Kerry. If he comes across as a whackjob liberal, he's going to be disliked and it has nothing to do with skin color. If you don't think so, then I guess you must also presume that Dems dislike Republican women like Palin because they are misogynists or they dislike African-American's like Clarence Thomas or Michael Steele because they are racist. To be honest, I think the left looks at gender and politics much more than Republicans. There are way many more comments about Blacks and women "voting against their own interest" if they vote Republican posts (which is racist/sexist, BTW) then anything conservatives post.
