This list it is terrible. #10, #7, and #4 the photographer was clearly told when to shoot. #3 doesn't involve timing at all.

The rest are setups.

Looks like some form of projectile going through crayons. If you know the expected feet-per-second velocity of the projectile + distance traveled + the speed of sound, all you need is an audio trigger switch to fire the flash at the correct delay. If the shot it taken in a dark room, you can leave the exposure open much longer than usual and base the image purely on the brief flash. That will capture the exact moment of impact, without requiring high-speed video. Link

What kind of hat will you be eating?

#3... how does that qualify? I mean, I guess it wouldn't work if the photographer could see the chick in the movie poster, or if they'd taken it five years ago, when this movie didn't exist. Compared to that, the rest of the pictures are actually cool. However, when considering historical context, none of those pictures are even remotely worthy of 90% of the pics posted in here thus far.

The one with the surfer and the shark was the only one that was right place, right time. The rest were all at least foreseeable and, in at least half of them, the shot was completely staged beforehand.

"I was at the right place and the right time when the ATM I was standing next to spit out $200 and I grabbed it"*.
