I want it to be great as much as anyone, but this is how all movies track. I think the Hunger Games was at something like 98% right until a few days before it was released, because they studios only let people who they knew had good things to say publish it. This isn't a number which means much right now.

2012-04-23 09:07:16 PM
Meh. I predict it stays above 90%.

You better bring the Emma Peel pics boy, or else, I will be disappoint.

Generally speaking, I think the RT number is pretty reliable. Good or decent movies almost always get rated fresh, bad movies don't, and movies with ratings above 90 are almost always actually pretty brilliant.

The author really thinks Ruffalo looks "disheveled" in that photo? Really?

Less than 30 reviews lets not start high fiving each other just yet.

That and they throw special screenings for nobodies and shower them with gift baskets. The only "reviewer" I recognize from RT that has reviewed it so far is Paul Verhoeven, director.

/not that it's not a good movie, doesn't listen to reviews anyway

2012-04-23 09:23:09 PM
Whether this will be a disappointment remains to be seen... all I know is this will be the first movie of the year I'll wholeheartedly pay the full price to see in the theatres.

Carth: Less than 30 reviews lets not start high fiving each other just yet.

Lets be honest - its extraordinarily unlikely this movie won't be at least 'good'. Given the director, the quality of the actors and the track record of the studio, it would be a phenomenal surprise if this movie wasn't good.

That being said, I think it's equally unlikely this movie will be truly brilliant, in the sense that it would make a 'best of the decade' list. I can think of three to five movies this year I'm beyond thrilled about because I think they all could be a 'best of the decade' in terms of quality, but none of these Marvel movies have ever been coherent or deep enough to come close to that level of quality, and this likely won't either.

We'll have to settle for a movie that will probably just be pretty awesome. I can live with that.

Todd McCarthy is pretty well known. But ya, other than those two, one of whom isn't a director, that's a wonderful list of nobodies.

I agree. I'm predicting Iron Man 1 levels of awesomeness and think anything less would be a bit of a let down. I just think 30 reviews is a bit too soon considering Thor started this high and fell to around 80 something percent.

80% is pretty good, to be fair; I liked Thor. I think Iron Man is clearly the best of the Marvel movies, and frankly I'd be shocked if The Avengers approached it in terms of quality. I just don't see how it could, since it's gonna have to juggle so many characters and plot, I just can't imagine it's going to really be 'about' anything, which is a problem.

and lets be honest it doesn't matter what the reviews look like I and many others are going to line up and see it regardless. I agree Iron Man 1 was the best marvel film to date (with Hulk or Iron Man 2 being the worst of the avengers group). There are so many people in this movie as long as it has more plot than a Transformers movie I'll be impressed.

Which of the Avengers movies did you think sucked balls? I enjoyed all of them to some degree which is why I'd ignore reviews for this one.

It's not perfect, but pretty darn great. They got Hulk right and, unlike Iron Man 2, it made me want an Iron Man 3.

"Already out in most foreign territories"? Why would they release a movie like this overseas before releasing it in the USA? And if it is out in other countries, shouldn't there be some reviews from regular folks by now?

to be fair, iron man was probably the best summer action flick since id4, which was about a decade before.. Thus putting it on one of those decade lists

When all the clips they release are basically all Scarlett Johanson, the worst part of Iron Man 2, then you know the movie is going to blow major chunks.

I don't think I've seen a classic superhero movie yet that wasn't completely awful. Thor was cringe-worthy. Fantastic Four was even worse. Somehow smashing a bunch of them all together into the same movie doesn't raise my hopes for a good outcome.

But, that's cool. The cross-over-jokes potential means that the RiffTrax for this thing will almost certainly be top-10 material.

Apparently, bootleg copies of Transformers 3 made it to Asgard.

That's a review??

And I'm confused: in some of Amy Nicholson's reviews she uses a letter system and in some she uses a star system (5 being the best)? And she gives "I Don't Know How She Does It" a 3/5 and that's "Fresh" but 3/5 for "Avengers" is "Rotten"??

Someone help me out here.

I don't care if it's at 1%.

I have horrible taste in movies apparently. I loved Sucker Punch, Pontypool and don't even mind Transformers 3 and Darkest Hour.
I just sit and enjoy. The only movie to completely piss me off has been INSIDIOUS, which just felt like the writer was personally insulting me. Other than that, its 2 hours I can spare.

Got my midnight Imax 3D ticket already!

It's happening more and more lately. Battleship has been in release all over the world for a month or so now. Anyway, here's the worldwide release dates. Not quite in release yet, but most will get it a week to a week and a half before us.

aww thanks guys and gals, even you christian tee vee fanatics...

thanks for all your kind words and thanks for singling me out when there are so many other fine trollers in here .

i just want to say thanks to Vash's Appendage and his christian right leanings....without her I wouldn't have so much fun here on FERK...

be that as it may.....
the movie is going to suck for people who like well written films that aren't rushed into production to make cash..to hop off onto raging fantards;
the fantard apologists who would go to the opening of an envelope if it had a DC or Marvel sticker on the outside of it will no doubt love the cosplay porn and the fact they paid 25 dollars to see it....
even ...though...it.....is...garbage...

i will watch it for free in HD and drink beer and say "wow, this is a truly stupid film for truly stupid people! the guy in the wig playing THOR needs to get some acting lessons!"

you fantards will distract yourself from your empty lives with more cos-porn.
because why?

two words; you are garbage, you eat garbage, you watch garbage.

i loved the first iron man...i really did.

go love your garbage.

MUAH!

ps, see you at the convention!

The advertising for The Avengers has worked well for me, with multiple trailers, plus leaked film clips; iTunes has a clip of Iron Man and Thor fighting that's worth a look. I really want to see how these lunatics manage to work together. I'll be looking for a Friday morning show, if I can find one.

The Dark Knight Rises? Just one trailer so far. One.

Nothing confuses me more than big internet arguments between opposing parties about the quality of a movie, when the movie hasn't even come out yet and nobody in the argument has seen it.
