CGI the whole way people, yeesh. Not that quadcopters won't be able to do this some day, but this is teh fakeness.

I'm calling fake. Zero recoil.
Also, if that thing came in my living room full of gasoline... I'd just grab it and smash it.

blojoker: I'm calling fake. Zero recoil.

There's some recoil.

But it's still fake.

2012-04-23 03:57:15 PM
I did see some recoil in there, but it could also definitely be fake.

In particular, this guy shoots a lot of guns. Why is it that he's OK with a flying gun spinning about and pointing at him? I wouldn't.

2012-04-23 04:25:04 PM
Fake or not, it's for total psychos.

2012-04-23 04:26:47 PM
No magazine, no bolt.

Still nicely done though.

2012-04-23 04:34:38 PM
It's probably fake, but the interesting part is, I bet it's real within a year or two.

I call fake because if it were real he'd show us more of how the remote control and electrical firing work. More of the weapon and how it is mounted. Why he considers it safe.

And he wouldn't blow it up before showing us plans for the Mark II.

That copters can't do much besides flying around a few feet off the ground with their very barebones and highly plasticized parts. Are there any accurate and non-disposable full-auto guns that are made of plastic? Well, outside of some gun fetishist's fantasies, I doubt it. So strap a metal gun and 100 rounds of ammo onto a contraption that only barely stays aloft for 10 minutes at a time.

2012-04-23 04:43:32 PM
My understanding is this guy's research is being sponsored by that animal rights group pissed the hunters shot their drone down.

2012-04-23 04:52:30 PM
I have one of those AR Drone quadcopters and I seriously doubt it could pick up something that heavy.

2012-04-23 04:54:39 PM
While I agree this is fake, this isn't that far-fetched.

Quadrotors exists that can lift 7 and 10 pound payloads. A 9mm UZI is around 8lbs, empty, and 30 9mm rounds will run a little over a pound.

That said, if I were to build one, I'd probably start with a Ruger 10/22. Almost no recoil and the entire assembly would come in under 5 lbs. And 100 rounds would be just over a pound. Granted, there isn't much in the way of stopping power, but an army of flying shooting quadrotors is a formidable opponent regardless of the caliber of the gun.

2012-04-23 05:05:42 PM
smoke unaffected by rotor wash, but I can see a day when some soldier is pinned down and pulls one of these out of his backpack

Needs a Metal Storm gun. No need for any firing mechanism. Just a tube and some circuitry and you are all set. Fast firing, little recoil, and very light.

faked up but plausable

considering he is based in the US, an actual working prototype would have him known only by a number a couple levels below ground.

Apparently he lives in Lavonia, Georgia.

Now if you asked me 30 seconds ago, I would have said that sounds like an Eastern European city, but apparently it's an American city.

Prototype.
Not sure if any of you farkers understand that word.

Titanium, aluminum, Nylon, ceramics, micro specialized payloads.
Add it up and put it to test on proving grounds, and he's right, this technology is about 10 years away.

I predict it will be used in a Hollywood shiat reel in 5.

The used to drum up support for our troops. USA USA.
for the next illegal war.
Come back in a decade to see if I'm right.
I was Right about 'Nam, and every other illegal war since.

I'll be right about this one.

/P.S. We'll be launching our next illegal war to contravent tirrwrists who use these.
//No they won't.
///We'll just claim they do.

Obvious fake, but I don't think they're actually TRYING to fool anyone. They're just making a cool video. And it is pretty well done.
-No view of tablet interface. Would be an easy way to prove it's real.
-Camera feed seems too stable. Looks like the way a camera mounted on a rig behaves.
-That 'gun' is absurd. no way does that 10" thing have a bolt assembly in it. That's just an AR quad-rail and 10.5" AR barrel hooked up to a hose. You can't feed cartridges through a hose anyway. (Why mount a rail on a remote drone anyway?)
-Muzzle flashes are not that bright and well-defined in daylight. Most of the time, they are invisible in direct sunlight.
-Gunshot report doesn't sound right for outdoor environment. Too consistent, too loud for the distance, no echo.
-Secret military prototype with a suicide charge, and they let the fake Russian blow up a like 30 million dollar piece of military hardware for his youtube video. Right. It's this part that makes me think they aren't ACTUALLY trying seriously to fool anyone.

That said, anyone who IS fooled by this is an idiot.

It is not 100% CGI. Most of the aerial footage is real, but some is not (the end, by the car is clearly pixelz). The shooting is fake, of course.

2012-04-23 09:35:23 PM
The "weapon" was the barrel and foregrip of an M-4 type carbine. No firing mechanism, no place for ejected brass, or ammo storage. Since the actual working part of the weapon was not shown, the tube in the weapons rear would have to be where the fired bullet entered the barrel. Most firearms don't work well with curved or bent barrels. The Germans tried and failed during WWII.

It is fake. Duh. But it was pretty entertaining nonetheless.

Call of duty? I've had a wii for a little over a year now. The wife bought wii fit, I bought Black Ops. Just found out last night i could get online and play. I just thought a subscription would be needed. Anyway I was playing call of duty all last night, so i am tired and getting a kick.

The "gun" has no receiver. Where's he hiding the 100 round clip? What caliber?
Also, last I heard, 1 gallon of gasoline has the explosive power of 17 sticks of dynamite. Assuming that 2 gallon container was full as he alluded; that was a woefully small explosion.

Wow. I always thought the guy was some Russian living in the US West. Thought he'd be fun to shoot with.

And now I find out he's just a little up the road from my GF's house. Hell, i bought my 45 in Lavonia!

Gasoline doesn't explode like TNT at standard atmospheric pressure. Molotov Cocktail for example.

/Even my mom knows this

Oh, so you build weapons, do you?
I see what could be a prototypical weapon.
And if I pulled that out at a traffic stop, I'm sure the nice officer would agree.

gravity fed magazine?
check.
hidden receiver?
check.
Not showing enough of his prototype to satify anyone's curiosity?
Standard practice.

Or it's fake.
I don't know.
But, it could be real.

What possible relevance does this have to the video in question?
