Hm. So they swooped in to get their candidates elected in 2010 & now everyone realizes how big of a mistake it was?

Oh there's a big surprise! That's an incredible - I think I'm going to have a heart attack and die of not surprise!

It might explain the massive push to get all the batsh*t insane legislation passed before the elections.

For the last goddamned time -- rebadging the GOP's fruitcakey base was never a "movement".

It's perhaps the adoption of a protest against corporate collusion with the Crown to create a monopolist influence over the colonies, and then giving blanket support for corporate collusion within the government that sort of spoils it for me.

For a movement that loves their freedom, they seem awful keen on limiting said freedom for a LOT of folks. It's hard to really support an Astroturf campaign that is outliving its purpose, and that is all that the TEA Party is. It was manufactured, it fleeced a lot of folks of their cash, and now that its purpose is fulfilled, the backers are going to let the rank and file try to take care of it, and when they fail, they'll point to it as their failure, as opposed to the fact that the largest backers just stopped endorsing checks, becausue their usefulness is done...

Their definition of "freedom" is "freedom to make things the way I like it and screw everybody else."

The Koch Brothers and Dick Armey's plan to shift the GOP to the far right has worked ergo the Tea Party are now an irrelevant and embarrassing nuisance to them. FOX News and RW money could whip them up into another frenzy but I think the GOP have come to fear the monster they've helped create here.

To be honest, when I read the Fark headline, I thought the article was going to be about the Kony 2012 movement.

I just came back from a 14 day trans-Atlantic cruise on Princess lines and I can say with confidence that the tea-baggie seniors that were gung-ho two years ago about the movement are now shiatting their manpampers because they had to settle for mini-suites this year. They might be ready to ride the hope train if they get desperate enough.

Beef? So pedestrian, try Cochinita Pibil instead.

Slow roasted pork with Achote, marinated in Seville Oranges, topped with chopped red onions, and served with Habeñero salsa. That's flavor, motherfarker.

Organized by corporate money and far-right zealots to 'take back America'. Did manage to help derail single payer health-care and medical reforms. 2010 Congress is bought and paid for.

Now I consider myself an open-minded, conservative-leaning libertarian. So thanks, Teabaggers.

The thing i learned from the tea party is that the religious right will happily lie about their motives and principals to gain a wider audience. Even after you start calling any non-social conservative a RINO, you will still insist on lying. Your whole movement is defined by your lack of integrity.

2012-04-23 07:30:39 PM
FTA: The same Post-ABC poll that showed interest in the tea party flagging also showed that roughly four in 10 people described themselves as supporters of the movement, numbers virtually unchanged over the last year.

So they're still derping along, it's just that everyone else is fed up with their herps.

That, and the Republicans are realizing that their bullshiat only flies when you have a middle-class that is fearful of losing what they have. Now that the middle-class is vanishing, you have only the rich and poor left, and the rich don't have the ability to hide behind the middle-class to mask their corrosive policies. The Republicans seem to forget that the middle-class helped them a lot: it was a nice buffer to screw over the poor. But when everybody is poor, posing for pictures in a magazine wearing a white button-up shirt and jeans won't make people think of you as an equal as much as they'll think of you as hiding something.

The game is up, and the Republicans realize it, and now they're putting all their policies into effect because they know it's better to defend than attack when it comes to our system. Just another bit of class warfare from Those Who Want Us To Eat Cake.

This. Conservatives were pretty masterful at turning the whole narrative on its head and getting people riled up at the wrong targets. I think folks may be starting to figure that out.

The Tea Party ran behind widely-accepted ideas such as controlling government spending and wanting to hold government officials accountable for their actions. But instead of being a third-party group, it stuck almost entirely behind Republican ideals and "Socialist Kenya Marxist Ni-*BONG* Obama will kill us all" nuts ended up latching to it. And with no severe moderation and in fact denying the racism leaking from the movement, it just spiraled into a mess.

They are entirely relevant and you're a communist if you think they shouldn't be allowed to direct the discourse for the Republicans this year. The republicans would be fools not to use the Tea Party's every suggestion as planks in their overall platform.

Tea Party = Derp Golem Modern-day Tafurs

The analogy is more relevant. The GOP nobles mobilized these political ragtags to do their dirty work, and as with the real Tafurs, these modern-day Tafurs also ended up out of control, to the point where they threatened the GOP's strategy as well. The line used to motivate the Tafurs during the Crusades wouldn't be out of place with these morons, either:

"Where are the poor folk who want property? Let them come with me!....for today with God's help I shall win enough to load many a mule!"

What counts as the tea party these days?

The guy wth the racist posters or some right wing religious wacko or the small government types?

I was having trouble sympathizing with OWS due to their "Free Mumia" slogan so I myself understand other peoples confusion IRT the Tea Party.

What was the outsider party has become the establishment conservative party, the "kick them all out" mentality now works against them

Also, they were put into power in 2010 to change congress but the only change has been complete gridlock. Holding one's breath until turning purple is not a valid governing stance.

The OWS people with hardcore pro-communism signs turned me off to their movement. I think it shows how much our universities are failing to educate (or the faculty simple avoids talking about the real history of communism).

As for the tea party. At first I symphathized. I even recognized the one sided reporting by the newspapers, e.g. representing the entire movement by that guy with that extremely racist sign. However, many of the tea party groups are getting taken over by the religious wackos. So there's no chance they'll get my support.

Where's a socially liberal, fiscally conservative guy to go?

Try tongue sometime. Seriously, throw a tongue into the slow cooker with a little water, some chopped onion, a few cloves of garlic, some spices... It pulls apart like pork, and tastes amazing.

I'm picky about my tacos, though. Like "grow my own cilantro" picky.

Oh, and the 'baggers are a group of idiots. And probably don't make decent tacos.

So many of the Tea Party's own websites reveal their insanity, regardless of what the media is reporting. Their sites are filled with manifestos screaming about "communism" and "socialism" and religious babble.
