Yea, I mean, why would you eat in a city that has thousands of restaurants, many of which are considered the best in the nation? I certainly would never eat in a city that takes food so seriously that over 40 of its restaurants have earned Michelin stars, has more farmers markets than you can shake a carrot at, and is home to more Food Network stars than the Food Network itself. You just go on ahead and enjoy eating at Cheesecake Factory for the rest of your life.

All smartassery aside, most of those shoots happen in divey bars that happen to serve food. I am sure that the places were no worse for wear health-wise after the shoots.

I used to think that Fark had a disproportionately high number of BDSM enthusiasts (myself included). Nowadays I'm thinking that there's just a ton of people in general who are into it, whether or not they're a formal part of the subculture.

Um, no, it doesn't work like that. It's not like a teaching hospital. The rooms are closed during filming. There's even a big red light and a sign warning folks not to make noise that might be picked up on the audio.

They do. I have a friend who was in a bar they came to film at. They wanted everyone to sign a release and he got all squicked out and left. I was like "You IDIOT!".

I'e been on the tour and it's really cool. Totally recommend it for people visiting town. Not only is a cool old building but there's some pretty freaky shiat in there. The room full of strap ons and ball gags and various restraint devices was pretty cool. The prop room (more like vault) was fun, wish I could have had an hour to poke around in there to see what kind of weird props they'd used. Also liked the 'farking Machines' set. There was a tool box (like one of those ones on wheels with 6 drawers) full of symbian attachments and dildos. And a box marked 'backup condoms' Like they were going to run out of the thousands of condoms on hand.

The sets were cool to see and it was interesting to look at all the equipment they use for production. Yes, there were 55 gallon drums of lube. But also a full wood and metal shop. Someone has to make all those props. You can also see Mission Creek in the only place that it visibly runs. Since the building was an armory it had to have running water, so they built it on top of the creek.

So, go on this tour if you possibly can. I'm going a second time in a few weeks, a friend of mine bought the groupon.

Actually there's a story. The guy bought the place for $14M. A freakin' bargain for that much realestate in San Francisco. Basically nobody else could figure out what to do with it. Some people had tried to develop condos but couldn't due to city regulations so it just sat empty for a bunch of years. A bondage porn studio is pretty much the perfect use for the place. Even though I don't watch what they produce, I'm glad someone is using the building.

This is incorrect. Kink.com has an entire bar setup build in one of the stage rooms, because they can't shoot actual sex scenes in public establishments

CSB: when I got a press release from them yesterday (because I get all sorts of stupid press releases from horrible people at my job), I was so ticked off that I shot off an e-mail to their general community feedback address (using a dummy e-mail account). I mentioned that the good folk at Kink aren't breaking any laws and there's no reason to get indignant with Groupon. The person in the video, Dawn, actually wrote back and said that they've been breaking obscenity laws and haven't been prosecuted. I'm pretty sure that's bullshiat, so you don't have to assume Dawn is a farking dumbshiat - I've got proof.

So does Kink get a tax write-off for maintaining that building as a historical site? I think I recall an article last year saying they wanted to start a community center. I'm sure the taxes on that building are...growing larger all the time.

my friend used to work there. never did the tour, but he'd sign us up to be bystanders in the wrestling and public disgrace shoots. free drinks, and participation with limits was encouraged. weird to see porn being shot in person. awesome building, too.

When my best friend from high school got married in about 1984 the southern baptist church they were getting married in, which his girl friend had attended with her VERY strict religious family, refused to play the wedding march when the bride came down the isle.
