But I believe the common denominator, the proximate cause of the irrational behavior, is arrogance; the belief by some powerful men that they can get away with it. That the world is still their unchallenged domain, as it was years ago, when few people knew about a president bringing women to the White House to have sex, as John F. Kennedy did, or pressuring his secretary to yield to sexual advances, as was common. It is willful ignorance that the world has changed.

........ and another woman is wrong yet again trying to analyze men with over complicated strings of psychoanalysis and their own emotional interpretation to judge men.

If "arrogance; the belief by some powerful men that they can get away with it" is the primary driver of what drove these men to cheating etc then men of humbler means would never cheat or have drastically reduce rate of infidelity and yet this is not the case. There is absolutely no statistical difference with infidelity based on the socioeconomic levels of men!!!!

who are more stupid? the men or the women who try to analyze men and then totally gets it wrong?

Magnanimous_J: kiwimoogle84: Be hotter than anyone he'd cheat with, and he'll never stray.

Staying attractive for your man is great advice, but attractiveness is not why they cheat. Granted, Scarlett Johansson could probably get Billy Graham to hide his wedding ring in his pocket, but for the vast majority of straying men, its all about the nagging.

Years of being bossed around, nagged, shrieked at, manipulated, and hassled leaves a man feeling empty and docile. He starts automatically yielding to her merciless will because he knows any non-compliance will result in 2 hours of being yelled at right before bed, or in the morning when he's trying to leave for work. She gradually and insidiously gets rid of all the remnants of his bachelor life because these items may remind him of how he used to feel, and also because he needs to know that if they were ever to break up, he would be sleeping on a pile of T-shirts in a studio apartment because she threw away all his furniture. Where there once was a broad shouldered man, stubbled chin set in determination, heart blazing with the intensity of masculine power and an eye for conquest..... is now a shell of his former self; fire dimmed to embers, domesticated, his chain made one link at a time, without him even noticing.

Trapped.

Then one day perchance he meets a woman who genuinely seems to like him for him. Laughs at his jokes, respects his opinions, and honors his manly power. He starts to come alive again, but isn't strong enough yet to do what has to be done and end his relationship, so he takes the easy way out and cheats.

It's not necessarily "right" but its predictable. A surging river will break the dam at the point of least resistance.

This.

Being hot is only part of it. I mean, just not letting oneself go. The attentiveness is a huge chunk of it. Your point is valid. A man very close to me just went through a similar thing. He put her through school, he raised HER son as his own, he provided for her tirelessly while she was a professional volunteer and couch potato. She gained a ton of weight, stopped being attentive to his needs, and he went nearly a year without any physical affection. Finally I'm glad he did what was right and divorced her. He had been mangled into a shell of his former glory, and not shockingly after he divorced her she got her teeth fixed and got a tummy tuck. No man would want her in the shape she let herself dissolve to while my friend was with her, the shape he would have been happy with had she only been thankful and loving.

How on earth did you get that from this post? I'm sorry some dude broke your heart in high school or something but keep your drama away from me. In my experience, there are times a girlfriend of mine has done something amazingly stupid, and I didn't feel like dealing with the BS so I'd rather be distant and ignore her and she does exactly what kiwimoogle84 just described and suddenly the world is a much happier place and I'm all set to chat.

Virtue: CasperImproved: What is the likelihood that women are less prone to violence then men are? The question that you now raise in my mind?

What is the percentage of male vs. female perpetrators of crime that contain no violence?

If women are less prone to violence then they are not the same as men....they are not EQUAL (Equal means the same) so that would be a significant DIFFERENCE....Are you saying men and women are not equal?

Um. Less prone to violence means they aren't equal to men? By your argument, of one man is less prone to violence than another man, does that mean they aren't equals either? Jesus H. Christ, man. Tread carefully, here.

I don't think you are catching this wave.

Cheaters will always be cheaters, but if you are taking care of business? The business will take care of itself.

Back on post... women are and always have been every bit as smart as their male counterparts. It's only in the last century or two that we are giving them the props they have already earned.

Only, that's not how it actually works, since plenty of people cheat despite getting business taken care of at home.

Like I said, it's not a foolproof policy. Some men are just dogs. You encounter one, leave him behind. There are plenty of good men who deserve your affections.

You want women to be take seriously? Eliminate legal double standards...Here is a short list

1. Force women to register for the draft as well
2. 50% of all Recipients of child-support need to be men
3. Men need a legal right to end parenthood just like women have
4. Women need to work half of all overtime not just the current 10%
5. Women need to account for half of all workplace injuries and fatalities not just the current 5%
6. Women need to account for half of all combatant fatalities not just the current statistically insignificant %

Oh, no see I knew where you were going with that and I'm not offended. I'm more talking about if you have a good man and your relationship gets strained. Sometimes it IS as simple as a sammich in a ziploc bag with a love note written on it packed into his lunch. But if a man has violent tendencies, if you're perceptive, you see those early and move on. I get your reasoning.

This article is stupid. These are not your average men risking everything for some strange. These are men in power. People in power do morally questionable/illegal things all the time (infidelity, drugs, dog fighting, etc.). It is because since they are in power they think they can get away with anything. Women in the same position do the same sorts of things, especially infidelity.

I am a dude. My wife and I have a good sex life, so no complaints there right now, too.

Given clarification, I more or less agree. Like your friend mentioned earlier, I'd throw down the divorce and be out dating if I was in a similar situation. It's not that I think a man or woman should suffer eternally after his or her spouse rides the gravy train to flab town with an extended stay in apathy towers, I think other people behaving like shiatheads doesn't absolve someone of their own behavior. So flabbing out? shiatty. Cheating for it? Still shiatty.

Yes

"How else can we explain the endless parade of otherwise successful individuals, who by all appearances seem intelligent and competent, and yet risk destroying their careers and their personal lives over the chance to have a sexual escapade?"

Answer: to men, putting the penis in a vagina and moving it about until is makes a mess is called sex. It's no big deal. But women make it a very big deal and they only want their man's penis in their vagina. Women think that men actually give a flying fark if a politician gets a little on the side. We don't. We don't care even if we would never screw around on our wives. Men only pretend care for political reasons.

6. Combatant injuries? I'm not sure what you mean by that. I assume you mean war. And again, more men sign up than women. They shouldn't be forced to. In order to account for half, women would have to be forced to enlist. That's a fascist country if people were forced to enlist.

You mean like the draft we have here in the US?

If you want us to stop making stupid decisions, just legalize prostitution.

Can I nominate this for Best Post on the Internet Forever?

Seconded.

Yeah, it's her fault if he cheats. Just like she should do that sammich right if she doesn't want him smacking her around.

Had nothing to do with cheating and everything to do with conflict resolution. At least that's how I read it.

Given the article and discussion is about cheating, I was in that head space.

I'm sorry if it's too dramatic for you. I'll dress down my posts some.

Well then hell, sorry. I bring my wife flowers and godiva for no reason now and then. I assumed the keep him happy or he will cheat theme was going on. Not be thoughtful and considerate to each other or misery will occur. On board there.

Sounds as though you are lacking... I can relate. But the answer is to not act as though the giving of flowers and candy are something "special". I am using hindsight here. But in truth? If you have the spirit of what Kiwi hints at, the flowers and candy wouldn't be special, just unexpected. And the fact that "she" put a love note in your pocket, or in the lunch she made for you would be forever special. That is how love works. Little special moments that mean so much to you, and no other.

Find that? And you will be a happy "man". Screw the sexual differences.

Rational arguments called chauvinism....This must be a man hating feminist. But don't let me stop your misandry!

I saw a comparison between eastenders (a tv soap in the UK) and reality. There were many things but only one really sticks in my mind. In eastenders you are 10 times more likely than reality to be murdered. In the tv square in london they have had a good few people killed off and reality is not that scary. They have had more people having affairs and yet in reality you are 10 times more likely to have a partner cheat on you than in a soap....

StaleCoffee: The problem isn't unrealistic social structures and taboos, it's people who want to fark around not being up front about it.

Nah, that's not what it is. I never wanted to cheat until my wife turned into an fat, asexual shrew. I wanted to stay married to the 130 lb big-boobed, gotta-have-it-thrice-a-week gal I was dating. Then we moved to another city, she refused to get friends, and decided it was her job to meddle in everything I did when I was doing things, and boss me around when I wasn't doing anything. She only wanted to do it when she was outrageously drunk, which was the only time she wasn't shiatting on me.

/also : once you're married, your wife thinks that pr0n is you cheating on her.

Beerguy: If you want us to stop making stupid decisions, just legalize prostitution.

Poor point to make. Sex is only as good as the effort you are personally willing to invest in it. If you need to pay for it? It will never be good. Money doesn't really matter with the right person in your life.

A) James!: Maybe the question should be "what does you're private sex life have to do with your ability to work?"

B) germ78: Society would be smarter if we allowed room for men's natural biological imperative to stretch its legs and get its balls dusted every once in a while, instead of locking them into sexless monogamous relationships with no expiration date.

C) Magnanimous_J: kiwimoogle84: Be hotter than anyone he'd cheat with, and he'll never stray.

D) All of the above.

This is what a feminist looks like.

http://www.womynkind.org/scum.htm

Quote from the link.

"The male is completely egocentric, trapped inside himself, incapable of empathizing or identifying with others, or love, friendship, affection of tenderness. He is a completely isolated unit, incapable of rapport with anyone. His responses are entirely visceral, not cerebral; his intelligence is a mere tool in the services of his drives and needs; he is incapable of mental passion, mental interaction; he can't relate to anything other than his own physical sensations. He is a half-dead, unresponsive lump, incapable of giving or receiving pleasure or happiness; consequently, he is at best an utter bore, an inoffensive blob, since only those capable of absorption in others can be charming. He is trapped in a twilight zone halfway between humans and apes, and is far worse off than the apes because, unlike the apes, he is capable of a large array of negative feelings -- hate, jealousy, contempt, disgust, guilt, shame, doubt -- and moreover, he is aware of what he is and what he isn't."

I'm doing fine, thanks

.kiwimoogle84: Why apologize? You brought up a reasonable argument. This banter on Fark brightens my day provided its done in a rational manner. And you're a good man. Mine likes to surprise me with lingerie. I feel special with a gift, he gets to enjoy the view. Boom, we're both happy.

I like to apologize when I'm arguing in error. Thanks for saying so, it's nice to hear, even from strangers.

I quit buying her lingerie since she isn't much into it. She does like to dress up and I love it when she does but she just seems to prefer buying that stuff herself. Our team efforts in that venue are more along the lines of browsing goodvibes together and such.

Anyway, I think that's enough from me. Enjoy your day.

Virtue: kiwimoogle84: 1. I agree, if they are unmarried.
2. Child support goes to the parent with the children. Most men are happy to be rid of the children so most of the time the mother gets custody. That's not something I can change.
3. Ending parenthood I think he should have a say in, but they can't cart a pregnant woman off and have it aborted against her will. Women carry the children. Not something i can change. They want a say in parenthood? Get snipped. There, take charge, men.
4. I do my part. I worked 176 hours of overtime last year, as mandated by my job.
5. Do you take into account carpal tunnel? More women do secretarial jobs than men. Men do heavy lifting, back injuries. Women type, wrist issues.
6. Combatant injuries? I'm not sure what you mean by that. I assume you mean war. And again, more men sign up than women. They shouldn't be forced to. In order to account for half, women would have to be forced to enlist. That's a fascist country if people were forced to enlist.

Happy?

I think you mean to say that custody gets givin to the mother most of the time because states get one federal dollar for every dollar of court ordered child support.

3. Ending parenthood I think he should have a say in, but they can't cart a pregnant woman off and have it aborted against her will. Women carry the children. Not something i can change. They want a say in parenthood? Get snipped. There, take charge, men.

So what about a paper abortion? And you can get your tubes tied

5. Do you take into account carpal tunnel? More women do secretarial jobs than men. Men do heavy lifting, back injuries. Women type, wrist issues

6. Combatant injuries? I'm not sure what you mean by that. I assume you mean war. And again, more men sign up than women. They shouldn't be for ...

We can agree to disagree. I see you neglected to address the views I agreed with you on.
