I'm calling BS. Making a woman feel attractive is not simple by any definition of the word. In fact, if I were to make a list of the most amazingly difficult things to accomplish in life, making a woman feel attractive has to be near the top. Women are constantly bombarded with images in advertising, television and movies of what they should look like. If she's not skin and bones, she feels fat. Her boobs are always too big or too small, never perfect. Etc etc.

I'm taking any and all advice you have by the way. I get how awesome and powerful that would be but I have yet to find an actual solution to making a woman feel attractive.

The problem is that, with all that marketing and media around it, I think men get the impression it's about buying stuff or arranging perfect encounters or something. It's really not. It's not about lingerie, or lighting dozens of candles, or just saying words that sound nice. You have to separate how a woman criticizes herself from how she thinks you see her. We'll always nitpick our looks, but we really do respond to a partner who sincerely compliments us at random times or who can give the 'look' kiwi mentioned upthread.

It can be a little thing like telling me I look lovely and then him whispering that he's thinking about when we can be alone later. It doesn't have to be constant, and it shouldn't seem forced or desperate, it doesn't have to be explicit, or be written in poetry. Hee hee! Well, John Edwards is the gold standard, of course. The problem is there is very little shown in public media, movies or TV, that portrays a male character that really 'gets it'. What's entertaining is not necessarily the same as what's good for day to day living and long term relationships. Keeping with visual media, and not getting into books or obscurities, I thought Julian Sands' character in Room with a View portrayed some qualities that matched what I've been saying (not perfect mind you, but a few scenes capture it). Can't think of much else off hand since I don't really watch a lot of tv or movies involving romance or human drama (I likes me some horror and science shows primarily).

I think we've both done and admirable job of destroying each other's emotional being over the last few years (been together @17). One or both of us will get a little upset here and there, but mostly we just keep it cool. Never let the kids see anything nasty. Sometimes, people can just reach a point, together, of just being DONE... And while it can and will hurt here and there, there's more just a feeling of relief that you aren't running into each other's brick walls anymore.

We are going to give the "live together while being divorced" thing a shot for awhile. I fear this... But it beats the shiat out of telling 2 young kids I'm moving out.

I guess I'll always be an "old dog" since I don't *want* women to be the same. As tempting as man love or a life of vasectomy driven hedonistic heterosexual buggery, I still prefer matrimony and child rearing.
