kingoomieiii: Mentat: The only people still afraid of the word "communist" are aging Boomers.

I had my 55-yo father tell me that we can't afford to trust the Russians, and we should be EXTREMELY afraid that Obama is willing to talk with them. When I rolled my eyes, he told me I was too young to remember the cold war.

That's a series of events that actually happened. Like two weeks ago.

Oh, and somehow he's under the impression that the "controversial" European missile defense system they keep talking about is actually OUR missile defense system. The one in this country. He somehow thinks, or someone told him, that Obama has agreed to put OUR missile defense system on the negotiating table.

My dad is an intelligent person. Until politics comes up. Then he becomes a retard.

Well, I am not a Boomer, but I agree the Russians cannot be trusted.

Then again, I am Lithuanian, so that might have something to do with it.

HellRaisingHoosier: Millennials are truly not insulted or frightened by Socialism or Communism. Want to know why?

Because when we were still children, two giant airplanes destroyed two of the tallest buildings in the world in front of our very eyes ... live and in color. Because in the years after that we were told we were going to be killed by weapons of mass destruction, then following that we got throw into at least two wars. Our rights were stripped, our treasure taken, our debts quadrupled, our education doubled, our pay was cut, our jobs were taken and then we were told it was all happening to us because .... we're lazy.

So yea, tell me again, after everything our parents have done to us; just why the hell would I fear a Communist?

because..um...SOCALISMS! OMG SO MANY SOCALISMS DON'T YOU SEE THE SOCALISMS!?

damn.

ok, about about gays? gay marriage is...um...gay marriage. [waves gay marriage around]. not working?

hmm.

I know! ABORTION! yeah, that's right....abortion always brings 'em to the yard! you can't help it...you see the abortion debate and you get sucked right into the vortex! thats' right...just let it wash over you....be angry, get distracted. the corporations will take care of things as they always have...no need to worry. you just go right along and argue about access to abortion. or women's rights or whatever it is floats yer boat.

I kind of liked Huntsman - some of the stuff he was spouting sounding almost like things a reasonably intelligent person might say - not all of it mind you but quite a bit. Of course by the time I knew who he was, he was already a dead man walking in the primaries. At the time I looked at who "had the momentum" and realized THEY were all batshiat crazy and Romney would likely be the lone survivor - and boy does he set me toes tingling.... or not.

If he really wanted to be President he would have said this during the campaign. He never wanted to be President, he simply wanted to use his daddy's money on a free publicity tour before he takes up residence as a paid troll on MSNBC.

Maine Public Broadcasting was doing the standard candidate call in with one of the Democrats running in the primary for Sen. Snowe's seat and a woman called in asking him his position on the gold standard. He politely said he wasn't an economist but didn't think it would help and went on to ask her how she felt about it. Her response was basically "I think it would be good for us, because it would be good" begging the question non-sense.

I don't trust the Russians either, but it's not because they're Communist. It's because their leader is an ex-KGB turned oligarch who poisons his enemies with polonium.

If he was a patriot you would expect him to use Ruthenium. Polonium is so Polish.

Where has he been? The Tea GOP would love China!!

Minimum wage (jokingly small and often ignored completely)
No OSHA
No EPA
No unemployment insurance
No medicaid or medicare or social security
Flat VAT consumption tax for the most part
Education (Yeah if you can afford it because that schnit ain't free)

Hell if they could just get it a little more Jesus-ly over there then it would be a gosh darn tea party patriot paradise.

DON.MAC: James!: Communism is a red herring.

Wasn't there a Jesus guy who went around telling people how cool it would be to live in a communist society?

/First truly communist city was the Christian city of Constantinople where they kicked out people who didn't give up all their possessions
//Why did Constantinople get the works? That's nobody's business but the Turks
///Turks didn't like commies then

Actually that would be Sparta, at least for the Spartiates who each were given exactly equal wealth from the state. It also had all the other features we saw in 20th century communism: discouragement of private enterprise, enslavement of the productive class, slavish devotion to the all-compassing state, and a secet police who eliminated dissenters with savage efficency

Magorn: Actually that would be Sparta

Many early civilizations had commie tendencies but until Constantinople, they didn't kick out the rich and powerful's offspring or take by force since they expelled the capitalist and didn't just lob off their heads and take their goods. In the era of Sparta, there were still powerful leaders that were above the rest from time to time. Of course the Constantinople hippy commune may have only lasted a few rounds of the drum circle they undoubtedly had.

Most of the people I know my age, including the Tea Party types, are more afraid of the war on drugs than the drugs themselves. I doubt that would gain much traction.

The United States of America is a Representative Republic. Sorry to pop yer bubble. In simple terms a democracy is where every citizen who wishes can vote on every issue. Majority wins.... Democracy.

We do not do that, we vote to elect a person to represent us in Gov't (Senators, House Reps etc) and THEY vote on every issue. The majority does not always win.... Representative Republic.

BojanglesPaladin: I continue to like Hunstman more and more.

He needs to drop the passive-aggressive streak. He was always a long-shot anyway so there was nothing to lose by being more blunt. Take the climate-change thing. It's simple enough to take a position that even if somebody believes humans have something to do with climate change, the particular humans running the show in Washington are about the last people I'd want to have control over what to do about it.

I still like him, but he's whining here. If he wants to run third-party, he should quit biatching and do it.

I don't think he wants to run at all.

But I think he is correctly identifying that with the RNC letting the retards drive the Republican bus, and the DNC fixated on more and more social agendas, bigger government, and 'sticking it to the rich', many centrist or moderate Republicans and Democrats need a different vehicle to advance thier agendas.

At least he is even SAYING it, which is more than can be said for a lot of increasingly marginalized rational Republicans.
