If I were living in a competitive state, I would probably cast my vote for Obama because the idea of giving the GOP the presidency along with likely slim majorities in the House and Senate scares the daylights out of me. I can totally see Mitt Romney nominating Janice Rogers Brown for a SCOTUS seat and making it more likely that any government regulation could be judged unconstitutional.

As it is though, I live in a state that will probably go 70/30 for Romney, so I have no problem with casting a vote for Gary Johnson or Buddy Roemer assuming one of them is on the ballot.

American politicians have very minimal (close to zero) affect on the price of gasoline. It's mostly supply and demand. The world economy when Obama took office sucked ass, so demand was down, so so was the price. The world economy is (overall) booming right now, so demand is up, so so is the price.

But we do have some control on supply - if we had been smart and allowed drilling in ANWR 10 years ago, we'd have more supply and prices would be lower. We have billions of barrels of untapped domestic oil and gas resources that we can use to increase supply and lower prices. We need to start doing more of that.

And no, "alternative energy" isn't an option - at least not a realistic one. Wind, solar, and biomass are not workable options for energy production. The laws of physics don't give a damn about "green energy" fantasies. If we want to start powering things with electricity rather than fossil fuels, we'd better start ramping up our nuclear power capabilities.
