I never fully understood it. So they are the capital of Canada and they're called Senators, which makes sense. DC had the Washington Senators. But then the whole gladiator thing is where I get confused. I mean, if they're going for the Roman democracy thing, shouldn't their mascot be a guy in a toga?

The Senators is a stupid, stupid, stupid mascot. It's awful. You may as well be rooting for the Ottawa CEOs, or the Ottawa Tax Attorneys, etc. It's awful.

We need CBC at least for hockey

I actually disagree. The CBC should get out of professional sports entirely (including the Olympics) and leave that to TSN and CTV. Focus on amateur sports as well as good, quality programming, as per its mandate - what it used to do before the network was dumbed down for a youth audience. Keep the CBC public, though.
