I'd like the song better if he just shut up. The music is pretty groovy, but his singing kind of ruins it.

We left early.

I think Gotye covered that song where there's five people playing the same guitar.

"Begging the question" is a form of logical fallacy in which a statement or claim is assumed to be true without evidence other than the statement or claim itself. When one begs the question, the initial assumption of a statement is treated as already proven without any logic to show why the statement is true in the first place.

To beg the question does not mean "to raise the question." (e.g. "It begs the question, why is he so dumb?") This is a common error of usage made by those who mistake the word "question" in the phrase to refer to a literal question. Sadly, the error has grown more and more common with time, such that even journalists, advertisers, and major mass media entities have fallen prey to "BTQ Abuse."

Hm.

I think I heard the "somebody that i used to know" on the radio the other day.

He should probably be paying royalties to Sting and the Police.

Also, "Somebody that I used to know" is also the name of a far better song by Elliott Smith.

justtray: People still watch "Glee" huh? Must be the same people still watching American Idol.

Teenage girls? There are a lot of them.

Speaking of which, I have a teenage girl & we watch glee together and glee's version was not only bad, but done in terrible context. It was sung between two brothers who, it seemed, were never close in the first place. Terrible story-telling, which is kind of the norm with glee anyway. But since it was sung by total dreamboats Matt Bomer & Darren Criss, I doubt many teenage girls noticed that it was a creepy song to sing to your brother.

It's a much better single than most of what's out there. Decent melody. Decent arrangement. Decent singer. Lyrics that don't make you cringe.

Yeah he sounds a bit like Peter Gabriel- there are far worse performers to sound like.

Glee is auto tuned and obnoxious. Anyone with a decent single has a right to criticize their covers.

This song of his blows. And while not horribly ugly, Kimbra is no where near as hot as other pop starlet chicks.

Gotye seems pretty cool, "Glee" lost its shine and innovation over a year ago, and once again we choose to cheapen our language by misusing very specific and well-defined philosophical terms because of laziness and generally ignorance.

Agreed. I do like his voice. He's got great range. Even in that cover with the 5 people/guitar, it takes two dudes to sing the song. The thing I really like about this song is that it includes both sides of the conflict.

Him: I know we had to break up, but you were kinda harsh about it

I'm unsurprised that such a student of popular music history and structure such as Wally De Backer would deliver a completely accurate dissection of Glee's attempt at covering his song. Glee in general makes songs sound worse, and this was included in his critique. Also: why must they cut out most of the first and second verses? Anything to get to the chorus (rolls eyes).

I don't care what any of you fools say about Gotye's music; both "Making Mirrors" and "Like Drawing Blood" are terrific stem to stern. I won't claim to be an early-discoverer, and I don't know about "Boardface," as I was unable to find it on Amazon and have thus only heard a few tracks on Pandora.

What? I'm a fan but I'm also a cheapskate!

yelmrog: He should probably be paying royalties to Sting and the Police.

I would like to see the Police cover this song.

People can and do use "beg the question" to mean "raise the question" hooray for English, the living language. Also, can I axe you a question?

/other sources showing how the phrase is used in the modern context.
This one however, is the best. He quotes directly from multiple sources who say it is the current understood usage, while sneering that everyone in the world is incorrect. to wit "The usage is disputed in the Oxford Modern English Dictionary, under entry 2, 'to pose the question,' and a comment follows: 'Over the years [the phrase] has been misunderstood and another meaning has arisen...this is now the more common use of the phrase'" (emphasis added). That is some funny stuff right there.

I didn't like the single at first, but after the Walk off the Earth cover i gave his album a good listen. I like his album track like Eyes Wide Open and Easy Way Out show a bit more up beat, if still somber in lyrics. Still, his other albums aren't my cup of tea. I hope he keeps with this new direction .

I thank AltNation on SiriusXM for getting me to listen to him, they really are a fantastic station for trying to find new artists.
