This is kind of like the Klan using the Trayvon Martin shootings to advocate lyching. But they have a good point: no more outsourcing of underage prostitution that could be handled by Amercian whore-banging-workers.

And the above is the one problem I have with this "scandal." I have to wonder how many American prostitutes were cheated or cheated and subsequently arrested because this particular guy has no integrity?

Pot is still illegal because it would compete with other very profitable businesses.

Prostitution is still illegal because Jesus and we aren't entirely opposed to being a theocracy.

Actually its not, there have been attempts to make it legal by videotaping it. The courts don't buy it. Both of the people have to be actors and both have to be paid, and not by a receiving member. Film crew can't get in on the action, etc.

That's because, by going to dinner and a movie, you're creating an economic need for services. In essence, you're a job creator, fueling the service and motion picture industry.

If you pay the girl directly, however, she's going to just spend it on drugs.

What on earth does expectation have to do with consent? Or how on earth is anything other than consent relevant to whether two adults can have sex?

I can drive around and ask women to have sex with me for $0. But the minute that number becomes non-zero it is illegal. Why? Because money is not a good reason to consent? Should we force all marriages to have pre-nups?

Well, I feel compelled to argue the other side a bit now. I have a friend that works with an organization trying to end prostitution. She feels the workers are exploited and abused. She sees herself as advocating for and trying to protect the sex workers.

We have come to agree that underage children should not be charged with prostitution. Rather, their john should be charged with molestation or statutory rape.

For the most part, we don't discuss the issue, though, because there is such a gap between our stances. I could possibly be more aggressive in pursuing my own line of thinking if she weren't so sincere in her own beliefs. She has genuine care and concern for sex workers. I just think it is care and concern that is channeled poorly.

A lot (I'll even estimate most) are abused and exploited, and some of that abuse is because of the illegality--there's no recourse other than to tolerate it. It's not a regulated and consumer-monitored industry. From a practical perspective, the best way to prevent the abuse is to allow the action. There's always going to be people who are willing to go outside the law for what they want (or feel they need), but you can help some of the folks by making it more socially acceptable.

In most states, minors are still charged with prostitution. I can think of no other situation in which can a person be a victim but also guilty of a crime for the exact same act. It's truly heinous. And unlike the typical statutory rape scenario, these girls really are forced into having sex with men.

Exactly. And it's the same with pot. The extreme majority of negative side effects of marijuana use in our society stems from the fact that it is illegal.

I do think there are some risks with legalizing marijuana. I also think those risks could be dealt with in a measured, reasonable way. We could start by establishing a legal age of 21 or older as we currently do with alcohol. Implement some penalties for providing pot to individuals who are not yet 21. Again, I believe we have penalties of that sort for alcohol already.

Well, just a moment ...

I don't understand why they are getting fired. Some guy, who happened to be a secret service agent, tried to rip-off a prostitute. So she called the cops and he should pay her what the rate was that they agreed upon.
