It's like "running in place," said Lynn Reaser, chief economist at Point Loma Nazarene University.

I don't recall hearning a concept called "the new nomal" in my econ classes.

If they said this, then this means the will get better...

I've notices that most economists only re-enforce the conservative viewpoint of the time.
If it on a bubble and everyone is in denial...then the predict up.
If it's been a recession and everyone is still wary...then they predict negative.

Me, I watch the actual events occuring over time.
It tends to be a better predictor.

But then again, people don't have time to watch...they would rather be told.

Obviously we have huge issues with our economy, but one issue that I believe has been pulling our country down over the years is our pathetic work ethic. I'm one of three owners of 4 grocery stores in NE GA and from what I see people do not want to work. I see countless fully capable people dragging themselves into the store each month buying whatever they can with their food stamps, EBT, etc. Half of these people are morbidly obese (as are their children), wear pajamas in the store, and are nothing but a bunch of lazy assholes. These people wouldn't take a job if you offered it to them. Why? Because if they work and actually start making money they will lose the security of living a government subsidized existence. We have no incentives for people to get off their butts and start producing. Do you people realize that you can draw unemployment for up to 2 years? Effin ridiculous. There are always jobs. McDonalds is almost always hiring and if you work hard and become store manager you can make around 40-50k.

How many out of the dozens or so McDonald's employees become manager?

I'm sure there are some pretty shiatty people, fat or otherwise, but McDonald's isn't much of an option. And last I checked unemployment only pays 60% or so of your wage from when you had a job, so if they won't take McDonald's jobs, that generally means they normally should be able to get something much better. Or at least used to...

Sluggish is the perfect cop out word. Economy goes down, you win. Economy goes up, you just say "not enough". The only way to be wrong is nothing short of an economic miracle. Economies are always sluggish, by their very nature.

Amen brother.

Sadly, the government will never cut "these people" off. You as a private business owner can, though.

Just stop accepting food stamps. You'll never be able to remove the security of income from them, but you can remove the security of being able to buy food. They'll come around eventually...or their children will starve. Either way, they, and their children, will learn a valuable lesson about work ethic.

Now, you may be thinking that they'll just take their food stamps elsewhere. This is a valid concern. You're going to have to take on for the team. Sorry about that.

So I guess that's an improvement.

Brainwash: Greedy people of all races, colors, and creeds are destroying the world economy.

If money is all we value then why bother with a pretense of morality? Let's just admit its become every selfish asshole for himself and run with it,

Are these the same economists who failed to see the Big Crash coming, even as it was obvious for years that a real estate bubble had grown in the United States?

If they were that incompetent in 2005-07, why should we listen to them now?

In theory, if he's one if three owners of four grocery stores, surely he could pledge to hire one food stamp customer a day indefinitely, to reduce those on the dole unnecessarily.

Think of the pro-GOP publicity: courageous Job Creator scoffs at Obama's failed efforts by hiring severals of the unemployed!

Because....well, wait and they'll write a really detailed article about that three months from now when everybody has 'forgotten.'

I can actually believe this. There are people content to just feed off the system - and see nothing wrong with it. When has the stigma of being on welfare, assistance from the gov't, etc turned perfectly acceptable as a society?

I would go nuts knowing I was not providing a sustainable future for my family and not providing the best possible life for them. I have worked with plenty of people in low income housing working 6 days a week to provide for themselves and family. They never complained how the system was rigged against them, they were grateful to get hours to work because that meant they could afford to do something "extra."

i don't think Kiinux was trolling, i haven't met many of that type he/she describes but i've never seen a billionaire either but know they exist.

How do you know they didn't see it coming? Were you paying attention to what they were saying at the time? For all you know they were screaming at the top of their lungs and the news media didn't cover it, so you'd never hear.

People who point to "people on welfare" whenever the economy is discussed, just show how SMALL and emotionally misguided their thinking is.

Why would ANYONE be excited about work when the value of your working hour is probably the most devalued that it's ever been? Who in the FARK really wants to work hard to make rich people richer? How many of us spent our whole lives BUSTING ASS and only being taken advantage of for it, and not being properly compensated? A lot. The "lie" of capitalism is OBVIOUS to everyone who isn't still enamored with impressing bosses to be ahead of their neighbors. You're a weak gimmick.

Look at predictions of the future from the 50s. They all had use working 3 day weeks and enjoying the fruits of increased productivity from automation.

Contrast that with the stark realities of today. All those gains went to a tiny few while the majority work ever harder for less.

We have enough wealth in our great nation to feed, clothe, and offer housing to all our citizens. We chose to let our own go hungry and lie on the streets because to take a little from someone who has x1000 what they will ever need is unthinkable.
