As a teacher, I can assure you something more than retirement is called for if he was firing blanks AT students. An arrest, for one.

Although honestly, if I could, I'd use an air horn in class. BWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OO OOOOOOO!

If the kids were good, they could be the one to push the button. Every single class, the boys would suddenly be perfect little angels once they knew it was almost time to pick who got to press the horn button that day.

And Jimmy, were you and Mr. doglover alone when he asked you to "press the button"?

If he fired live rounds they'd lock him up and throw away the key.

I had a teacher that kept a Nerf gun in his desk and would shoot it at students who had fallen asleep or were reading a magazine inside their text book or something.

Had a teacher throw a stapler at me in 7th grade. Good thing I saw it coming. I now work for that same school district and I visited that classroom a few months back. There's still a hole in the wall where the stapler hit. 27yrs later.

A high school teacher in Virginia

The county sheriff says the charges are the result of Dillow "inciting fear into the students," but some students and parents are standing by the teacher. "I support Mr. Dillow 100% and my son and I will be in the court room when he goes to support him," one parent says.

Great, now they're going to add a whole lesson to each semester about how we can't fire guns at students. I'm currently majoring in History and Teacher's Education and the crap that we have to learn in our education classes is so incredibly dull and full of common sense. We can't hit the kids or laugh at them when they answer a question wrong? Oh and we shouldn't encourage bullying?

If it's done anything positive it has made me realize that I want to stay in school and get a PhD so I never have to deal with this crap after I finish my student teaching. By the time I'm teaching as a professor all the classes will be online anyway...

/Damn kids.

Blanks have killed people before (see Jon-Erik Hexum). They are Not toys. If one of my children were in the group of 10, I would not be supporting the psycho teacher. If he has lost control of his class to the point that a fake execution seemed reasonable - he needs to retire immediately.

His teachers union will grieve this as an unjust and illegal suspension, and he'll have his job back in a few weeks... ...or at least an agreement for fully paid medical leave until retirement age at which time he'll collect his full pension and lifetime health benefits without prejudice.

//because teachers unions have the kids educational interests at heart, don'cha know.

I had an English teacher my freshman year, name of Herm Schattenberg. He would throw tennis balls with his one good arm at you if you were sleeping in class, goofing off or wore a hat in to the classroom. If you were a smartass, he'd make you hold a desk above your head with the unabridged Oxford English dictionary atop it.

I remember one day that his chair collapsed under him during class and only ONE kid laughed. The rest of us were too busy trying to see if he was ok. The kid that laughed got the shiat beaten out of him.

I can still recite "The Raven" from memory due to his class and he taught me so much as a 14 year old kid about what it meant to be a man. He was one of the toughest yet most rewarding teachers I've ever had the pleasure of being educated by.

Is this the thread where teachers tell us how hard their jobs are (who knew you'd have to deal with kids, even the idiots?!)....

Is it the one where people like me say enlightened things like, "you only work 6 hours per day, 9 months a year."

Best if done as a decimation. You line up the 10, and have them decide amongst themselves who dies. If they don't kill the 10th, you execute them all.

Worked for the Romans, right?

Too bad it will only work once. If anything, you have to realize kids learn pretty quick. Next time go with a trick hand grenade that will smoke, but will only be a dud. After that use a very sharp knife, and gently place just below the disruptive students eyeball, but you have no intentions of cutting him/her. Maybe keep wild dogs in the class on a leash and threaten to sick them on the naughty students.
