highest-paid executives get smaller packages

Grammar fail. That's have smaller packages.

comcast's service has actually been moderately less offensive that normal over the past 5 months or so.

Having their cable downgraded to basic would probably make up for the salary cut if they had to pay for it in the first place.

/Sure was enjoyable dropping my DVR into that oversized library box Comcast uses for returns.

Your monthly rate is still going up 23%, however.

If any cable company wanted to make money and their customers happy they would do the following: allow customers the opportunity to choose the channels they want to watch, instead of a prepackaged deal.

Not to defend cable companies but a lot of the time the networks are the problem. The big players (ESPN) require their network to be available for all customers. This makes some level of bundling necessary.

In addition to Ytj..j's response (which is very accurate, and ESPN charges a lot for the providers to carry it), the costs to be able to provide a customized lineup for EVERYONE that you provide service to would end up being at least the same as what people pay now per channel (might even be more...).

That said, I'm with you on offering more packages that are in-between the current offerings, or on-demand only packages (hey, not everyone wants cable... just want their favorite shows; why not bundle the ability to get those shows online for their Internet customers?).

I'd pay more for Discovery and AMC if it means I don't have to pay for ESPN or FNC.

Not only that but since one big company owns them all, a cable company can't say no to ESPN being made a part of your cable package without losing the Disney Channel, Starz, and even the local ABC affiliate in the process. It's an incredibly annoying abuse of the power those large companies have.

Weaver95: comcast's service has actually been moderately less offensive that normal over the past 5 months or so.

Verizon was at my house Saturday to update my phone service to FIOS (not that I requested the change). The tech cut my Comcast cable in the process, killing my tv and internet service.

Comcast was out and fixed the problem in less than 2 hours. I didn't even get a call back from verizon until today.

So I'm switching to Comcast phone (and saving quite a bit with the bundling discounts).

I'm not usually one to sing the praises of cable companies, but they stepped up this weekend.

And a $20 credit too.

Comcast wants me to setup automatic billing. Three "errors" in 14 months, all in their favor. Paper works for me.

AT&T cut my DirecTv lines when they had a failed uVerse install (I am 6,000 feet too far into the neighborhood).

You might consider OOMA for your voice line. The box is expensive, but the service is either just the phone taxes or $10 + the phone taxes.

I used to like having physical seperation between internet and phone service for redundancy, but now we have cell service as backup. Also, since firbe (FIOS) phone requires power at the client side, it doesn't even satisfy the reqirement of providing service even when the power goes out.

Good job phone company, making yourself more out-dated than record companies!

We do bill pay through our bank. But when you say "errors" was it double dipping?

my favorite was the insurance fee they provided as a benefit so that if my internet ever stopped working, they would come out to my house for free and fix it.

to which I said, yes, you will come out to my house for free and fix it. but no, i'm not paying for insurance. (i think it was a 'we won't charge you if we send a tech out only to find out you unplugged the ethernet cable' fee).

My favorite part was how it was provided for free for the first 3 months. just about the time when you would stop checking your bill.

That said, that was 4 years ago, and the service has been relatively great. they seem to actually be getting better...

Has a competitor entered your area? Your neighbors may be dumping Comcast and moving over to them, thus improving your bandwidth.

yep. we have fios, so comcast is in heavy competition. but I meant customer service, not bandwidth :)

At least they'll still be able to watch "Axe Men" and "Sons of Guns."

Comcast digital cable of 2012 is DirecTV of 2001, except more clunky.

/Cable box takes minutes to boot up? wtf? What, is it running Windows 98?

I would love to have an ESPN that actually showed sports instead of talking about false controversies.

The only thing I get thru Comcast now is internet service. I cut the cord and got a Roku. The only thing I regret not being able to get is sports through it, but otherwise I has adjusted pretty well to what I have. I still see all the AMC shows (Walking Dead, Mad Men, Breaking Bad), I just pay for those episodes specifically. I still see Archer as well. And now I can stream Netflix and Amazon Prime videos through the Roku as well. My Comcast bill went from $160+ to $61.

And even with all the video streaming I do I still don't come close to my internet cap of 250GB. Although I'm in the minority I'd be happy if consumers sent a message to the cable companies by ditching cable for alternative ways of getting their entertainment.

Similar to me. I went from $150 to $40 a month with Cox. If I could get rid of the $40 I would. Fark cable companies.

That's what I'm in the process of doing with DirecTV. I've already got the Roku running Netflix and Hulu Plus. I've got an antenna on order from Amazon so I can get my local channels. As soon as everything is running good, goodbye DirecTV.

You live in an area with FiOS and you're not using it? I'd love to have some fibery goodness to my house. Right now, for broadband internet, all I have to chose from is AT&T and Time Warner.

we now have this magical technology called batteries. and any telco that installs voip will give you a BBU to go with it. The ones ATT gives out last about 4 hours.

I've never had too much of an issue with Comcast's service, only with their prices.

SuperT: we now have this magical technology called batteries. and any telco that installs voip will give you a BBU to go with it. The ones ATT gives out last about 4 hours.

4 hours ain't quite what I call magical.

My major issues are with communication and customer service. Verizon didn't tell me this upgrade I didn't ask for was going to take up an outlet in my basement (and add to my electricity bill). And when the verizon tech cut my tv/internet coax, comcast was out in 2 hours to fix it. I didn't even get a call back from verizon for 2 days.

dustman81: You live in an area with FiOS and you're not using it? I'd love to have some fibery goodness to my house. Right now, for broadband internet, all I have to chose from is AT&T and Time Warner.

About the only way I consider any verizon home service is if it was free (or less). What does FIOS get you AT&T or Time Warner doesn't?

I have more tv channels than I can watch, at the limit of what my tv can display or I can see, more pr0n than I could watch in a lifetime.

I don't real-time game online or do anything where latency is an issue.

For me the only differentiators are service and price. Verizon costs more and has worse service comcast. COMCAST!

I didn't think I'd see the day when either of those things could be true, that any service could be worse than comcast. Watch out for flying pigs.

Those exist. They're called NFL Network, MLB Network, Big Ten Network, etc.

And they'll still raise the rates. My own bill went up 13% in about a year.
