RodneyToady: Reminds me of this.Africa's big? Yeah yeah yeah!
ZAZ: Cool, but greenlit at least twice, e.g. http://www.fark.com/comments/5702150.
AKTurkey: I never knew it was such a big country
HawgWild: I miss the rains ...
Harry_Seldon: The Sahara is the world's largest hot desert and second largest desert, after Antarctica. At over 9,400,000 square kilometres (3,600,000 sq mi), it covers most of Northern Africa, making it almost as large as China or the United States.
kayanlau: Australia is sad that it wasn't invited to the party.[i0.kym-cdn.com image 280x260]
Lizard_SF: Despite what Sarah Palin seems to think, Africa isn't a country; saying a *continent* is bigger than many *countries* is a rather poor comparison, and it seems to demonstrate the "immappancy" the author is complaining about, rather than countering it. Further, what does land area have to do with anything? Population, productivity, etc, are far more important measures of a country's ability to impact the world, or be impacted by it.
Starry Heavens: How did China (9.60 million km2) get to be bigger than the US (9.63 million km2)?
bbfreak: Starry Heavens: How did China (9.60 million km2) get to be bigger than the US (9.63 million km2)?Depends on which measurements you use. There is some difference in how you tally the size but say you're going by the CIA guidebook then the US is most certainly larger.
RexTalionis: Did you forget about Alaska and Hawaii and the Aleutian Islands?
