Without any actual accomplishments to tout for President Barack Obama

That's as far as I bothered reading.

Given who the GOP is stuck with, I'd say the Dems will do just fine this year.

Yeah. Health care reform. Getting troops home. Getting Osama bin Laden. Those were nothing. Anyone could have done that, but they just never bothered. It's like he's been phoning it in these last four years. WTF?

hubiestubert: Getting Osama bin Laden.

That alone is all he needs.

I can see the debate now.

"Mr President, with the dollar weakening and unemployment still high, what is your plan going forward to put America back to work?"

"Hey, remember that time I killed bin laden?"

Book it, done.

First Sentence: Without any actual accomplishments to tout for President Barack Obama

I'm just going to repost something I wrote last October, because apparently we've gone full circle, yet again, to how Obama doesn't do anything. So here you go:

So today's narrative is that he's a do-nothing president who gets walked on? I've listened to nearly 3 years of how he's "ramming (insert whatever) down our throats" over and over again for every executive order, every cabinet appointment, every decision down to what kind of mustard he puts on his burgers and what kind of office stationary he uses. Whether you like what he's doing or not is another debate, but to say that he hasn't accomplished anything is just ludicrous. Here's a very short list of major things he has done, despite opposition to every single one of these items by the GOP. Here's the first dozen things I can think of, no google searches, no asking a friend for help, just off the top of my head. Whether you like what he's doing or not is the subject for various other debates, but he is getting shiat done. To say he can't get anything done is absurd and makes you look like a fool.

1) Appointed two SCOTUS justices. Both pro-choice, both pro-feminine rights, both pro-civil rights.
2) Gave order to raid OBL's hideout, successfully killing him, with no American casualties. This mission, although much more risky, was chosen instead of using a drone strike. The result of this was that our military gathered untold amounts of info that has led to other terrorist leaders turning themselves in or being killed. Somehow this was met with GOP opposition after the fact. Of all things, you would think killing OBL wouldn't be met with opposition, but there you have it.
3) Pushed through the largest health care reform in the history of this country. This included such things as eliminating the pre-existing condition bullshiat that is commonly used by insurance companies to screw customers over. For example, I had to fight my insurance company for payment when I broke my arm because they claimed it was a "pre-existing condition." I had been using that provider for over 3 years when this injury occurred.
4) Put a stop to federal courts enforcing the DOMA.
5) Ended DADT.
6) Worked with NATO and the UN to oust a brutal dictator in Libya, but didn't get sucked into a full scale invasion of a country referred to as "the graveyard of empires" like his predecessor.
7) Has increased investment in green energy R&D projects, and has increased spending on infrastructure projects.
8) Pushed through an $800 billion economic stimulus package.
9) Came to agreement with Switzerland's government and major banks to allow US government access to records of known U.S. tax evaders and organized crime members.
10) Expanded vaccination programs.
11) Expanded the CHIP program to provide 4 million more children in the U.S. with access to health care.
12) Instituted policy that expenses are paid for families of fallen U.S. military personnel to travel to Dover AFB to be present when their loved one's body arrives. This wasn't a guarantee under Bush.

Don't Troll Me Bro!: 9) Came to agreement with Switzerland's government and major banks to allow US government access to records of known U.S. tax evaders and organized crime members.

The tax issue is the Obama's real crime in the minds of those with real cash in this country. Not abortion. Not adoption. Not gays in the military or marriage equality, but taxes.

The TEA Party was organized with that as their headline, and while they have been given their head to go all Derptastic in the media, ultimately, they are there to drum up support of a whole raft of ideas that keep the feeding trough open. That most of the TEA Party folks would benefit from a revision in the tax code to ease the burden on the middle class, and the regressive system of sales taxes that shift the burden further to the poorest sectors--all while slashing benefits and assistance that would benefit their communities and the businesses in them--and naught else.

They have become a catch basin for the craziest of ideas, but their continued support of regressive and even idiotic tax schemes that are designed to concentrate wealth at the top further can't be ignored. It is about keeping populist support that will continue to drain cash from communities, and send it out fo system. That a fair amount gets squirrelled away in odd accounts overseas, or to investments that will never see any return in the US doesn't matter--for these folks it is the "principle" which eludes them save in a sort of jingoistic banner waving that invokes apple pie, FREEEEEDOM! and knocking out the Kaiser, the dirty Commies, and the mud people.

Give the folks who put these things together some credit: they saw an opportunity to get the folks they have been actively screwing for years in line to give them unwavering support and call it "patriotic" to bend over to get another rogering...

An old Scot and a young Scot were sitting in the pub talking. The old man says to the young man; "Son, look out the window. You see that stone fence stretchin' out 'cross the moor as far as yer eye can see? Well I built that fence with me own two hands. But, do they call me MacGregor the fence builder? Nooooo."

Expect a lot more of these articles since the right is going to have a hard time with the "accomplishments" Mittens has:

Government Experience:

Created the Blueprint for Obama care
Signed the First Assault gun ban
Raised taxes on both individuals and Corporations
Lead Massachusetts to a enviable #47 spot in job creation

As an Executive:

Took Healthy low debt Companies and applied Parasitic Capitalism to them
Leveraged their borrowing saddling them with enormous debt while pulling that money out in the name of Management Fees or "corporate" repayment
Caused these Formerly healthy Countries to go bankrupt causing thousands of jobs to be lost
Purposely shorted pension plans so that when the company did go bankrupt the Pension Guaranty fund had to cover the shortage - 41 million dollars of tax payer money

His Claim of Job creation as companies such as Staples only occurred because Bain was only a minority investor and had no control over the company, This is like BofA claiming that they created the jobs at every business they have given overdraft protection to.

Again how is Mitt Better than Obama?

Has he heard Romney's record?

The rest get taxes and fees up the ass.

Do you send a funeral wreath and an email full or remorse and condolences every time the US military take out an Al Qaeda target in a country hostile to American interests or just when they happen to hold citizenship papers?

You can really see how far the goalposts have moved.

A six to three liberal Supreme Court, passing rulings that range from mandating same sex marriage to suppressing religious speech as being "discriminatory." Private gun ownership is also effectively banned as is home schooling.

Iraq has been taken over by Al Qaeda and is now a butcher shop. There have been at least two mass casualty terrorist attacks in the United States. Russia has reoccupied much of the old Soviet Empire. Hugo Chavez style radicalism is sweeping Latin America. Tel Aviv is now a smoking ruin thanks to an Iranian nuclear strike.

Effectively a Canadian style national health care system has taken over, with the resulting rationing and decline in the quality of health care. Assisted suicide is practically mandatory for people over eighty as the government can't afford to give them health care.

Taxes are at confiscatory levels Spending is out of control. Energy prices are soaring (seven dollar gas anyone?) Unions are using the new "card check" system to force workers to join.

The reinstitution of the Fairness Doctrine has shut down conservative talk radio. Pressure groups have forced big book chains to remove "hate filled" Christian books.

It's like some weird mesh between a Republican wet dream and a nightmare.

whatsupchuck: Here's a commentary by the same guy from 2008, with some predictions on what things will be like under Obama in 2012.

Letter from 2012 in Obama's America

You can really see how far the goalposts have moved.

From the "Letter":
(2) Elementary schools: "The land of the free"? Elementary schools now include compulsory training in varieties of gender identity in Grade 1, including the goodness of homosexuality as one possible personal choice.

The Freedom of Choice Act also reversed the Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act of 2003, so infants can be killed outright just seconds before they would be born.

The great benefit is that medical care is now free for everyone -- if you can get it. Now that health care is free, it seems everybody wants more of it. The waiting list for prostate cancer surgery is 3 years. The waiting list for ovarian cancer is 2 years.

Gas costs more than $7 per gallon, and many Democrats openly applaud this, since high prices reduce oil consumption and thus reduce carbon dioxide output.

As a result, all radio stations have to provide equal time to contrasting views for every political or policy-related program they broadcast by talk show hosts like Rush Limbaugh, Laura Ingraham, Sean Hannity, Dennis Prager, Janet Parshall, Michael Medved and Hugh Hewitt, and broadcasters like Dr. James Dobson. Every conservative talk show is followed by an instant rebuttal to the program by a liberal "watchdog" group.

In his first week in office, Obama followed President Clinton's precedent and fired all 93 U.S. attorneys, replacing them with his own appointments, including the most active members of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). President Obama argued this was not a selective political action like what President Bush had done, because Obama had fired all of them, conservatives and liberals alike.

In order to facilitate these proceedings, President Obama rescinded President Bush's executive order that had prevented presidential papers from being released, and millions of pages of previously secret White House papers were posted on
the Internet. ACLU attorneys have spent four years poring over these papers looking for possible violations of law.Dozens of Bush officials, from the Cabinet level on down, are in jail, and most of them are also bankrupt from legal costs.

So, to sum up:

Obama has accomplished a lot, including expanding George W. Bush's warrantless domestic surveillance program. Not everything he does is positive. The key part of the phrase "lesser of the two evils" is "two evils." Between Romney and Obama, yes, Obama is the lesser of two evils -- but I am guaranteeing you right here and now that none of us will ever live to see the day that we have committed civil libertarians in all branches of the American government.

The reason that the bulk of the US doesn't think the same is due to US network propaganda.

If Obama had an identical record, but was a Republican (and white), the US media machine would be demanding he was carved on Mount Rushmore.

nekom: "Mr President, with the dollar weakening..."

I realize you aren't making it, so the comment to follow isn't directed at you, but this argument right here is something of a pet-peeve of mine.

Right now, a weak US dollar is a good US dollar. Why? Because our real unemployment rate is in the mid teens, that's why. A weak dollar means more exports which means more jobs. A weak dollar doesn't hurt most citizens because we aren't seeing any price inflation. It doesn't hurt poor people because income support is adjusted in real terms. It is sort of a hassle for people who travel, but due to the economy, the only people traveling a great deal are folks who really don't worry much about their spending. A slow weakening of the dollar right now is a good thing; causing it is one of the reasons why we've been keeping interest rates so low. It will mean a transfer of debt away from the US, and it will bolster our rather anemic recovery.

Look at Japan; their fundamentals have been solid for 10 years, and while their economy hasn't been as terrible as many people think it has, one of the major stumbling blocks during its recover has been (and continues to be) the yen's stubbornly mighty buying power. That the dollar is slipping a bit means we might not need to worry about a similar situation here.

Sarah Palin, besides being the most powerful female politician on the planet, has been the inspiration for art.

April 22 is Earth Day, the annual bacchanalia of self abuse invented by the environmental movement to remind everyone that the human race is a pestilence upon this planet.

A group of liberal law makers, including House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, are proposing to alter the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution to remove the right to free speech from corporations, according to the Daily Caller.

Whether he is reelected or not, President Obama has set a ticking time bomb for the American economy that is due to explode on Jan 1, 2013.

I won't be voting FOR Obama so much as voting AGAINST Romney, mainly because Obama is a freaking Republican conservative in everything but name.

I'm horrified that such a huge percentage of Americans buy into the right-wing lies that Obama is some kind of ultra liberal socialist. Any objective look at the guy's record just screams the opposite. Hell, even his health care act was stolen from the plan the Republicans put up to counter Clinton's reform efforts back in the 90's.

Yeah, health care reform that's illegal, SAID he got bin Laden (with no proof), unemployment TWICE what it was under Bush (remember, this is OBAMA's economy now--not something he "inherited"), a national debt grown more in three years under Obama than the eight under Bush, pushing our oil and coal industries towards bankruptcy, yeah, he's got a REAL record to run on. Correction: he's got NO record to run on. I think the Repubs are going to run away with this one.

If Obama has not done anything that merits four more years and if Romney is not convincingly the anti-Christ, what is there left?

Is this how conservatives really view the election? Obama supporters seeing Romney as the antichrist? If Romney was the antichrist he would have extremely strong support from the Republican christian base as they could finally usher in the Armageddon they fantasize about instead of the lukewarm support he gets.

Anyway, Obama supporters may not necessarily be thrilled with him but don't mistake that as willingness to see Romney in the oval office. If he got in teapartiers would be going on about anchor baby and terrorist baby federal legislation and God knows what else to the president's desk.

The $5 Trillion Man: Debt Has Increased Under Obama by $5,027,761,476,484.56

President Barack Obama, Timothy Geithner

(CNSNews.com)- In the 39 months since Barack Obama took the oath of office as president of the United States, the federal government's debt has increased by $5,027,761,476,484.56.

Although he has served less than a term, Obama is now the first American president to see the federal government's debt increase by more than $5 trillion during his time in office.

During the full eight years that George W. Bush served as president, the federal government's debt increased by $4,899,100,310,608.44. (Rising from $5,727,776,738,304.64 to $10,626,877,048,913.08.)

The $5,027,761,476,484.56 that the debt has increased during Obama's presidency equals $16,043.39 for every one of the 313,385,295 people the Census Bureau now estimates live in the United States.

At the close of business on Jan. 20, 2009, the day Obama was inaugurated, the federal government's debt was $10,626,877,048,913.08, according to the U.S. Treasury. By the close of business on April 16, 2012-as many Americans were working to finalize their 2011 tax returns to meet an April 17 filing deadline-the debt had reached $15,654,638,525,397.64.

The $5,027,761,476,484.56 in additional debt that the U.S. government has taken on during the 39 months that Obama has been president is more debt than the federal government accumulated in the first 219 years of the Republic.

The total federal debt did not exceed $5,027,761,476,484.56 until March 14, 1996, when President Bill Clinton was in the last year of his first term in office. On that day, the national debt rose from $5,025,887,531,178.79 to 5,035,165,720,616.33.

Sabyen91: "Integrity is for paupers"

In 1992, shortly after being named moderator of Meet The Press, Tim Russert was having lunch with a broadcast executive. The mealtime conversation was about the pros and cons of working for General Electric's NBC subsidiary. Russert expounded on how being employed by GE had brought him to the realization that things functioned better when Republicans were in charge.

"You know, Tim, you used to be such a rabid Democrat when you worked for Pat Moynihan," said the executive. "But now that you've gotten a glimpse of who's handing out the money in this business, you've become quite the Jaycee. Were you wrong about everything you used to believe so strongly?"

"I still believe," Russert said, leaning across the table. "I believe in everything I ever did. But I also know that I never would have become moderator on Meet The Press if my employers were uncomfortable with me. And, given the amount of money at stake, millions of dollars, I don't blame them. This is business."

The executive agreed. "But are you concerned about losing yourself? You know, selling out?"

Russert pounded the table. "Integrity is for paupers!"

Sad story, Bro.

So you don't believe the Commander in Chief of the armed forces had any say in how the mission went? Because that would make you a complete idiot. Obama made the decision to send in the SEAL team rather than the drone strike. VERY high risk, but very high reward; with a drone strike, we wouldn't have the intel we got from Osama's files. If the SEAL mission went to shiat (as it very well could have), we wouldn't have the intel, we'd have dead SEALs, Osama'd be alive, and relations with Pakistan would've been even worse, since we'd have no proof that Osama HAD been there. Politically, the mission failing would've been suicide; it would've legitimized the Right Wing's 'Carter 2.0' meme.

Obama took the risk. If the mission had failed, there is no doubt in anyone's mind that the Republicans would've blamed it on him. Why, then, does he not get credit for its success?

You know, I think that Yahoo! might work something like Fark's Political Indicator Thingy in that mods green the derpiest headlines that don't necessarily agree with their political beliefs, and the more sane ones that do, thereby creating "balance". This guy, whose moronic and inconsistent ramblings would be dismissed by anyone who can spell their political signs correctly, represents the "voice of the right" on Yahoo!, oblivious to the fact that his musings are dismissively nonsensical to all with an IQ above room temperature.

His otherwise inexplicable presence on a site at least pretending to be a source of "journalism" means they can claim "balance" in their political leanings, while making any otherwise rational person who believes that someone other than Obama should lead the country appear as if they must identify with this foolishness.

I guess a better example would be BET offering "This Week With David Duke" Sunday nights at 2:00 AM.

Classic example of this principle: we tend to forget that the United States of America would likely never have existed, that the American Revolution would've almost certainly have been defeated early on even before the Declaration was signed, had it not been for Benedict Arnold.

The day after Osama's death, the right wingers in my office were ranting the whole day over Obama's arrogance of taking credit, counting the number of times he said me/my/we/etc in the speech, etc etc. They repeated the claim multiple times that he didn't deserve one bit of credit, that the raid would have been launched even over his saying no, etc etc.

When I asked if every single sailor/airmen on the raid died, would that mean Obama wouldn't have any of the blame for it, it just pissed them off more.

It's really sad and pathetic the state of American politics and what the Republicans have done to it, that they driven their supporters to the point that they hate Obama more then Osama bin Laden.

But other sides are bad! Or something.

President Barack Obama, Timothy Geithner

President Obama shakes hands with Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner at the State of the Union Address, Jan. 25, 2012. (AP Photo)

(CNSNews.com)- In the 39 months since Barack Obama took the oath of office as president of the United States, the federal government's debt has increased by $5,027,761,476,484.56.

Despite clear facts, you're likely to receive one of the following responses

1. That's a right wing talking point
2. That is Bush's debt carried over
3. Cheney said deficits dont matter
4. *insert n/10 troll rating*

Heron: A weak dollar doesn't hurt most citizens because we aren't seeing any price inflation. It will mean a transfer of debt away from the US, and it will bolster our rather anemic recovery

Is it possible once, just once for an armchair Keynesian economist to admit that they dont know anything about economics?

A weak dollar leads to expensive oil which raises the price of everything. If you think stagnant wages suck it is compounded by a rise in prices

7th Cavalry didn't exist until after the war. Custer brought them lots of glamour as well. Nothing like having a certified war hero leading the fight against boredom on the plains.

They drank alot though,. All except Custer. The rest drank whiskey like it was going out of style. And yes, Custer was a Democrat with ambitions for office had he survived the Little Big Horn. To be honest, this idiot's comparison isn't exactly a bad thing, because Custer really was decent at what he did until the end. He kinds farked that one up.

History can be a biatch, we do not always remember the good/great things done by a person.

Nooooo."

"Now ya take a look up at the bar. See the perfectly constructed thing of beauty stretchin' across this great hall? Well, I built that bar with me own two hands. But, do they call me MacGregor the bar builder? Noooo."

"Now take a look toward the sea. Do you see that magnificent pier, sturdy and straight, unmoving againt the sea and all her wrath? Well, I built that pier with me own two hands. But, do they call me MacGregor the pier builder? Noooo."

Then MacGregor leans in close to the young man and whispers....

"But ya fark one goat..."

Isaac Asimov used to tell a version of that joke in an urban setting and end it with "But I suck just one cock..."

I hadn't heard of the Asimov variation of that joke before; the existence of this otherwise useless thread (really, the GOP is still trying to sell the "Obama hasn't done anything" narrative?) has now been justified.

That article debunks a comment Romney made about Obama increasing the debt more than all other presidents combined. Anyone with a 2nd grade knowledge of math knows that he started with 10Tn, there's 5Tn now and that 10>5.

On day 1, Obama started with appx 10Tn in debt and there's almost $16Tn today. Even if you dont even count 2009 since that is Bush's budget, you'll still have to add Obama's budget for the first year of the next president's term.

In other words, Obama's budgetary responsibility for his first term should extend from 1 Jan 2010 to 31 Dec 2013 and at a proposed deficit of about $1.3Tn/yr x 4 years still is round about $5-6Tn

All of this talk about deficit reduction is pretty laughable, since Republicans can't talk about tax increases without committing political suicide within their own party.

Once they're able to get serious about tackling the deficit from both sides of the equation, you get back to us on that.

Except oil prices are rising globally, meaning it's a market issue not a US price issue. Or do you seriously think that a weak dollar rises the price of oil in Euros? But hey; you let ideological prejudice determine your economic opinions instead of looking at the numbers, or reading the actual work of the economists you trash, so obviously you know more about this than I do.

2012-04-23 04:53:28 PM

Heron: Except oil prices are rising globally, meaning it's a market issue not a US price issue.

It is when the dollar is the world reserve currency by which each global commodity exchange bases its prices.

A Honus Wagner baseball card just sold for $1.2M. It is perhaps the rarest and most valuable sports card the world has ever known. If I came across a warehouse that had 100,000 Wagner cards and brought them to market, I could not then turn around and demand $1.2M for each of them. Right now, I can go to an oil baron and but a bbl of crude for something like $110 USD. If I go ahead and print $3Tn more dollars, he's going to want more of them or is going to give me less oil for the same price because of the reduced purchasing power. This is the consequence of the "weak dollar"

I've read Keynes. You can debate all day long about the merits and shortcomings of the General Theory but one thing that he argued against which you bootlickers still havent caught onto is that of a state plummeting interest rates and printing its way out of structural debt and deficit.

Lando Lincoln: All of this talk about deficit reduction is pretty laughable, since Republicans can't talk about tax increases without committing political suicide within their own party.

Once they're able to get serious about tackling the deficit from both sides of the equation, you get back to us on that.

The president's own tax policy would generate $40bn against a projected 10 year deficit of $13,000Bn

Thats 4/1300
Thats 1/325
Thats less than %0.3 of the deficit

I'm ready for the citation.

Good.

The White House and Senate Democrats are embarking on another big push to sell the Buffett Rule. The Joint Committee on Taxation says the proposal will bring in $47 billion over 10 years.

Great, thanks. Now bold the part of the quote where it says the bit about holding us back from fiscal solvency. All I see is a bunch of statements you yourself were writing earlier about this proposal will bring in $47 Billion dollars. Nothing about the fiscal solvency.

(CNSNews.com)- In the 39 months since Barack Obama took the oath of office as president of the United States, the federal government's debt has increased by $5,027,761,476,484.56.

Despite clear facts, you're likely to receive one of the following responses

1. That's a right wing talking point
2. That is Bush's debt carried over
3. Cheney said deficits dont matter

Merely mentioning possible responses does not actually refute them. Please explain in detail why each of those is flatly not true.

1. Are you honestly denying that that is indeed a right-wing talking point?

2. Do you deny that Bush kept the spending for two wars off of the books, which Obama put back on, causing the debt under him to appear to sharply rise when in fact what really happened was that prior debt was suddenly revealed to exist? There was indeed some rise under Obama, but nowhere near as much as under Bush (who really did borrow more from foreign governments in just his first term [not counting any of FY2009, 2008, 2007, nor 2006] than all prior presidents combined!).

3. Do you deny that Cheney said that? What he actually said was that Reagan proved that deficits don't matter. Are you now denying Reagan?
