Because he's doing shiat like Meet Dave, Epic Movie, Superhero Movie, and Extreme Movie?

I think Kevin Hart is a funny guy, but he needs to start choosing better films.

He's in those films? Well then.

The guy's stand up act is freaking funny. I don't care if he acts in crappy movies to supplement his income.

I don't care what anyone says, B.C. is not funny.

Ohhhhhhh, yes.

He's confirmed for Scary Movie 5 as well, so... yeah.

Hard to say. Kevin Hart is funny, I've enjoyed his specials but when people ask me to name good comics I never think about him. I have to be reminded about him. It actually surprises me more that Gabriel Iglesias isn't more popular. Hart's material could make some people uncomfortable cause of the screwed up family overtones and some people just can't handle those topics, funny or not. But Iglesias has universal appeal cause it's just him being a dork and laughing at funny situations, kinda like the guy at the party that knows how to tell funny stories. I wish both of them great success though.

I had never heard of him before he was on WTF.

2012-04-22 12:40:44 PM
Oh, he's black.

2012-04-22 12:44:59 PM
He should instead be called Tyler Perry's Kevin Hart. That'll make him famous.

With a very white guy name. It is not a good combination.

"Women be shoppin'!"

/just kidding, never heard his act
//don't make fun of comedians not being well known too much, they'll off themself like Greg Giraldo
///he was the best part of those Comedy Central Roasts

Has Denis Leary stolen his schtick? I hear you're not really famous till then.

I didn't realize he was only 31. It seems like he's been around for a while.

He did have a very good cameo in 40 Year Old Virgin.

His standup is freaking awesome. As Letter Opener said, it's a shame he's in such horrible movies.

Just listened to one of his bits on youtube. It was about beating his daughter. What a shock.

Bill Cosby did about 15 min on child beating I think it was on "himself"

I watched one of his specials on netflix. I believe that most of his humour is specific to his cultural and ethnic roots, and doesn't translate well outside of that.

Already been covered in this thread
A) He's a great standup
B) Whoever the heck picks his movies need to be shot or he needs to let someone pick for him (if he thinks these are good ideas). At least if you are picking bad movies for supplemental income, let them buy you a Michael Caine sized house

Good to see him get a #1, maybe that will open some legit doors for him now.

I find it interesting that every since Eddie Murphy's RAW, every single black comic MUST, simply MUST wear leather during their big comedy special. I would love to see someone break the mold, and just go up there in tweed. Prior to Murphy, you had Pryor in a sports coat, or Cosby in a suit and tie... but everyone after Murphy is leather.

What he needs is a starring role vehicle.

He *needs* his own 48 Hrs.

Exactamundo.

I don't know if this movie will get things really rolling for him, but it's a step in the right direction.

YIKES

If I forgot about that, trust me, it was purely intentional.

my opinion is that he panders (Soul Plane, BET's House Husbands) to his core demographic a little too often.

there is nothing wrong with that, but that is almost always a recipe for "successful, but not famous" for comedians. Especially minority comedians. Its the same thing with Whitney Cummings and Chelsea Handler. They might be the most successful female comedians, but the whole "naked men and penises look weird... so I had my period the other day..." crutch really limits what people will allow themselves to think about their comedy.

Oh yeah, the asinine parody of a superior parody. This is perhaps the first and only time I was deeply ashamed of being a Snoop Dogg fan.

I'll say it, black entertainment is preachy and cliched. And there's nothing racist about that. Black culture is still pushing stereotypes that other folk can't really respond to. Outside of gangster films or action films - New Jack City, Dead Presidents, any of Denzel Washington's more afro-centric movies, etc...; African American entertainment comes off as preachy and over-wraught as a Lifetime Movie. It's amateurish. Also "black" entertainment is a niche product marketed specifically for black people with material that a larger portion of the population just can't identify with.

Gay entertainment made specifically for gay people in the 90's had the same issue.

And in my opinion Kat Williams is hilarious. Kevin Hart, not so much.

And try as I might I can't understand why people think Paul Mooney's funny. I think he's being ironic, but there's no wit there.

Yep. We have a black president, but god forbid we have a famous black comedian. Maybe one day we'll have a black comedian reach the status of a Richard Pryor, Eddie Murphy, or Chris Rock.

What's funny about this is when talking about uniting black and white audiences, all the comedians mentioned are black. Can a white comedian not accomplish this?

No, because Zucker's movies still make money.

I mean, they don't have to be all 100mm blockbusters. The main reason why the studio churned all those movies out was because they were cheap to make and made money.
