RminusQ: thoughtpol: yeah, as i read the article about the Torres suspension, i wondered: if the refs can review video of potential goals, and if video evidence is what Shanny bases his suspensions on, why can't the refs review the video of the hit (say, due to a coach's appeal or something) and when they see him hit way late and leave his feet, throw him out of the game? i get why replay for penalties is bad - if you want, put in a clause that no matter the result, penalty minutes won't be handed out - but for a hit like this i think it would be in the interest of EVERYONE's safety to eject him immediately.

I was thinking that too in terms of a between-period review, and then the ref (or Toronto for that matter) comes back at the start fo the next period and says "Game misconduct, you're gone."

Sounds like what you want is a Super Rugby-style white card. Link

That was an awsome last minute of the period.

2012-04-21 03:58:01 PM
So...getting Sasha in a headlock ain't a penalty anymore? Or "riding horsie" on Chimera...again...

Was that arena staffer fighting off fans with that plexiglas jawn?

Good first period, chances going both ways, some good saves, and Washington worked hard on that penalty kill. God I farking love playoffs!!

As a Sharks fan I feel like I'm on death row counting down my final hours.

Silvara: We've made the pucks today out of super ball rubber, let's see if anyone notices.

We tried playing for a practice with one of the thin-rubber, ball-roller, orange street-hockey pucks. Would not slide and bounced while handling, changed direction wildly off of the boards, and frankly hurt more than a regular puck. Liquid-filled street-hockey balls, however, are awesome.

That was pretty much a perfect period of hockey, even a bit of testiness without thuggery.

Hope Chara is ok.

LOL, sure looked like it. And it hurt Chara?

I don't understand what happened there. And of course NBC doesn't show us.

You would rather they play with the Bridgestone puck?

Rewound it, Chara dove like an Italian soccer player.

Frozen_Puck: LOL, sure looked like it. And it hurt Chara?

Yeah, no idea. Maybe he just got dizzy from the air difference from the elevation of where his head usually is and down at the ice.

Snert. Well, it would be entertaining.

Hat Blasting.

Guess that can count as intermission entertainment.

CBC showed another angle where Chimera gave him a bit of an elbow to the back of the head getting up.

CBC seems to agree, they think he dove. They showed something interesting that happened in the pre-game warmup where that Cap fell down and almost ran into Chara, he looked angry.

Ugh...another scoreless period.

SCORE A FARKING GOAL B's!!!!

Man, there is no denying that Dale Hunter completely resembles the dick head he was when he was a player.

2012-04-21 04:08:31 PM
Chara had a huge hit on Chimera and pretty much held him down. Chimera eventually got frustrated and elbowed Chara's head into the boards. It didn't look like a very violent elbow and Chara seemed to go down easily. The two things that worry me is it looked like Chara's leg was twitching while he was down and when he got up he just sort of stood there while time ran out.

Why isn't Don Cherry around more? You would think that CBC would pull him out of storage for more than one segment when the goddamn playoffs are going on.

2012-04-21 04:10:14 PM
Geez, I had no idea the hockey was on at 3 today (since I planned to be out until now) - sounds like an OK first period. Go... Bruins? God this is hard.

Cause he is 78 years old and can't handle more than a game a day haha.

Go caps or something!

I think I'm gonna go back to school to be a sports tv director. I get irritated with some of these simple mistakes they make in choosing which camera to show and why.

tonguedepressor: Man, there is no denying that Dale Hunter completely resembles the dick head he was when he was a player.

I wasn't watching hockey back in 1993, so I didn't even know about his incident until this week. I almost feel dirty rooting for the Caps now, but as a Habs fan I certainly can't root for the B's.

/May have to root against the Caps if they pull off this upset though cause Dale Hunter is definitely a dick!

I hadn't noticed the leg twitching but he definitely looked disoriented when he got up and I noticed he didn't really get back into the play either.
