What's next. Justin Bieber as Paul Robeson?

Gawd I hope not!

JosephFinn: Look, you can hate Love Actually. I understand that. But if you don't miss up just a bit at the use of Mitchell's "Both Sides Now" and Emma Thompson's performance in that scene, well, I don't know what to tell you.

Glad I'm not the only one - I lose my shiat every time I see that. Husband thinks it's a little funny, because for the most part I am not one to cry during movies......

But as for Swift, she goes all scrunchy mcscrunchy face more often than the queen of scrunchy faces Renee Zellweger herself. Don't quite recall Joni doing much scrunching.

Magorn: jaytkay: Taylor Swift as Joni Mitchell?

What's next. Justin Bieber as Paul Robeson?

I hear Chris Tucker is in contention for the Robeson bio-pic 'cause Hollywood execs think the whole civil rights advocacy/communism thing will test poorly and so they are thinking of making it more of a buddy comedy-with a talking dog

Justin as Bryan Ferry FTW!

FirstNationalBastard: Mugato: The Twilight Generation, really? Is the media so desperate to categorize generations that they're turning to hacky movie franchises that no one will remember in 5 years?

Shut up, old man! You're just jealous because you're a member of the Howard the Duck generation!

Like hell. I'm a member of the generation that brought you Led Zeppelin, Aeorosmith, Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones, and all the other really cool bands. You brought us Nickelback. You should have been drowned at birth.

If you want to go by looks alone, to be fair you need to use a photo of Mitchell in her 20s and take away Swift's 5 pounds of makeup

Swift is a tall, thin, ethereally pretty blonde, and if she can act, she can do it.
But the singing has to be synched over real JM tracks. No way that squeeky voiced little prom singer could even come close.

Maybe she'll do it. But why would she want to? Dried up old hippes are best left passed out by the Woodstock stage where they belong. The sooner 60-70's music dies, the better.

Shameless age check here ...

Songs that I know from this list: 18
Songs from this list that are farking awesome tunes that still hold up today: 9

Sure, there's a lot of cheese in this list, but try to tell me that one quarter of this week's Billboard Top 40 will still sound great in forty years. The vinyl era was the high-water mark for American popular music.

/Plus, you could roll your doobies on the album covers
//And everybody was swingin', if you know what I mean

Also:
40: REELIN' AND ROCKIN' - CHUCK BERRY (maybe not really fair, since it originally charted in the 50's, but still one of the all-time great rock-n-roll songs)
27: PAPA WAS A ROLLIN' STONE - THE TEMPTATIONS
26: TROUBLE MAN - MARVIN GAYE
9: SUPERFLY - CURTIS MAYFIELD
3: ME AND MRS. JONES - BILLY PAUL

'twas a great, and still under-appreciated, era for R&B

I didn't realize my introduction to Joni Mitchell came courtesy of "The Wonder Years." I just knew that one of the songs at the end of one of the episodes kept sounding like it was going to be "Jingle Bells," but then it veered into something else.
Fast forward however many years and re-hearing it on a Joni MItchell CD.

Fast forward a few more years and actually getting how/why to listen to Joni Mitchell.

Taylor Swift lead vocal in a Led Zeppelin tribute band.

/Why the hell not?
//What the hell is a Taylor Swift? Is it like a Justin Beiber?
