At first I was pissed off and slightly mortified, but then I realized that like all things on the internet, MLP will eventually fall and life will be okay again. It's sort of like when Bush was in office. It was bad, but you knew it would eventually end.

I presume the lesson was that weddings are evil.

Also, DJ Pon-3 at the end made the episode at least 20% cooler.

The ending of MLP made much more sense than anything Marvel has come up with since Jim Shooter ran the company.

Well, there are probably only 13 new episodes left before Hasbro ends the show for good. But that doesn't mean pony memes will go away. I mean, look at HAHA guy... he's still around years after the grey wave.

Nah, they are starting production for season 3 soon, and some of the official people going to EFNW say that they are able to go because its right smack in the middle of a production break - so that prolly means 24 episodes at least.

Yeah, but considering the first 13 will take the show to the magic syndication number of 65, and since the show is for kids, it wouldn't surprise me if the 13 episodes already ordered are the final 13.

Kids shows are notorious for 65 episodes and out, since the companies can rerun those 65 episodes into the ground because, hey, the show is for kids and they won't notice. Plus, it isn't like Hasbro is bothering with DVD revenue for complete series sets marketed toward the older fans.

Another full season would be nice, but with kids TV, I don't see anything new after 65 episodes are completed.

Seriously, though. Should I watch this? i have no problems watching kids shows if they're good. But does this pay off? I watched 5 minutes of the first episode on netflix, but my wife and I didn't get it. I know first episodes are usually not the best, but should I give it a chance, or is the some big joke I missed because I'm a law student and don't get to watch much TV anymore.

The first episode is more of a setup for the series than anything, and has little to do with the way the rest of the episodes are structured.

Honestly, you can start anywhere and not be lost. Look for an episode description that sounds interesting and go for it.

Best intro episodes from Season 1 would be, in my opinion
- Ticket Master
- Dragon Shy
- Bridle Gossip
- Cutie Mark Chronicles

Other really good season 1 episodes but more focal on a single character are
- Winter Wrap Up
- Sonic Rainboom
- Dog and Pony Show
- Party of One

Season 2 upped the ante in character development and references for the adult audience, not to mention they made Rarity much more likeable, a character that could pass for a villain in just about any other show. In fact, Rarity became my favorite character of the series, that allowed me to enjoy her season 1 episodes much more better.

That math doesn't quite work here - Mostly because of the Bronies and it's unique position as the driving show on The Hub

Dont think of MLP As a typical kids show - Think of it as the ultimate in loss leaders. Right now, the show possesses a massive fanbase not just backed by the parental dollar of little girls, but by the dollars of the 18-35 demographic - No sane company is going to make a financial move that could potentially piss off half of that fanbase.

Hasbro knows - I am willing to bet anything - that they have a unique gold mine on their hands here. So long as they see some profit every year from the merchandising and viewers, they'll keep the show running and use IT to front-end any other cartoon shows / products / etc. So long as the fanbase keeps spending money - and lets be honest, they'll keep inventing villians and adding characters and the bronies will BUY THEM IN DROVES - This show's got legs, if you'll pardon my hoof.

You can see it in all the massive nods to the community - Sure, the average 9 year old girl doesnt give a darn about the DJ Pony or the wierd green one - but I guarantee there will be calls for Vinyl Scratch and Lyra and so on mini ponies and toys and so on before you can say "Herpa Derpa Doo" - Hasbro, and by extension the studio who makes the cartoon - Knows who the real money is coming from. They also know they wont be happy with JUST 65 episodes.

Now, Four or five full seasons? I could see that, unless the Hub decides to front end the cost to keep the network running. In that case, all bets are off.

My four year old loves that show. It's one of the few girly things she is into. As far as I'm concerned it is one of the least annoying things she can want to watch while I'm in the room, so it's not terrible.

Because between oldschool pony fans pissed off at the influx of new fans and their unofficial mascot, fanficers who are pissed off that their fanfic didn't become canon, and the occasional PC Thug, "Derpy" became offensive.
