Even acknowledging that this was done by the state DOJ and not Walker himself, the fact that he reinstated these bonuses while complaining the state deficit is ridiculous.

The religious usually claim the ability to discern the difference between good and evil based on their faith, so why aren't they condemning this guy as the ridiculous cackling super villain that he is? He doesn't even try to hide it: his motives are basically the same as any dark lord.

This guy must have one hell of a setup post politics. He is willingly taking a flame thrower to his current political career.

"It makes no sense to continually hire and train staff to lose them to higher paying employers just when they become productive. I've taken these actions to ensure we can remain reliable to law enforcement and our clients while not wasting taxpayer money."

How can you talk out of your ass while your head is up it?

ALEC membership has its privileges, such as being able to fake budget deficits and generally farking over the constituency.

I must be missing something here, but I'm having trouble finding a problem with giving bonuses to retain people like DNA analysts.

Someone help me out?

The problem is that the raises are going to Walker-friendly staff.

There is nothing wrong with it. Here in Madison there are quite a few biotech and research firms, and if these state employees did not get paid they would indeed be gone.

Plenty of things to hate Walker for; this ain't one of them.

"Later asked about the bonuses at a ribbon cutting, Walker said he doesn't have control over how another elected official like Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen allocates merit pay, Galli reported."

Subby fail.

You don't see the problem with cutting state worker pay everywhere else but giving the DOJ raises when he is under investigation by the very same DOJ?

Smells fishy to me.

John Nash: Plenty of things to hate Walker for; this ain't one of them.

Except for when it is one of the things that deserves it. These are the kind of people, regardless of competence, that are least likely to oppose Walker. He takes out the cuts and legal firepower on the ALEC-sanctioned target while providing a safe haven for people that do not generally stand with his opposition.

Galli is a TV reporter. Did you mean Van Hollen?

The thing that's stupid about this is this guy keeps whining about teachers being overpaid and yet he doesn't mind giving DNA analysts, attorneys, paralegals, and etc. a nice hefty bonus.

The guy is a tool plain and simple.

Subby fail.

In 2008, former Gov. Jim Doyle rescinded merit pay for state employees. But Gov. Scott Walker reinstated the bonuses, effective March 11, but has put the policy on hold until "state resources are available," his spokesman told WKOW.

I don't think it's a subby fail. It's either a SunsetLament fail or a reporter fail. Hard to tell how exactly the system works. I took it that the governor can control whether or not it exists, but cannot control how it operates.

2012-04-21 09:24:59 AM
It has gotten to the point where nothing Walker does surprises me anymore. Normally, I'd just assume there was a good reason behind this, but because it's Scott Walker, I'd have a hard time believing there wasn't some time of ulterior motive for this. And that's kind of sad.

Yeah, but attorneys might leave for a firm if they aren't paid well, but as a teacher, I just work for the joy of dealing with a room full of children with the attention span of a meth-addicted goldfish. Mere money is beneath me.

2012-04-21 09:28:54 AM
fta In an e-mail response to The Capital Times, DOJ spokeswoman Dana Brueck says the bonuses are needed to retain employees who require a substantial investment to train -- such as DNA analysts who undergo a year of training, only to be recruited by higher-paying private firms.

So it's a taxpayer-funded education and job placement program? Imokwiththis.jpg

Thirty-eight of the 93 increasees went to DNA analyst

Why would anyone be against giving a measly $3k bonus to someone that is instrumental in the conviction of rapists?

The right-wing morons in this country will continue to view this jackass as a hero--someone willing to stand up and stick it to the libtards [a generalized term including minorities, homosexuals, women (esp. single women), and anyone that has any chance of having it a bit better than them]. Walker's history will be written to reflect this, regardless of the long-term negative consequences of his disastrous administration.

Lando Lincoln: And don't forget about the latest round of anti-abortion laws in Wisconsin.

These ones were the worst. Planned Parenthood just suspended all "pill-based" (or whatever you want to call them) abortions because the laws are so vague and ridiculous that doctors aren't even sure what could get them charged with a felony and what won't. Oh, and the state lost another 4,500 jobs in March.

That's been the ethos on AM radio for the last 3-1/2 years. Are you going to get over it when he gets recalled? I'm betting you will derp it up with some crap like "democracy is thwarting the will of the people". The simple fact is all this crap he is pulling is not what he ran on. The good people of Wisconsin did not vote him into office to bust unions, sell state assets to the Koch brothers and so on.

It's not petty and the people of Wisconsin are not going to get over it.

It's too bad, I love Wisconsin, at one point I really was pushing to move there. Not any more. Outside of Madison it seems like it's just North Mississippi.

What's wrong with giving bonuses to people who have done the work above and beyond expectations to earn them?

I know it's unfathomable to think that union members who are dependent upon tenure rather than performance for their livelihoods might not have any incentive to give a fark but hey that's the way it is.

Same argument, Obama and Stimulus.

You do know that Wisconsin is doing better right? Lower projected deficit, lower property taxes, school districts saving a ton now that they are not forced into union owned health insurance programs. Decreased unemployment below national average. The horrors of that state...

Then why are they taking it from police dispatchers and other non-sworn personnel? They're just as important to law enforcement. This is a fairly venial sin as Walker sins go, but when you hand it to the guy (Van Hollen) who's been your biggest lapdog it looks mighty fishy.

I'm sure there are plenty who do work their asses off and go above and beyond expectations. Too bad then, that according their very own union, they do not deserve a bonus based upon that hard work. They deserve money based solely on the amount of time that they've worked.

Except he didn't cut pay, he cut benefits. And he didn't give raises, JB Van Hollen did.

The benefit cutting thing stinks, and I hope he loses the recall election for it. But the government needs to keep people in jobs that are in high demand. The way you do that is by paying them.

If you want to biatch about something here, biatch about Van Hollen giving his assistant's wife a raise.

Oh please. He raised the cost of benefits which directly translates to lower pay. Don't think you can substitute pointless semantics for an actual argument.
