So college elections are official government elections now? The election fraud charge seems extreme.

/does this mean we finally found something that voter ID laws would have prevented?

Is it a publicly funded university? If it is, I don't think federal charges are extreme.

He gotta be demo-crat.

DrippinBalls: He gotta be demo-crat.

I don't know. If he was a "demo-crat" he wouldn't have needed to cheat to win. Remember, this was a college election. Aren't all college students liberals?

/no idea if he was D or R
//at least you didn't say "demo-rat," although I think that you just made a typo and "demo-rat" was really what you were going for

This happened because California state schools no longer have any classes in American history.

The charges are for use of a computer in the theft of the student IDs. That's an FBI issue since it's a combination of hacking and identity theft.

All we did was blanket the students with campaign literature, wear our shirts, and get hammered when we won.

Wait, he was running as a college republican? That seems unlikely, that club has like 5% of the vote even on the campuses where they're as popular as they ever get.

The FBI couldn't give less of a fark about a student election if you paid them solely on farks not given, but identity theft is identity theft whether you're doing it to buy shiat off of eBay or to win a stupid private org election, and on a University you're probably going to incidentally steal some out-of-state IDs, which makes it a federal matter.

Yeah, in this instance it probably was a bit of an overreaction, but the system overall makes sense.

Wouldn't have to be out of state IDs to be a federal manner. Anything involving a SSN or the internet would make it a federal manner by itself.

All that trouble for a STUDENT BODY ELECTION?!?!?!

How sad must this guy's life be if he thinks that's worth committing a felony. The student government is just a figurehead for the most part anyways.

dookdookdook: Ran a student paper that "humorously" promoted misogyny, homophobia, pedophilia, and racism.

Sounds republican to me.

Worse:

"Even before the tampering allegations, Weaver's candidacy was a point of contention on campus because of his association with the Koala, an underground campus newspaper.

The tabloid, which billed itself as a parody, featured explicit violent and sexual content, including lists such as "top five excuses for rape," and "top 10 breakup lines to use on a girl you kidnapped."

One issue depicted a student's face digitally altered onto a pornographic image of two women."

Sounds like a swell guy...

So even though they required voter ID, there was fraud?

I thought that was supposed to fix that?

...and in case anyone is wondering what my original post meant: let's just say that the Admins substantially changed the headline from TF to here.

No, it's just supposed to keep poor people from voting. You know. The people that guys like jpo2269 think shouldn't be able to vote in the first place.

Presuming substance to the allegations and given the campus newspaper that has drawn criticism for its "explicit violent and sexual content", sounds more clearly SDO than anything else.
