I haven't watched more than 3-4 outs of this entire season. I'm not a bandwagoner. I've been rooting for this team since I can remember. My earliest recollection is going to a game against the Texas Rangers in 1984.

I've been sort of ashamed of my hypocritical views. I don't think we should be spending all this money on sports on the delusion that they are representative of the human struggle.

Finally, an ownership comes along that gives me the pleasure of seeing a team I followed all of my life win a couple championships. But hey, steroids, etc. I don't care. I enjoyed them, and now I'm sick of them after the way they treated Francona.

I was slightly interested in watching the ceremony just to see the drama, but I didn't. I ignored it. I saw the score in passing. Some of my friends say they're not going to punish themselves, others say ownership groups come and go. I don't know...I just don't care.

So I've finally eliminated one of the four major sports in America from my schedule. This summer should be much more productive.

I saw most of the pre-game ceremony on MLB Network and, just as a baseball fan and not a Red Sox fan, it was pretty moving. I just wish they'd done a better job of identifying everyone. Seriously, is anyone supposed to recognize Don Aase in 2012? Quite an ovation they gave Francona, too.

Try Formula 1. It's on average once every two weeks, and Speed shows the race about three or four times during the day, so it's incredibly convenient.

Pay attention, boys and girls. The above is what we call a "frontrunner" fan.

Otherwise known as "red sox fans".

Francona should have walked out on the field with a bag of coke and a woman under each arm. He's the only Red Sox coach to win a WS since 1918, and he won two at that by sweeping each series.

From Wiki: "Terry Francona is the only manager in Major League history to win his first eight consecutive World Series games and just the second manager to guide two Red Sox clubs to World Series titles, the other being Bill "Rough" Carrigan who led Boston to back-to-back championships in 1915 and 1916." When management dumped Nomar mid-season Francona was able to keep the team focused to win the World Series in 2004, and this was also after the huge playoff collapse to the Yankees in 2003. Plus he became the first MLB manager to win a playoff series after trailing 0-3 in games.

Red Sox management should be building Tito a shrine yesterday. I swear if Valentine continues being Valentine and farks up the team I would be happy to see fans stay away from the park.

They felt it was necessary to get a few laughs at an incident that should embarrass them - Pedro throwing at Karim Garcia's head and inciting a bench-clearing brawl because he was getting smacked around in 2003. In truth it was the perfect situation for Yankee fans, knowing that even when the Red Sox are celebrating 100 years of their own history they just can't stop themselves from thinking about the Yankees.

The whole thing was just ... awkward.

So you're totally fine supporting a team when they throw a shiat product at you or act like they don't care so much about the fans? I love sports but don't kid yourself that these teams aren't anything more than businesses, or do you think the NBA lockout was all about the fans?

The Yankees weren't exactly selling out games during those years/decades when they weren't winning the World Series before the late 90's, so I guess their fans are frontrunners also.

pedros offhand joke about an interview he did almost 10 years ago is an official platform of the boston red sox. that's why they lost the game, nobody in the dugout could stop talking about whatshisname.

And I guess Millar wasn't done, this was from a press conference I guess...

"We were the best team. . . . Look back at our team from Pedro to David Roberts, from Curt Leskanic to Manny Ramirez, everybody contributed. . . . You can't replace what we had. You can't buy it," Millar said. "The Yankees have tried to do that for years. You can't do it.

"We had a group of Bill Mueller, Mark Bellhorn, Orlando Cabrera, Jason Varitek. And the Yankees? You looked over there and it was A-Rod and (Derek) Jeter and (Jason) Giambi. It didn't match up on paper, but we had good people."

Yeah, the 2004 Red Sox invented team chemistry. The Yankees have never been able to match their success. Certainly not in 96, 98, 99, 00 and 09 or the 22 other times in history they've won the World Series.

And Millar is full of shiat, the 2004 Red Sox on paper and on the field were a better team than the Yankees that year. Convenient he mentioned the "scrappy" guys, leaving out the fact that their best offensive player was a $160 million free agent who was joined in the outfield by another free agent signing (Johnny Damon). And that their rotation had two of the best pitchers of the generation while the Yankees were going with a rotation of Mussina, Leiber, Kevin Brown and 65-year old El Duque. The fluky part of that series was the fact that the Yankees won the first three, not that the Red Sox won the last four.

I'm not saying that's WHY they lost, I'm saying it's why they deserved to lose. He was wearing a Red Sox uniform and they handed him a microphone as a representative of their franchise, and despite speaking for less than two minutes found a way to work Karim Garcia into his remarks. That's good hustle.

It is true that Yankee fans are also obsessed with the Red Sox--there are years' worth of documented proof of that in Fark threads alone, courtesy Wise_Guy and other regulars.

That said, a) there's nothing wrong with that, and b) that drunken Pedro/Millar thing was still a disgrace. That's probably more on management though.
