Just thought of a couple of other scenes that just about had me pissing my pants.

That one episode where they showed a Gumby Short and Gumby gets robots to do the yardwork. In the end Gumby's father had to dismantle them, and for some reason at the end the the short with the big "THE END" one of the robots heads were hanging over the basketball goal. The skit the followed that short still makes my sides hurt. Tom and Crow doing the voices for the toys was gold "Snuh! nuh nummanuenahnuhnuh SNUH!"

And that during the movie of "The screaming skull" where Tom and Crow are going to play a joke on Mike by painting Crows head to look like a skull, and when Mike walks out and completely flips his shiat. Again.....piss myself with laughter.

Yes, and but also there are certain file sharing communities that won't share commercially released content, but once it goes OOP it's fair game again.

Toshiro Mifune's Letter Opener: If both crews would ever team up to take on a movie, it would be *glorious.*

Oh jeez. Is there even a movie gloriously awful enough to deserve a tag-teaming from Rifftrax and Cinematic Titanic together?

Every public comment I've seen suggests that there's no animosity between the two groups, and they've passed Mary Jo back and forth between them (try not to think about it). So it could happen in theory.

Maybe they could savage the 1987 Troma film "Blood Hook", Jim Mallon's sole non-MST directing credit.

Hell, with Rifftrax redoing Manos in August, this might be the perfect opportunity to have one or two of the CT team as guest riffers. What movie could possibly be more fitting for a full reunion? Not likely, but a man can dream.

Toshiro Mifune's Letter Opener: As I said in the other thread, I *hate* having to choose in this debate, but if I absolutelypositivelycertainlyvitally had to pick one, it would be Mike by a nose (or a big chin).

There you are My MiSTie!

Personally, both are awesome

Space Mutiny, Manos, Blood Waters, Spider Island, Party Beach...

I like Mike a bit more because of the step brother feeling, plus he was great in the Movie. Joel always seemed a lil too accepting of his fate

If they could of had Dr. F and TV's Frank more with Mike and the Bots w/o the invention exchange (Prop jokes was Joel's specialty, that's why it faded with Mike) it could of been a lot more entertaining.

Pearl and her crew and their adventures had the chuckles, but it was a bit contrived at points.

All I wanted for my birthday this weekend was to kick back with a few Harpoon IPA's and a bag of Doritos and watch Space Mutiny.

But no...I am NOT spending $80 for it on DVD....and even when the Missus offered to get it as a gift I just couldn't let her. Not for $80.

Son of Thunder: sigdiamond2000: I love both, but I think the Mike-era MST episodes are far and away more consistently funny than the Joel-era ones. That is undeniable as far as I'm concerned.

The difficulty here is that there were more Joel episodes with Dr. Forrester and TV's Frank, while Pearl/Bobo/Brain Guy (yuck) were all during Mike's tenure. So that makes it hard for me to like the Mike episodes better than the Joel episodes.

/deep hurting

This right here.

I'll always prefer Joel, even if Mike was the head writer. I just liked Joel's delivery better. Mike just seemed really douchey to me.

It has to be out there.

It's all a matter of *finding* it.

If anyone can, Frank's the man.

Pretty much, aye.

I don't know if there's any residual animosity towards Jim Mallon, but since he didn't do very much riffing, it ain't no thang.

Fooshards: MIke is clearly the best.

There are always a few Joel episodes that have me leaning in the other direction.... and then I lean back towards Mike, and so on and so forth.

There's something about Mike's delivery that makes it just *click* for me.

Dry and aware, with a *hint* of goofiness, you know?

The contrivances with Pearl and company were more-or-less forced by Sci-Fi, since they wanted an overarching plot to link the episodes. *shrugs*

Mog32Kupo: Pearl and her crew and their adventures had the chuckles, but it was a bit contrived at points.

Wasn't part of Sci-Fi's orders to have the host segments have more "plot"? I know they forced them to focus more on Sci-Fi movies instead of the occasional western or beatnik films.

I started watching the show in 1993 with Joel and continued through the MST3K Hour and onto the SyFy channel with Mike and the 'bots. Loved every minute of it. When "Diabolik" premiered, my friends and I had a 'goodbye to MST3K' party that consisted of us watching the movie, laughing like idiots, and eating cake.

Mike's humor was more geared to one-liners and sarcasm, so I enjoyed his tenure more than Joel's, but I also loved the Invention Exchange that Joel, Dr. Forrester, and TV's Frank did. I went to the Christmas-themed shorts Rifftrax Live! and loved it.

"Is there a tree under all that crap?"
"Yes, but it's of no account."

The bottom line is that this show is completely awesome and--whomever the host is--it should still be on the air.

Doing a quick gis, I'm assuming Best Brains is a classic episode(s) with Mike. To be honest, when Joel left I really never gave Mike much of a chance, I was upset. I tried watching a few episodes, but it wasn't the same. I'll give them a chance though.

Best Brains was the production company, based in Hopkins, MN, behind MST. When the show was still in production, they often hosted free tours for the public.

You're right. Many of the people who keep circulating the tapes do play well with Best Brains and the company releasing the commercial DVDs (currently Shout Factory, who have been able to pull off some wonderful acquisitions for DVD).

And truthfully, the people circulating the tapes may have better copies of the episodes than currently reside in Jim Mallon's vaults. The master tapes are starting to degrade, and the last few DVD releases have all had episodes that suffer from tape hits.

i think both were pretty damn funny, what made Joel great was his ability riff very naturally - almost like he was watching the movie for the first time with the audience, what made Mike great was his timing and writing which made for some of the all time funniest riffs
