So this is actually true? It is in his autobiography. And the media actually ran with this like it was news, yet isn't covering the GOP blocking the Violence Against Women Act or their betrayal of the deficit deal, which is going to mean a government shutdown in October.

Yeah. Liberal media my ass.

In my opinion the media isn't Liberal or conservative anymore just lazy as a motherfarker. Especially the politicial media. I mean why go chase down a story and interview people and anctually have to THINK about stuff when there is an advocacy group ready to spoon-feed you all the copy you'll ever need and even let you interview their hand-picked experts for some real-sounding quotes?

And if that's too much trouble just run with whatever line of attack the opposing campaign media shops are trying to push that day.

Or, if you're really hung over, just google a poll online and run another horse-race story.

The Right knows exactly what this anecdote is about and how non-threatening it is in context of the book. They know most of their fans wont read past the 'ate dog' part of the head-line, and those that read the full paragraph will be inclined to see some 'foreignization' of the President when he was a kid. That's the angle that's going to be coming out. Digs about dog eating and attempts to push a bit of fear and worry of a president who wandered dirt streets and ate dogs while squatting in fetid gutters with foreigners. Can he realy, truly be American at his core because of this? Yes, he can but not to a group that thrives on marginalization and disenfranchising supported by a constituency that constantly needs to be fed fear.

This man, Obama, and his blood lust for dog meat is sickening. Can you imagine the number of labs, golden retrievers and collies that he has had shipped into Sam Kass's kitchen for slaughter.

Obama feasts on dog meat souffle, BBQ dog, dog stew, deep fried dog, all while the rest of us try to carefully eat the way Michelle tells us.

If he is re-elected, we must demand that he stops slaughtering dogs.

I wouldn't say "lazy" as much as I would say "maximizing the utility of labor". A reporter does a whole bunch of in depth research, digs up a scandal, fact checks, and publishes over the course of weeks... media outlet sells a hundred more units. Another reporter copies and pastes some screed from a fringe site... media outlet sells 10 more units.

Which is more profitable?

Welcome to the United Soviet States of America..where the Pravda State Media "vet" the candidates to the pleasure and needs of the RinoCrat UniParty.

This "election" will be a non-election...featuring the state approved "candidates"-whose only distinction is whether they are black or white.

There's pineapple dog, lemon dog, coconut dog, pepper dog, dog soup, dog stew, dog salad, dog and potatoes, dog burger, dog sandwich.

Meh, I can't get outraged at this. I have family and friends that served in Vietnam, and others were based in Korea. My friend Jon (retired Marine) on a new guy in the unit who asked the vendor if the sandwich was beef:

Vendor: "Yes, beef, beef!"
Jon: "Jesus lady, he's new, and doesn't know he ate dog 4 times already. We just got back from maneuvers, just give me the regular dog sandwich. I don't care, it's meat."

You eat what the locals do. That's what travel is, for confirmation see: Stormin' Norman Schwarzkopf on his travels in the Middle East with his dad.

Exactly. Look at these two quotes:
Bill Ayers Fugitive Days:

"I picture the street coming alive, awakening from the fury of winter, stirred from the chilly spring night by cold glimmers of sunlight angling through the city."

Obama's Dreams (supposedly):

"Night now fell in midafternoon, especially when the snowstorms rolled in, boundless prairie storms that set the sky close to the ground, the city lights reflected against the clouds."

If you can't tell these two sentences were written by the same person, you're obviously blind.

Seamus on the car roof is relevant to Romney's adult character and Obama eating dog is a circumstance of being a child with an Indonesian stepfather. One is something Romney did and the other is something that happened to Obama. But Republicans don't care if something is only technically true out of context. They think they've got something to neutralize Seamus. And they're right. People who don't like Obama will simply chant this to shout down any further mention of Seamus. Fire up the fake outrage machine! The irony is Republicans will hit Obama harder with this than Democrats hit on the Seamus story.

One ate dog meat as a chile while experienciong a different culture with a childhood friend where you gain the powers of the animal you ate. Another strapped a dog to the roof of the car and hosed said dog off when it got sick from being on the roof of the car due to seeing the dog as an object rather than a living being.

/ It would be funny if the power he gained from eating the dog was the desire to sniff butts.

There is a growing gap between our awareness of Evil and our intelligence to handle it.

Well, considering that America stood by and did nothing while the previous president sent 5000+ Americans to go die in Iraq over a pack of lies, I'd have to agree

Exactly - but if you think this administration is trying to bridge that gap you are horribly mistaken. Evil is not restricted to sending off young men and women to war over a lie - that is just one facet.

We need to exhume JFK and impeach him.

Profiles in Courage is a 1955 Pulitzer Prize-winning biography describing acts of bravery and integrity by eight United States Senators throughout the Senate's history. The book profiles senators who crossed party lines and/or defied the opinion of their constituents to do what they felt was right and suffered severe criticism and losses in popularity because of their actions, and begins with a quote from Edmond Burke on the courage of the English Statesman, Charles James Fox, in his 1783 attack upon the tyranny of the East Indian Company in the House of Commons. The book was widely celebrated and became a best seller. John F. Kennedy is credited as its author, but there are credible allegations that most of it was the work of his speechwriter, Theodore Sorensen.

Simpsons quote:

Principal Skinner: The year was 1968. We were on recon in a steaming Mekong delta. An overheated private removed his flack jacket, revealing a T-shirt with an ironed-on sporting the MAD slogan "Up with Mini-skirts!". Well, we all had a good laugh, even though I didn't quite understand it. But our momentary lapse of concentration allowed "Charlie" to get the drop on us. I spent the next three years in a POW camp, forced to subsist on a thin stew made of fish, vegetables, prawns, coconut milk, and four kinds of rice. I came close to madness trying to find it here in the States, but they just can't get the spices right!

upload.wikimedia.org

Oh and unless there is a massive consipracy that dates back to when he was running for Senate, I'm pretty sure that the fact that Obama writes many of his own speeches is true. Back when he was running a distant 3rd in the Democratic Primary for US Senate (and the Dem nominee was seen as nothing more than a sacrifical lamb who was going to be slaughtered by the dynamic, Charismatic GOP up-and-comer Jack Ryan); I had a law professor who bought a table at one of his fund-raisers and invited his students along because he admired Obama's message.

I went and I was blown away as his speaking ability and obvious intelligence, many of the rhetorical styles and cadences he used that night he continues to use to this day

(and I honestly said to fellow student as we left that night "If America was the country we pretend it is, that many would be running for president instead of having no shot at becoming senator; what a shame)

Like many Indonesians, Lolo followed a brand of Islam that could make room for the remnants of more ancient animist and Hindu faiths. He explained that a man took on the powers of whatever he ate: One day soon, he promised, he would bring home a piece of tiger meat for us to share.

Warped by reality! OH MY GOD!

Ayers is really a psychic who knew he would meet Obama four months before Dreams From My Father would be published, so he had a manuscript ready to go as soon as he met him.

Shaggy_C: Angry Drunk Bureaucrat: Everyone knows the proper way to serve dog is strapped to the roof of the family car.

Between Romney Roofstrapper and Obama the Colliemuncher, who is the candidate for those of us who care about the well-being of animals?

Obama didn't behave in a cruel manner, unless you are a vegan because eating meat is inherently cruel. In that case, yeah there's never been a presidential candidate for you. Plus, a lot of vegans ate meat as children because that is what their parents fed them. Obama lived part of his childhood in Indonesia. People eat dog there the way we eat chicken or pig. I, personally, find that gross, but I friends from India who think it's gross that anyone would ever eat a cow.

So, to sum up, we have a man who, as a child, ate a meat that was culturally common for the area where he lived. Then, we have a man who, as an adult, strapped a sick dog to the roof of his car after the dog had already been really sick traveling on top of that very roof. You may decide that both, neither, or only one of these men mistreated an animal. For me, it's pretty clear.

Sounds to me like they sure did. Here's their official response to the fly swat.

Apart from the fact that there's absolutely no evidence for it, the theory doesn't even make sense.

Why would Obama not be capable of writing his own book? He was the editor of the Harvard Law Review and a Professor of Constitutional Law at a highly regarded law school. He's clearly capable of writing and expressing his thoughts. And aside from that, why would Ayers write Obama's memoirs?

Whenever I come across these right-wing obsessions that don't even make any sense on the surface, I just assume that it's basically masked racism, which is the only way it makes any sense. It's a dog whistle, like the teleprompter thing and birtherism.

It's not hypocritical if, as a public policy advocacy group, they value and prioritize public policy regarding women's rights and reproductive rights over the personal failings of an individual politician. And especially if the alternative from the other party is much worse regarding those areas of public policy.

I confess...I'm kind of a casual fan when it comes to the Bills and football. I hope they draft someone good and someday become a contending team again. But I don't follow college football and couldn't really have an informed conversation about what prospects are good or not.

Could probably have a much longer conversation about what the Sabres should do in their upcoming draft, than the Bills.

Defensive depth isn't bad. McNabb, Brennan, and Pysyk all in the pipeline and all project as NHLers. Though using their second first rounder or one of their second rounders on a defenseman would be fine with me.

Top pick though should definitely be a centerman. Center depth is weak both at the NHL level and on the farm. Only thing in the pipeline is a regressing Luke Adam and a bunch of question marks. Hopefully Faksa can fall to them at #12; either that, or maybe they can trade up and try to get Grigorenko.

Alternatively, some statements by Regier lead me to believe that they may try to use their wealth of high draft picks (4 in the first two rounds) to acquire a center via trade. Especially since the free agent crop is pretty weak this year.

I think I'd prefer this method, because they are really weak at the NHL levels; a surprising Ennis notwithstanding.

The kind who can write an autobiography that will make millions of dollars. I'd write my autobiography right now if I had the skills and life story to make a tenth of what Obama made on his.

It doesn't take a genius level rocket surgeon to figure that out.

So, the only things you believe in are things you can prove?

Who wrote a book is not a matter of faith.

You believing Obama wrote it all by himself is.....

Not at all.

It says so right there in the title

"Dreams from my Father" by Barack Obama

I have proof he wrote it. It's published.

What reason do you have to doubt that proof?

Ironic, that Hillary Clinton did indeed use a Ghost Writer for "It Takes a Village" but people believe she wrote it (or at least don't challenge it as much) because she's smart and they accept that she is smart because she graduated from a good university I guess.

I wonder why Obama doesn't get the same benefit of the doubt?

Their NHL centers right now are Roy, Ennis, Hodgson, McCormick.

McCormick is fine in a 4th line role - can be shifted out for Adam if he ever gets his shiat together. Assuming Roy is gone over the summer, that leaves them needing to add one center. Ennis and Hodgson are a pretty good 1-2 punch (going to be really good in a few years), but right now, they are a bit on the young side. So what they really need is a experienced, veteran center, doesn't have to be a top-liner, but enough skill to be slotted into the second or third line.

John McCain made a lame joke about something Obama ate when he was six, and you think McCain is winning?

2008 Electoral votes:

Obama: 365

McCain: 173

But let's just call it a draw. . .

Obama has never been a law professor, let alone a Harvard law professor. He was the first black editor of the Harvard Law Review and also the first editor of the Harvard Law Review to never have published an article in said review.

Additionally, at age 34 he had not yet started his political career.

I know facts are pesky things to his followers but they are what they are.

In my opinion the media isn't Liberal or conservative anymore just lazy as a motherfarker.

I think you are reading it wrong. The media wants an exciting story. Obama walking all over the opposition sounds dull so they will do all they can to whip it up into a race. Its disgusting really, but it will probably work.

Statement directly from the University of Chicago:

Statement Regarding Barack Obama
The Law School has received many media requests about Barack Obama, especially about his status as "Senior Lecturer."

From 1992 until his election to the U.S. Senate in 2004, Barack Obama served as a professor in the Law School. He was a Lecturer from 1992 to 1996. He was a Senior Lecturer from 1996 to 2004, during which time he taught three courses per year. Senior Lecturers are considered to be members of the Law School faculty and are regarded as professors, although not full-time or tenure-track. The title of Senior Lecturer is distinct from the title of Lecturer, which signifies adjunct status. Like Obama, each of the Law School's Senior Lecturers has high-demand careers in politics or public service, which prevent full-time teaching. Several times during his 12 years as a professor in the Law School, Obama was invited to join the faculty in a full-time tenure-track position, but he declined.

Boom. Debate over. You lose.

Unless you'd care to make the exceedingly silly argument the Univ of Chicago doesn't understand who worked in its employ as a law professor.

From wiki: Dreams from My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance is a memoir by United States President Barack Obama. It was first published in July 1995 as he was preparing to launch his political career. . .

So it's more like seventeen years since the book with the story about eating dog meat came out.

The Audacity of Hope came out in '06, and the GOP opposition research team will have some juicy stuff quotes by 2023.

Which will be really bad news . . . for Obama.
