dennysgod: FTFA likened Obama's "..extreme secularist agenda" as violating the First Amendment

So let me get this straight, Obama following the First Amendments rule of keeping the United States of America a secular state is against the First Amendment.

He's persecuting Christians by not allowing them to make America a theocracy.

The English Major: This should make mass more interesting this weekend.

Stuff like this is why I stopped going.

I was wavering for years but liked the helping your fellow man and peace focus jpii had even if women's issues kinda sucked. Then Ratzinger came in... there were signs before that and there are still Catholics doing awesome work and humbly too... but I couldn't deal with it anymore.

Still half Catholic because disavowing it all would be ignoring 99% of my family traditions but yeah..

I was in a dioscese wide leadership group in high school, too. 9 out of 10 of us are out of the church now. What we cared about to volunteer 8 hours a week for started to not matter to the heirarchy. And it got to be too much for the three kids who came out too.

The 1 in 10 keep sending me reunion notices I ignore. $100 a ticke to reconnect with a group that mainly focused on getting Catholic teens involved in helping our community sure.

It doesn't sound as though you're with the President. This is a dangerous time and there are many people out there who love death more than they love life and would love to hurt us. If you're not with us, you're against us. Be careful what you say.

Comma error.

Bush all the way down to that jerk in the restaurant who asked them to talk a little more quietly on their cell phone.

Sorry but if we're keeping score in the game of Who Rolls Out Nazi References More Frequently in Describing the Opposing Party Leadership... then the right wingers win that contest going away....

Were you born in 2008?

Oh, I get it, that's a reference to the fact that maybe I don't know that people referred to Bush as Hitler when he was president.... You know, mostly people in foreign countries and a few kooks in anti-war rallies. Which is funny because I never saw CNN, MSNBC or any other network that wingnuts like to call "liberal" make references to George Bush being a Nazi like Fox News does on almost a weekly basis.

So yeah, the left were mere amateurs when it comes to dragging out the Nazi hysteria.

Those are some extremely thick rose-colored glasses. Maybe I saw more than the 'average' person saw because I spent half of that Administration on the campus of a large liberal arts university, but I think that both you and I know that "Bush = Hitler" was far more widespread than your "foreigners and a few kooks." I would accuse you of being dishonest, either with us or with yourself, but I've seen time and time again that people's (myself included) political memories are quite short, and heavily influenced by confirmation bias.

To be fair, the Left's critical exaggeration of the 2001-2008 Administration was almost exclusively "Hitler," while the Right's critical portrayal of the current Administration runs the entirety of several political, social, and religious spectrums. So I suppose that you guys look substantially saner by comparison due to sheer consistency of message -

Additionally, you're right about media - Fox News pundits (admittedly only from what I've seen in clips on other networks) trot out the wingnut namecalling far more often than their peers in 'first tier media.' I don't use them for news or punditry, so I feel no compulsion whatsoever to defend them. I consider that to be little better than abhorrent, low-culture entertainment for people who enjoy living in echo chambers.

If we're going to be fair, we have to admit that Bush was a lot more Hitleresque than Obama. Sorry. It's the truth. Obama didn't start a war trying to get Oilsraum.

YES! OBAMA IS THE WORST PERSON EVER SINCE HYPERBOLE WAS INVENTED!

No, he's worser! He's like the ass-rape baby of Stalin, Hitler, Mao Tse Tung and General Zod, and yes, that was a party.

Seriously, America, you don't like blacks, or even demi-blacks. We get it. Obama's no worse than any number of your presidents, and considerably better in that he didn't actively screw things up much, except that he should have had some bankers garroted to raise morale.

I find most human problems are a failure to understand the concept of scale.

Which is why Stalin does not equal Obama, who is at best responsible for drone-killing a fair number of Afghan weddings in his effort to avoid acknowledging as long as possible that bin Laden was in Pakistan.

If I can just offer the international position on this, the world outside the US never saw Bush as Hitler because we've never seen Hitler as a stupid dumbass embarrassment. He was evil. Dubya is a moronic tool. Dick Cheney and his extensive commercial interests, on the other hand....

Between 10 million and 114 million First Nations people killed as a direct result of US actions. Manifest Destiny indeed.

The official Federal Government estimate was 1 million to 4 million.

Refer to:
God, Greed and Genocide: The Holocaust Through the Centuries: Grenke (New Academia Publishing 2006)

Holocaust: Critical Concepts in Historical Studies: Cesarani, (Routledge 2004)

Yeah, it wasn't done by one "leader." More of a multi-generational Federal policy. But hey, I sure no one remembers.

So let me get this straight... the excuse now is that Catholics were just afraid to get on the wrong side of Hitler, so they supported the Nazis, hid their gold, etc?

What happened to standing up for what you believe in? Catholics, out of all people, should understand the sacrifices you have to make to be a moral person. Am I right? Dying for what you believe is right is exactly what Jesus did... isn't it?

Unbelievable...

BigNumber12: To be fair, the Left's critical exaggeration of the 2001-2008 Administration was almost exclusively "Hitler,"

The comparisons were to an authoritarian fascist regime, to which the Bush administration certainly was. Indefinite detention, torture, blocking trials of detainees, patriot act, blind patriotism, attacking anyone who disagreed with the GOP as anti-American and unpatriotic, etc.

That's exactly what a fascist regime does. The comparisons to Hitler were valid.

Don't forget, Army units comprised entirely of Red Army soldiers who had been captured as POW's and then released, and now were put in the front lines and if they retreated the Red Army soldiers behind them were ordered to just mow them down. Yep, if you were in the Red Army and taken as a POW by the Germans and then released, you'd go back to the Red Army and either die on the front line or die when you you followed your training to retreat. A big part of the death toll for the Red Army during WW2 is men they literally sent out to be killed.

Fark. It is rare that I I find out about a Catholic doctrine I wasn't aware of - though I suppose that that particular facet isn't advertised within their educational system (such as it is). It isn't.

Honestly, comparing the US today with the Civil Rights movement of the 1950s/1960s or the labour movement there in the 1930s, it's actually relatively peaceful. Shrill, yes. Filled with hyperbole, yes. Potentially a violent boiling pot, no.

This isn't happening:

Have to agree with the priest on this one. I think Obama is bent on taking this country down Socialist lane. He wants to destroy the fundamentals of this country. He has made it obvious that he doesn't like Caucasians or Jews. He's up to something with the Russians and the Arabs as well. Bad guy, ought to be locked away for life. If you deny it you're lying to yourself.
