Just once I'd like one of these toolboxes to compare something with the mass extermination of homosexuals by the Nazis... But then their mouthbreathing followers would probably think it was a good thing.

I feel the same way about not being able to smoke weed in restaurants. Would love to be able to light up before dessert.

I don't like smoking bans (I do think that property owners should have the option of allowing smoking), but this guy? He's not helping. Comparing smoking bans to the Holocaust is assinine even though people like Mike Bloomberg really need a punch to the face.

did he really have to say it on holocaust memorial day?

ftfa "last thursday"
oh, he said it last week. still.

yes, smoking bans are retarded. the country (at least the southern part) was initially founded as a tobacco farming enterprise. if not for tobacky, we'd all be stuck in england waiting for good weather.

but a smoking ban is hardly anything like the genocide of millions of people. anyone who even thinks to make such a comparison should be kept far away from anything of consequence....

No, but I heard there's lots of eating and hugging involved, and occasionally sending the soup back.

The logic you are using is beyond pants-on-head retarded, I'm afraid. The nation was also founded as a slaveholding society where women were denied the vote, you know.

So is the ban on that other peculiar institution that the southern part of this country was initially founded on retarded too?

When DC had a smoking ban and Virginia didn't, I avoided Arlington restaurants and bars completely because all my clothing would stink to high heaven after a night out. The problem with smoking bans is that restaurants don't do the analysis required to realize that nonsmokers avoid smoking bars as much as smokers avoid nonsmoking bars, and there are a lot more nonsmokers out there.

I hate smoking, I hate the fact that you can give people cancer just by being around them.

That said. I'm against smoking bans anywhere not a public place. If its a private business the ONLY regulation you should have to deal with is a simple sign informing people that you have a smoking establishment before they enter. That's all.

You have been favorited, sir.

Btw, you know what's awesome? Not having to deal with people smoking in lots of places. It's great.

Also, smoking has killed or shortened the lives of way more people than the Holocaust. By a large margin.

Nazi uniforms look kind of cool, too, especially in a punk rock context.

I don't know. Have you ever been forced to sit outside in the middle of winter because you wanted to smoke while around a bar? At least the Nazis kept the jews warm.

Yup. I, being a non-smoker, chose to frequent the local non-smoking bar so that I could sit there peacefully not smoking. It was not the hardest decision I ever made.

That seems to be a perfectly cromulent comparison

Since when is West Virginia a big tobacco state?

The only thing big in this state is mineral extraction, and Raese is running on the "Flatten Southern West Virginia" platform.

For it to be a good comparison wouldn't the smokers have to wear a patch or star of some sort?

Meh. I'd like it if every bar served craft beer and turned away people in Ed Hardy shirts, but I don't get to decide that, either.

Yeah that is for the best.

All of these smoking ban laws/regulations are anti-freedom for sure.
Like, why do I need pollution control on my car also?
At least put the laws to a popular vote?
