Two black men are taking "The Bachelor" and "The Bachelorette" to court with a lawsuit that claims the reality shows are blocking contestants of color from starring roles.

In the settlement they're going to get their own show - "The Baby Daddy."

2012-04-19 09:46:09 AM
Should then white people file suit against Flavor of Love?

2012-04-19 09:47:32 AM
Both men said they have been fans of the show and that, unlike online dating, saw it as an opportunity to communicate with women face to face.

It is possible that the producers thought they were gay? I haven't met one straight man who admits to watching it, and those rare few who do are basically forced to watch it by their wives/girlfriends.

Yes, but for entirely different reasons.

23 seasons? That's a lot of desperate bored housewives.

Date rapes are bad for ratings.

If white people want to make movies about attractive white people who date a bunch of people, so farking what?

I personally am going to sue NBC and How I Met Your Mother, definitely the fact that the gang has no close friends that are minorities whatsoever is clearly an indication of disgusting racism in the media.

2012-04-19 10:45:24 AM
I'm also suing the Cosby show.

Eight years, five children, not one of them white? I call motherfarking bullshiat on this one.

I don't think there were any black people on Friends or Seinfeld except that episode George realized he didn't know any black people.

Well, while this lawsuit sounds dumb, the difference is that the Bachelor is ostensibly a game show, i.e. more akin to Jeopardy than Seinfeld. If a show holds itself out as 'open to the public' but in fact only is open to one racial segment of the public, then it could concievably be a violation of civil liberties.

And it's supposed to be a so-called "reality" show. That after 23 episodes hasn't had a black bachelor. Certainly not reflective of reality.

Not that my angle there is something you can sue over. But it's insulting to black people and thinking people alike.

Have any of the women suitors been black?

There was that story arc on Friends when Joey and Ross both wanted to/were dating Aisha Tyler.

Then that episode of Seinfeld when Elaine thought she was dating a black man, and he thought he was dating a Hispanic woman, when they were just two white people. They then went to The Gap.

And Gabrielle Union.

Seinfeld was aware of the "controversy" so he addressed it directly in the same self-referential manner that permeated the show.

George and 'Breakfast at Tiffany's' at the black family's house was just brilliant.

Boy, I bet you're glad you're officially "white" now, but 30-40 years ago, you would have been just as unacceptable to these producers as these men who are suing now apparently are

or wait do you really think that black people just hang around and think 'oh man, i wish this show about rich people dating and being fancy would include black people'

because thats pretty farking racist to accuse them of watching the bachelor.

I'm suing Tyler Perry for not dressing up as any fat white women.

Who wants to date a minority?

2012-04-19 11:44:22 AM
Newsflash: Their target audience doesn't care a bit about the dating foibles of black men. Others they don't care about: Gays, fatso, uglies, whatever. The point is that they appeal to some stupid but non-trivial vicarious want/desire. At least that's my guess as I've never seen it.

Seinfeld had everyone! Not in the main cast... but as far as supporting characters they had white, black, Pakistani, Deaf, wheelchairs, midget, Puerto Ricans, Dominicans and so on... basically the diversity of people that make up NYC. There was always a constant in and out of speaking characters from all sorts of backgrounds. Friends on the other hand was pretty much all white and on those rare instances were they finally added some minority characters, most of the time it felt like forced tokens.

Yes, but it airs pretty much around the clock because production costs are so low. They cram in 2 or 3 "seasons" a year.

If you'd seen me in a thread supporting white separatism you'd take what I say on race relations with a grain of salt as well. We can't reserve every thread that's about israel/jews to be your dog and pony show, as they always are, then check our thoughts at the door about your opinion on other racial matters. And as much as it may bother you race is a political issue. At least in the US where this is occuring and working, slowly and sadly but working, towards equality as we've found what the alternative leads to. Hope you do too, soon.

Hahahah, I loved that episode. When he tells them to quiet down about their friend's illness, and then gets up to use the washroom and yells at the daughter for taking his spot. Awesome.

Seinfeld again

Jerry wants to date a native american woman, but keeps on accidentally offending her by buying Elaine a cigar store indian, saying an asian postal worker must know some good chinese food places in the neighborhood, talking about scalping tickets, and accusing someone of indian giving.

Man, I love that show.

Dear brothers,

Please retain what little is left of your dignity and drop this ludicrous lawsuit. Blatant tokenism should NEVER be encouraged-especially not on asinine "reality" shows. See Arkanaut for further clarification.

Sincerely,

Apos
