Do people have issues with pharmacies being close to schools too? Because, in California, a dispensary is really no different from a pharmacy.

rebelyell2006: When as a nation are we going to get over our irrational fear of marijuana.

Sure, except it's still not a good idea to put it next to a continuation school. These kids ARE the kids that screwed up their education already with drugs, gangs, etc.

The violence from keeping drugs illegal is worse than the drugs themselves. Legalize them, and tax the snot out of them.

Alcohol led to a lot of terrible things when we tried to ban it. Law was unenforceable, and the war on drugs never really has been enforceable either. It's not amoral, it's just human nature. If you choose not to partake in it because you find it amoral, that's fine, it doesn't meant that it's a good idea to make it illegal.

I love watching COPS when the cops start lecturing a guy they arrested for weed how what he is doing is harmful to his family, when the only apparent harm is the police hauling him off to jail.

I'm pretty sure you need a prescription and ID to get anything from that shop. What's gonna happen, the students are going to see this, develop a condition, get the prescription, then legally purchase and use it? And what then, suddenly start selling coke?

That's a perfectly cromulent reason to have a medical marijuana prescription.

There is no such thing as a "pot shop". These places are not stores, and they do not market pot.

FEAR is a hellahva drug.

Yet we have no laws on distribution.

You presume that the ban for anything happens on moral grounds. Be to alcohol and marijuana or firearms and prostitution, every ban is an attempt to sell out on that issue for more palpable gain.
Politicians will say that they made whatever choice they did on moral grounds, but it's usually votes or money that inspires it.

If they wanted to reduce an undesired cultural problem then the proper choice would have been to do it through education and rehabilitation. Not by sending armed guards door to door and dragging people off to jail.

The lesson we learned from prohibition of alcohol is that it fuels illegal profiteering.
Indeed funding criminals far better than the "government " could fund law enforcement.

The lesson we have not learned from pot prohibition is that it fuels illegal profiteering.
Funding is only adequate to supress competition, not enough to enforce "the law"(that's the joke, son) , but enough to keep revenues artificially inflated.

One must assume shenanigans at the highest level are perpetuating this travesty.

And one would be right on.

High school kids have had virtually unfettered access to pot for the last 50 years and society hasn't crumbled. I wonder if religious conservatives ever get tired of being wrong.

Hell, going to sunday school as a kid messed me up WAY more than smoking weed did.

... which would then create and sustain a thriving black market where said drug could be obtained cheaper. Just look at cigarettes. I'm all for legalizing pot, but overtaxing it would just create a new problem.

Why is it called a bullshiat school not a public or private? Why is this important place of study in a distracting strip mall? I think I would have more access, be closer to and see more pot going down the road than 100 feet from this outlet.

2012-04-19 09:48:41 AM
The important thing, I think, is to spread as many schools out as possible over an area so that we can apply felony charges to people of society who have guns and drugs near schools. Because that's really the answer.

Assuming by bullshiat you mean continuation. It's a public high school, but for people that flunked or were kicked out of high school. And it's a suburban area. There's schools all around. In neighborhoods, on major streets, next to malls, next to fast food, etc.

the guy quoted in the article "needs pot" for his "attention deficit disorder".

it's hardly like they're treating a bunch of cancer patients. legitimate users of medical mj probably constitute 5% of the users. not that they should be denied their rights, but i can see why people wouldn't want dispensaries on every corner...

Anyone who thinks that Obama over-reached in his interpretation of the commerce clause of the Constitution (with the recent health-care law) should also feel that the commerce clause is being abused in the case of the DEA. Health care (a large fraction of the national economy) is a much more legitimate example of "interstate commerce" than some guy growing pot in his basement.

...so all anti-health-care true conservatives should be pro drug-legalization if they really care about limiting the power of the federal government to the strict wording and intent of the Constitution.

weed helps one focus. to be fair, it could be a focus on video games, cartoons, artwork, engineering, code writing, manual labor, etc. it depends on the person. either way, i'd take weed over any prescription drug.

Except where the people there aren't trained professionals that are licensed and certified by a state board of educators and leaders.

Oh, and the medicine they dispense isn't federally legal, FDA controlled and regulated, or manufactured in a laboratory.

Other than that....it's totally like a pharmacy.
