I was ~ 10 when I first downloaded internet pr0n. I think I don't have a preoccupation with vaginas in any form.

Friggin' kids today.

Back when I was in junior high, a VHS porn tape was considering better than gold.

They had the scrambled pay per view channels too. The Spice Channel was appropriately assigned to channel 69 for a while there, but they changed it for some reason or another.

Channel 69 was always scrambled, but the non-porn pay per view ones were unscrambled between movies while they showed previews, and the first 5 minutes of the movie was always unscrambled, as a teaser or whatever.
When they moved the spice channel, they forgot to move the "always scrambled" rule for about a day.

I still have the VHS tape I made that day.

I remember scrambled porn. Half of it was scrambled but the sound was intact and if you looked at the screen like it was lego blocks you saw what was happening.

Deer cabin, Northern Minnesota, Fall/Winter 1980. My first time hunting. The rest of my party, all men, all over 25 had been at it for many years.
I managed to sprain my 12 year old wrist falling out of my deer stand. I had been on point at 6 am, and there I sat diligently until 7 am when I promptly fell asleep. The rifle had fired into thin air, and there, pushed gently off my stand by the recoil, I lay on my back. My breath had been forced from me. Suddenly the faces of my hunting party surrounded me. I realized I would be yelled at for accidentally discharging my gun, so I told them I had fired at a buck. They seemed to believe me.
Isolated during daylight, I sat alone in that deer cabin for the next 3 days with an old transistor radio in the middle of nowhere.

I found a huge stack of cut rate girly mags in a closet. One featured a fuzzy photo of Farah Fawcett getting out of a limo, sans underwear, à la Britney.

The trees I slaughtered that weekend will haunt me to my grave.

Absolutely nothing has changed. A 13-year-old boy will still "decongest the ferret" to anything available, be it online porn, a Victoria's Secret catalog or a throw pillow at Grandma's that can be scrunched up to look like boobs.

The positive of online porn is that couples are now more willing to experiment with new things without shame.

The negative of online porn is that people have found communities. There once was a time where a man who could only achieve full erection by being strapped to a sawhorse in an abandoned Arthur Treacher's and being vigorously sodomized with a bottle of Crystal Pepsi by an amputee woman dressed as Zack Morris all while a team of shaved midgets used Paas Easter Egg dye to paint Bible scenes on his testicles to the tune of Paula Abdul's "Opposites Attract" would think to himself "my God. I am depraved beyond measure. I need to hide from the world."

Now, that same man simply Googles that last sentence and gets 456,903 hits and some VERY targeted advertisements.

'There are fears that the rise of internet pornography is leaving teenagers unable to maintain normal relationships..."

Psst. You may have the cause and effect relationship mixed up there.

What I fear more than my son finding online porn is him downloading kiddie porn.

For him it would be perfectly natural to want to see kids his own age naked and engaged in various sexual activities, but it would be a problem if the authorities found it on my hard disk.

People might... Just might.. Figure out what turns them on, what turns them off, what they are curious about, and what they are just *into* before they marry someone who is not into or interested in ANY of those things, thus preserving and protecting the sanctity of marria ... aww man, I can't even finish that line.

The point stands though, proud and erect.

We could use a generation or two of kinky and connected people. IMHO they tend to be smarter, more resourceful, less judgmental, and better at communicating.

I think that when my kid, currently less than a year old, starts getting online I'm just going to set up my own proxy server. I'll have her PC locked down tighter than mine at work is.
When she gets older, and we've had that whole family talk about boys and sex and disease babies and what-not (and she's demonstrated that she can think for herself) I'll see about shutting it down.

Well, at least we will have a generation of kids who are *way* better at hiding their tracks and getting around access barriers than my generation was.

When I worked in a hotel, the checkout bill would say "Movie - 3 minutes." Porn never had a title, regular movies did. Many, many businessmen would sheepishly ask for that to be taken off their bill so they could pay cash.

Who remembers finding the older kids' porn stash in the woods? That was the highlight of my youth.

I just had the HUGE collection of super smutty romance books my mom had hidden in the closet, (I know there is a joke there somewhere) and those wonderful weekends when Skinemax was free, and you could fill up a VHS tape with whatever was on from 10pm to 4am, and know you would come out with something good.

//And of course catalogs, and scrambled porn, and my twisted twisted mind

The Inquiry was a complete sham sponsored by the Christian Right in the UK. I downloaded its report yesterday and it's so one-sided it's not funny. Only abuse cases fielded by cherry-picked child protection groups and the agony aunt from the Sun. No input from civil rights or anti-censorship groups. Any mention of objection to censorship was only there as a strawman to be knocked down, labelled 'ideological', and dismissed out of hand. The Inquiry report even ends with a sponsorship message from the Premier Christian Media organisation.

I wrote to my MP to complain about marginalised Christian groups hijacking Parliamentary procedure to push their obsolete social agenda and to point out that it's the responsibility of parents to monitor their children online. If they can't be bothered, that's not my problem.

When I was a kid growing up in the boonies, I found this giant box full of porno mags, probably close to 100, that someone had just thrown away on the side of a secluded road. There was some hardcore European mags in it, that I had never seen. I thought I found the holy grail! What a great summer!

When I was a kid, on the ol' 200mhz Pentium 1, I used to hide my porn in a folder called "Dad's Folder Don't Go In Here"

Sometimes there was more in there then when i left it.

The problem is that children don't have good sense of right and wrong and are very impressionable.

They see the online porn and may think its normal for guys to expect a girl to be treated in odd or abusive ways for sex, then once they have seen it often enough they need something even more extreme in order to achieve arousal.

You may say that never happened to you, and you may be right but I'm not concerned about you, I'm concerned about the children who have no frame of reference and become sexual predators because of this.

Yes, sexual predators could exist with out porn, but don't pretend that access to vile pornography is safe and normal. Young children mostly don't know the difference, and can be easily taught to rationalize vile behavior by thier friends or online predators, like you.

That's more a problem with the current industry than the ease of access.

I don't worry about the consequences of kids accessing porn; I worry about the consequences of kids accessing porn that's abusive and degrading to women.

Even mainstream sites seem too have way too much stuff that's really farking depressing. I don't know if it will turn them into predators, but it certainly might warp their sense of respectfulness and make them assholes to their girlfriends.

So now will parents need to teach their kids to differentiate the healthy porn from the unhealthy?

2012-04-19 07:14:27 AM
I think the only problem with online porn is that it sets unrealistic expectations. First of course is that boys think that they're inadequate if they don't have a 12 inch penis and can't last thirty minutes. The second result is the lack of condom use in the vast majority of porn. Of course the religious nut jobs get sex ed cut in schools, so teens think porn sex is normal, standard sex. So of course the kids try to use the pull out method, when of course the boys are at the age when they have zero control.
And then girls are much more likely to be willing to engage in the type of behavior that they see in porn... wait, I don't have a problem with that. Um... Girls are more likely to experiment and be open with their sexuality... nope still not seeing a problem.

So bottom line: distorted view of reality: bad. Risky Behavior: bad. The solution? Comprehensive education. Children should understand what's going on with their bodies. Knowledge and understanding is never a bad thing.

I'm more curious to see today's kids grow up completely addicted to passive entertainment. They watch tv at home, in the car, waiting in an office on a phone, etc. that has to be shrinking some part of the brain that keeps you sane.
