Oh for fark's sake. Are we going to put every teenager's relationship angst in the news now?

I'm tired of hearing about these people. Unless one of them kills and/or maimes the other, I don't care.

See, all they needed was a little time apart to work things out and here you thought they were finished. By golly, they are going to make this work. I say good luck to the happy couple.

My cousin at 18 married her 38 year-old teacher. As far as I know, Daddy skipped town when she was a baby. I've got about 50 cousins so I have trouble keeping track.

My sister wanted to request "Don't Stand So Close To Me" at the reception. We chickened out.

Apparently he started early, I know the librarian at that high school and she said the girl has had a class and been involved in a club with that tracer every year she was in high school.

One CA legislator tried to make it a felony for a school employee to engage with a students at the same school where the employee worked, even if the student was 18.

Link

Of course the CA Dems. have a problem with that:

Opponents of Olsen's measure contend that banning sex acts and "inappropriate communication" - lewd, lascivious or sexual messages - could violate constitutional rights to free speech and free assembly.

"We have to protect free speech even if we don't like it," said Assemblyman Tom Ammiano, D-San Francisco, who chaired the committee.

AB 1861 would have made it a felony for a teacher or any school employee to have sex or engage in lewd communication with a student - regardless of age - in elementary, middle or high schools.

Because state law already bans adults from having sex with or attempting to seduce minors, the key impact of AB 1861 would have been to crack down on affairs between teachers and 18-year-olds.

Besides incarceration, Olsen's measure called for offenders to be stripped of their right to a public pension.

Valerie Small Navarro of the American Civil Liberties Union said the ban on sexual messages was overly broad and could chill discussion of "The Great Gatsby," "The Color Purple" or other novels.

Olsen countered that she would be willing to amend AB 1861 to address curriculum concerns.

Assemblywoman Holly Mitchell, D-Los Angeles, said she opposed singling out one group of public employees, school workers, for potential loss of pension rights.

"My concern here is that this could begin a ripple effect," she said

Because we certainly don't want to cut down on lewd and lascivious communications between school employees and students in their collective care, nor do we want to single out a group of public employees that either have sex and/or engage in lewd and lascivious communications with students.

I really hate my state some times. :-(

I personally won't even care then.

It's perfect fodder for Fark, sure, because it's not news.... but news organizations seem to think it's news for some dumb reason. A girl with shiatty parents starts banging and falls in love with a surrogate father figure. OMG, shock of the century! That shiat happens so much it's cliche...

Hell, IMHO a committed relationship like that is better than her turning to stripping, the other shiatty parents cliche.

Put some teeth in the law; the law was designed to criminalize those in a position of power, control, and custody from engaging in an inappropriate relationship with students who are enrolled in the school. If you can't wait 6 months until after graduation before trying to bed the 18 y/o then I think you get what is coming to you.

I think a huge issue would be how this is deciphered. This is a big farking penalty. Already if someone farks a student they are done, do you want to open the door for someone being convicted of a penalty because of what was deciphered by a student as a sexual message? Or a crazy ass parent? What is a sexual message? A look? A touch on the shoulder? A raised eyebrow?

I'm a teacher, and I'm terrified to even be near any student of any age. I'm all for stringing up molestors, but from what I know so far about this law, it seems like it is a little too open to interpretation.

So instead let's draft and pass laws that will be challenged in courts and will cost thousands upon thousands of taxpayer dollars to defend (and which will ultimately be struck down). Who cares if they don't pass constitutional muster? It's about the principle!
